I actually think KC would have been better off with a public defender rather than Baez. Public defenders get lots and lots of experience. I do agree the taxpayers of Florida should not have to pay for Andrea Lyon's expert service though. KC should at least find a death penalty lawyer from Florida to represent her, like Terry Lenamon, or rather someone in Orange County. It's a big county, right? She can't be the only person there that has needed to defend herself against the death penalty.

I agree.
I am a Florida Taxpayer, This is a State of Florida case.
If Casey wants the State to pay for her Defense then IMO her Defense Team members should be lawyers from Florida. There ARE DP qualified lawyers in Florida...chose one.
Experts, I will agree can be obtained from around the country if equally qualified ones can not be found in Florida.
I don't want to see my Florida business taxes going to pay for out of State Attorneys

I don't get Baez's assertion that costs have gone up due to the death penalty either. The one additional cost I can think of is hiring a DP attorney; she's working pro-bono. They could have gotten someone from FL so flying would not have been an issue. Baez could have handed the case to someone from FL, correct? So there needn't have been two of them. Does this mean that if she had been up against LWOP instead of DP they would not have defended her as hard?

When you take on a case I assume one of the very first things you do is sit down and try to estimate a budget. If you are a man who drives around expensive cars rather than pay child support...perhaps the idea of prioritizing money does not occur to you.
We know the photos were sold in the early months of this case. In fact , clown of the month at that time, Mr. Cabott, did say that Baez had brokered a deal for licensing fees for Casey to sell some photos. She was well with in her rights to do so at the time, as her parents have been all along. This fact did come as great concern to the prosecutors, for the idea that it may be the tip of the iceberg. What would be wholly inappropriate legally would be if there were an ongoing media deal that extended to Mr. Baez. The court needed to be assured that all of the defense team's actions were in her best interest and with her knowledge and permission. I will find the hearing for you and post it to remind us.

Whatever fascination the public may have had to see photos of this little doll, sweet, beautiful Caylee could never, would never have sustained and funded a million dollar defense for a protracted legal battle that would easily go on for years. One does not require the critical thinking of our engineers to come to that realization. THOSE OF YOU THAT SAY ...THIS WAS EASY TO FORESEE ARE ABSOLUTELY CORRECT. SO WHY DID IT TAKE A OVER A YEAR AND HALF TO CLAIM?

I'LL TELL YOU WHY.
HUBRIS.
MR. BAEZ IS NOW INTRODUCED ON NATIONAL TALK SHOWS AS HIGH PROFILE DEFENSE ATTORNEY JOSE BAEZ. He has been invited, and by invited..I mean he has been flown , first class to visit in a five star hotel and driven in a limo , to be interviewed by Geraldo to opine on other cases that are in the news. One cannot buy that kind of advertising. Our member, the well respected attorney Richard Hornsby informed us that he has been utterly shocked by some of the potential client calls he has received from someone who tells him they first had tried to hire Baez, only to be quoted an astronomical fee that Mr. Hornsby would have quoted at a far, far less amount. You can bet all the money in your pockets that Mr. Baez did not quote those high fees before this case.

Yes, Mr. Baez ( though we see him in a different light here ) has gotten a lot of mileage out of this case. One could not buy the kind of national and international attention this case has gotten for him. We are studying the case and reading the motions, watching every hearing, etc...we know what kind of lawyer he is. Your average American sitting in their kitchen watching him speak on a talk show for two minutes speaking of justice, the constitutional rights of every American and in generalities may see him as competent. I liken it to a young girl idolizing a starlet on her favorite show...for those thirty minutes the girl is gorgeous, funny, confident and sweet and your daughter wants to be just like her. What the producers and other actors on the show may know is she is very troubled, has a drug habit, is belimic and only God knows what else. It takes crews to pull her together enough to get her quick lines out, and in between them she is a mess on the set. Despite all that...her posters and t shirts are selling like wildfire at the local Target...all the kids know is what THEY ARE SHOWN.
It is because of that ...I try to find every single hearing and document contradictory word he has ever spoke and post it so that folks that may be reading here can see what we all know.

The exposure one gets out of being on a high profile case...makes careers. Absolutely. It is, in my opinion, why the experts lined up to come on to the case. We learned that Dr. Lee, for example, was pro bono on this case.

Yes...folks the clock has struck midnight!!!!!

BRAVO TO THE PROSECUTION FOR BEING PROACTIVE. THIS CASE IS IN GOOD HANDS. HAVE FAITH MY FRIENDS.
If Casey's attorney, Jose Baez, is managing her assets, it could constitute a conflict of interest, according to the state. In their motion, prosecutors wrote, "The Defendant's seeming conversion from pauper to princess did not come from the sale of some tangible asset available to her prior to her initial arrest on charges related to this case."
Prosecutors say they're also concerned Baez could make decisions motivated by movie or book deals and might not be acting in Casey's best interests.
In addition, they say Casey could come back later and request a new trial based on Baez's handling of her affairs. I'll say!!! This hearing was from last March....and as we sit here today...still not one deposition has been taken of the LE team, or evidence looked at. Instead the defense took time and money to depose everyone at the jail that was with Casey on the day the remains were discovered. That is one of a thousand silly examples.

Baez again blames someone else for KC's actions...Now it's the states fault because they are seeking the DP! Would the costs of this trial go down substantially if the state didn't seek a DP conviction? Did he not know this a year ago? Can they not sell anymore vids or photos? Have the media finally said enough, due to the actions of the grandparents, too many lies spread to sell their side, the media may want to distance themselves from the blame game of hell...:furious:

Blame, blame, blame, deny, deny, deny for the defense is at a loss on HOW to defend her. The go from the nanny did it, the soddit, ugly copeing, mental defect (tho' only for a moment) implicate any and all as long as it makes KC look like mommy of the year...Yuck..:innocent: They haven't met one of their deadlines yet but want the state to be santioned because he had no money to pu the documents. KC"s defense team is in a shambles, she may be better off with a public defender, DP qualified can be sought!

I am DISGUSTED that she can legally fund her defense by selling pictures of the daughter SHE murdered. It sickens me all the way to the bottom of my soul. :banghead: :furious: :banghead:

Oh my gosh this is c~r~a~z~y!!!!

I have always wondered who sold the NE that cropped photo of Casey with Caylee wearing that "Big Trouble" shirt. Whoever it was KNEW it would be worth a lot of money. Didn't Cindy, Lee and George say they had never seen that photo? Yet Lee KNEW it had been cropped??? Why would the person who sold that picture crop it in the first place or was it the NE that did that?

I think whoever sold that picture is key and they knew that Caylee was wearing that when she died.

Shame shame shame!

Respecfully, Kimmer, you must be able to afford to say this because you don't live in Florida. Am I right? I say, as a Florida resident, she should now be required to accept one of our state's public defenders. She is not special. It will rip a new one in my heart if I have to fund JB and AL's expenses!!! I'm not being dramatic when I say there are a million other charities to which I would rather contribute!!!!! :furious:

Yeah because they are a bunch of :clown::clown::clown:

I don't blame ya, I'd be :furious: too if I lived in Florida.

They already have blood on their hands just for selling those pictures of Caylee. Who in their right mind wants to make money off of a poor dead child?? Jeez!

MOO

I am so ticked!!!
Baez and Lion have done much of nothing but file appeals and make up stories and now that the real lawyer stuff needs to be done they say KC is out of money....Well Baez knew she had no money in the beginning so why did he take the case?

As a taxpayer here it just stinks! We all know how expenses goes. Look at Lion's $22,000 so far in just expenses...for what???

And she says she is doing this case pro bono. If she is why did she accept all of that money? And ole Baez has made $90 thousand so far. I'd say he hasn't done bad for doing nothing. I guess no one else got paid. They should be ashamed taking that money knowing where it came from. That is pretty good...murder your baby and then use her to pay your defense for murdering her. What a bunch of lowlifes.

The defense has been fighting an uphill battle for this entire case. They have to know there really is no plausible working angle to defend her. They had a chance to plea, before Caylee was found, and Baez blew it. ( he liked the spotlight ) Now, with the death penalty in place, and all evidence released and yet to be released...they squirm around a bit on this chessboard and decide to "stick it " back to the state. 'Make them squirm', make them queasy with the tax payers crying foul.....and FORCE them to enter another plea deal. It's coming..... MOO

What happens to a defense team’s motion asking the state to pick up costs for Casey Anthony’s case?

“This judge will not deny this motion,” WFTV-Channel 9 analyst Bill Sheaffer predicted.

The notion that taxpayers would have to help pay for Anthony’s defense might outrage some readers. But Sheaffer predicted the change would speed up the case because the state would have more control. Anthony is charged with first-degree murder in the death of her daughter, Caylee.
http://blogs.orlandosentinel.com/en...indigent-for-costs-wftv-analyst-predicts.html

Seems this will turn out to be a good move. The state will have more control and to me, that means, if Baez stays on, there will be less nonsense being pulled and this trial will go along quickly...he will not be able to postpone with nonsense motions and such..
JMHO

I, for one, would much rather see that money go to JB and AL for KC's defense (or non-defense, however you want to look at it) than lining CA and GA's pockets.

Don't anyone jump on me here....but I actually feel sorry for the poor baby killer...she has NO ONE....not even a preacher standing by her for her soul...no one...Her attorneys are dumb and certainly not getting rich at what they hoped would be a big newsworthy crime (NOT..anymore)...her parents are crazy...she hasn't a friend in the world....should someone help redeem her? Or does she just get lost in the Florida prison system? End this despicable travesty now....someone looking out for her soul should counsel her to confess...NOW...so she can start some sort of redemptive life, acknowledging what she has done..."confession is good for the soul." Maybe she can have some sort of purposeful behind bars...its been done before..

Just wanted to let you know Pattymarie that I am not jumping on you and I respect your opinion.
I just wish to point out that Casey has/had a Minister visit her in jail and if she wanted to she could ask the same one to come again or ask for another.
I don't think all her attorney's are dumb. :innocent:
I don't think her parents are crazy either.
Casey is not alone, she does have family and If Casey truly wanted to see them she would allow them to visit her...they do not have to talk about the case at all..just Hi, I love you..etc...I don't begrudge the family visits with her.
I agree in regards to being friendless, most if not all of her previous friends are not longer her friends but she is the only one to blame here. She was no friend to any of them.
I agree, confession is good for the soul, yet we don't know if she has confessed to her lawyers or to a Minister.
Ultimately Casey is in control of what she confesses to.

Is that why LP entered the picture and bailed KC out, so that she get the pictures from home and deliver them to JB in her huge backpack? I think the only "daisy chain" in this case is between JB, GR and LP.

the motion was filed on Friday afternoon. We have all been speculating on what the 'new' information/materials might be. Many of us were talking about how 'quiet' the defense has been for the last week or two. Well, now we know why. The defense can now ask the state of Florida for money to 'investigate' this new info - very interesting.

Also - I can hear JB right now talking about how the indignation, anger, frustration, etc. from the news of his motion has, once again, prejudiced the potential jury pool here in Central Florida against his client - yet another reason for change of venue!

So if Judge Strickland o.k.'s this..Would there be a cap on how much they pay for experts? and does the state pick up the traveling expenses etc?.

This is so wrong..The Protesters that were in front of the Anthony's should reunite with hundreds of other floridans taxpayers and say "Enough is Enough." People need to make a stand...:furious:

Will we be able to see the lists of what the defense can do an not do if the state pays for this???? like going into court an just blah blah blah...

and using Blood Money should be against the LAW>>>:banghead:

Now to be fair to her. Pro Bono simply means that she is providing her personal services free of charge. Sh she is not drawing any personal payments. There are however operational costs involved with depositions expert witnesses, filings etc. Court reporters need to be hired and paid, lab tests need to be paid for, document copies need to be paid for etc. A pro bono attorney does not pay this out of their pocket.

I would like to know how this will work out. If Casey is found indigent and FL tax payers have to pay for her defense then would it not be fair to give her court appointed attorney's? It would only be fair to give her the same treatment as any other inmate right? Anyone know? TIA

I also thought that this was a way of AL, LKB, and the others to pull out of the case without questions being asked. Maybe they want out knowing that they are going to lose this case?
