The lights that are usually on were not on the night of the murder. The outside lamp post...the lamp in the sunroom.

The flashlight played a big part in the murder. The murder weapon? It was used to write the ransom letter. The pen was in the telephone cubby and next to that the pad in the hallway. Makes sense that she grab the flashlight from the drawer of the wet bar that is in the hallway.

yea,and then Smit's version was that perhaps Mr Intruder hit JB with the flashlight.But....then how did it end up on the counter...did he not need it to see to get out,and so went back and left it there?? @@
