it was mentioned upthread there was also a slight wind. How do professional snipers deal with wind....training, experience?
There are formulas based on wind speed that give you an estimate of what it’s going to do to the bullet. I remember being taught that in the Marines during basic training, but I can’t recall it now.

They look for visual cues (which way a flag is blowing, trees, etc).

It kind of becomes intuitive over time.

This was not a long shot, so the wind wouldn’t have had a great effect. These calculations are more important for much longer distances.

I was shocked to hear Charlie was shot and killed. My thoughts are with his sweet wife and kids. Such a tragic loss.

Whoever the shooter is, seems to have taken a page from the same book as Matthew Crooks.
I just wish campus LE and CK's security detail had taken that same page from the PA script and studied it as well.

All the surrounding rooftops there should have been visually scanned and cleared.

Someone will recognize him from the cams. Look what happens to people who are briefly filmed swiping base balls and souvenir caps from kids.

I would hope too that he is recognized by somebody, somewhere, and turned in.

However, IMO it’s not really equivalent to the type of people who cruelly grab away baseballs and caps from kids in the stands.

Those people are standing in a stadium surrounded by 50,000 to 80,000 other people, with their faces exposed and in full view of the cameras. They appear to act impulsively.

Whereas it seems to me that this gunman, 200 feet away and up on a roof, acted in a well-planned manner, hidden away, and with expertise. Not a spontaneous act in front of the world.

For all we know he may have been masked or otherwise had his face obscured.

I’d love it if the investigators could find any DNA from when he was perched on the roof, but he seems too well-prepared. Hopefully he may be found through a license-plate reader or at least images of his car on video.

IMO

This is an excellent question , Whitelilac,

Also: Apologizing if it was already mentioned upthread:

What is the absolute shortest amount of time a practiced person can dis-assemble the rifle, fold the tripod, collect the casings, etc. and just walk away,..... with a small duffle bag?

Just a minute or two?

Why? Assassination or attempted with gun?
Positioning.
Rifle shot from the rooftop of a nearby building.
Same as the PA attempt.

I wonder if the shooter could hear from that far away. Depending on the audio setup they had going on at the event, it is awfully coincidental the topic being discussed at the time the shot was fired.

Also..after the release of the POI, is it no longer the belief of LE that the shooter acted alone? How would they know something so soon, without executing search warrants and conducting interviews? Seems to be a quick and possibly incorrect assumption.

I've been misinterpreted, i wasn't comparing murder to snatching of a kids ball or cap. I was saying, simply, if there are films don't underestimate how well the public will expose all they can.

Yes, I agree with you. My point was not the equivalence of souvenir stealing to murder. My point was that the gunman would not be on camera in front of thousands and so won’t be as easily identified.

Maybe? This one seems a lot more well planned and carried out. Time will tell I guess.

Please DO NOT DISCUSS THE POLITICS OF KIRK. That only gets everyone upset and arguing.
DISCUSS THE SHOOTING AND THE EVIDENCE. Either the evidence of the shooting or the evidence of the shooter.
I don't know how much clearer I can be.
We might close this thread down for the night.

That sounds like a threat. People assuming a motive are getting ahead of themselves when we have no idea yet. Some may have egg on their face if it's not what they think.
If it looks like a duck, walks like a duck, and quacks like a duck.....

This is going to end up being exactly what it looks like.

A political assassination.

Or are you talking about motive? Which we don’t really know for sure in either case.
Certainly premature for this shooting.
Huh? What in my post that you are responding too, warrants “premature for this shooting’? I said nothing about a motive.

He’s not my idea of a high value target.

Unfortunately, he was to somebody.

I hadn’t heard of CK until today, but now I understand that he was apparently a prime mover in his world.

For me this is one of those “Today I Learned” things that I hear are on Reddit or someplace.

I’m a wait and see kinda gal. You said “taken a page out of another shooter’s book” effectively. Whatever you meant, and it wasn’t clear to me anyway, it seems a bit early to say he’s anything like the PA shooter or that the shootings have much in common. I’ll wait and see what comes out.

This. If the casing isn't found, that'll be a tell. IMO
IMO if the shooter used a bolt action rifle, the casing wouldn't be ejected without further manipulation/cycling the bolt.
