Chicago Police Kill 2 During Domestic Disturbance Call

  • #141
I am just talking about her statements to the press and the way she is throwing the father under the bus. Her claiming her son was not violent when the husband obviously was afraid that he was. And her telling her son to stop taking his meds, without any kind of tapering off with medical help. And calling out the husband for not being by her side but being at an attorneys office instead. She seems kind of confrontational with the husband.

Stages of grief:
Shock and Denial
Pain and Guilt
Anger

"Dorsey said an aluminum bat could cause injury but "is not a deadly force."

nonsense.

They stopped allowing aluminum bats in our little league because of the deaths and severe injuries when kids were accidentally hit by them.

My friend. If 1 cop was there then cool. But when several alpha males are standing around but resort to gun usage with a lady in harms way; Tells us that these guys were too quick to shoot. Jmo.

Btw. Cops never know the full extent of a 911 call or the situation.

I just wish the dad had told the cops that his neighbor will open the door for them. Because they probably thought she was this kid's break in accomplice and just started firing before truly realizing that this was a domestic dispute with father and son. Jmo

How many cops were on scene? How many were out of their cars? What distances were they from the man shot? How far from the man was the officer that shot him?

Why would they think the woman was his break-in partner while responding to a domestic call? Did they even know the woman was there?

So when charging at you with a bat the person has to swing it before you consider it a threat? What about a knife, if I just have a knife in my hand and I charge at you do I only become a deadly threat if I start to make stabbing motions? You honestly think police should be required to tackle and roll around with people that advance on them while armed?

RBBM

When accompanied by multiple officers dealing with someone armed with a bat? Yes. There was zero reason to use deadly force in this situation. What are we training LEO to do anymore? What happened to de-escalation? The prevalence of shoot first fill out a false statement later is frightening. JMO.

There are millions of mentally ill people in the world. PEACE officers should be trained to handle a situation like this. Maybe they should be trained to assume all armed persons acting erratically are mentally ill. Maybe that would save some lives and get people actual help. Again. JMO.

Agree. Forget the bus. She was throwing him under a 12 car train in the media. Plus who listens to their kids friends when it comes to medication. They are not doctors.

I've been asking these same questions my friend. I will now wait for Tillicum to reply.

She was not in her grief stages when she advised her son to stop taking his meds, cold turkey.

She said he started the medication at Thanksgiving, so it's only been a month. He probably didn't even have an accurate diagnosis yet.

JMO

Beginning to wonder if Quintonio was an easy set up. Would like to know the history of that bat - how long has it been in dad's apartment. Why was it there?

I'm sure she thought she was doing the right thing by her son. I see no need to go after her when she is dealing with a loss.

Everything I've read about Quintonio portrays him as an athlete involved in a few different sports, so it doesn't seem odd to me they would have a baseball bat in the house.

And:
LeGrier was close to both his parents and talked with his mother every day, college friends recalled.

Let's remember. This is Chicago. Jmo. That bat is probably considered dad's only protection under the law. So I don't think it was to protect him from son. Or he would have had the bat with him. Jmo

I think it's a pretty common item to have in a home.

We don't even know what meds he was taking or what they were for. If it was something like xanax prn there would be no problem to not take them. Maybe she gave him bad advice, but still I don't see how mom's bad advice equals justification for police officers to shoot and kill two people.

I disagree with the bolded above. It does not matter how many others are nearby if someone swings a bat at your head. You can be severely injured in a split second, no matter how many are there as a back up.

I don't know how close the teen was at the time he was shot but I disagree that it was impossible for him to be a threat.

De-escalation is the main goal but it does not always work. Didn't the father also try to diffuse the situation? If the teen had mental issues and had gone off his meds, it might not have been possible for someone to reason with him at that time.

Cops are not psych techs. Yet people expect them to be so, after the fact. And there is no solid and reliable training to rely upon for cops in the streets. NOTHING is going to suddenly make an agitated, angry, ill suspect suddenly trust a cop in a uniform. JMO

The cops ADMITTED the shooting of the woman was a mistake. No one says that was justified.

As for the kid with the baseball bat, whose father was frightened enough to call for help, that remains to be seen.

Kind of shifts the focus off the real culprit. IMO

We have zero reports stating that the officers even tried to de-escalate. Are we to expect that in a situation with a person who suffers from mental illness, LEO is going to shoot first, no questions asked? Because they... aren't trained? Then maybe we should train them. Mental illness is prevalent, shooting mentally ill people because we don't know how to handle them is not the answer, sorry. Medication and suddenly stopping medication screws up your brain chemistry. It doesn't mean someone deserves to die because of it. JMO.

Maybe son blamed dad for him being in foster care for years?

A kid can consider you a stranger after being raised in other people's home. Jmo.

The kid was hurting. And even if the foster parents are billionaires. A kid will always cry for mom and dad. Even if the parents are not stable. Jmo.

Maybe he felt that dad should have stayed with him and not go to a Christmas gathering. Idk.
