I could be wrong, but I don't think they can get a non-profit corporation. Her brother Rick said they have filed bankruptcy in the past, and that disqualifies you from filing for a non-profit in most states.
Do we know how many years ago that was?

And WTH happened to the donation thread? Please...someone?

As I recall, the bankruptcy was pretty recent--this year? Anyone else recall? I'm thinking April or May? Not sure tho, I just know it was filed.

GA has recent judgements filed, according to the Orange County Clerk's office online but he isn't on the papers so his financial record wouldn't matter.

Is he the sole bankruptcy filer--anyone know? I mean, did CA file too? Or just GA? Might make a difference in whether or not she can start a foundation.

Aha! That might be why it was rejected. So she can own the name but not the business?

I get so confuzzled.

Actually the name can't be approved officially until the corporation is approved. That only shows the name is not already taken. They most likely did not file a charter with the application and I noticed it did not show the fees paid either.

I should file a charter and take the name first thing Monday. ROFL!!

Nope the fee's were paid $60.00 worth.

$10.00 Cert of Status

$50.00 processing fee

A poster on another blog suggested that CA is doing this to prevent ZG from getting any money from her lawsuit.

I gotta say, I saw it too. She paid the $60.

This filing is so bizarre, what with the business entity being rejected, I wonder if she had her attorney help with the filing or just did it herself.
Guess we'll never know unless an attorney draws up the paperwork and it's shown online.

I'd disagree with that because the suit is against their homeowner's policy and them, and they can't put the house in the Foundation. Esp not since they've been served with notice of the lawsuit, they can't try to dump assets into a foundation.

On the first link on this thread, the handwritten application. Look to the right under the bolded letters FILED OCTOBER 14, SECRETARY OF STATE and you will see $60.00. Underneath the application it tells you $50.00 processing fee and she checked the $10.00 Cert of Status box which totals $60.00

I wonder if CA was more concerned with someone else taking the name so she filed?

When late hubby and I did estate planning, our attorney set up trusts. He didn't mention family foundations.
