Seems they are most often used to stop a person that is resisting vs attacking. Big difference.

If they refused to get out of their car they may get tased, if they refused to drop a weapon then they may get shot.

I wonder if they even had time to request that Q.L. drop his bat.

LeGrier had a run-in with a campus police officer earlier this year in DeKalb, according to Cooksey and Lauryn White, a friend of LeGrier’s from college.

In March, the Northern Star student newspaper reported the NIU police charged him with “obstructing a peace officer” in DeKalb. Cooksey said she thought the case had been dropped.

Campus police said they could not access records from the case Saturday.

White said Quintonio’s arrest in DeKalb earlier this year was “a misunderstanding” with an officer.

We also have the father's word that QL was violent and scary enough to warrant a call to the police.

If there wasn't a problem the police shouldn't have been called.

I think he wanted help (well being check) but I doubt he thought it would end in death for his son.

Same with the bat. He had it but maybe had no intention of using it as a weapon.

Dad said he was using it to try to get to him behind a locked bedroom door, IIRC.

IMO he should have realized that it was a possibility. With all of the news coverage it is hard to imagine how he would NOT realize it.

Perhaps he was so scared he was willing to take the risk.

Yes but that might mean he used it in an effort to intimidate or cause fear or express anger. No proof he would have actually hit anyone with it.

It appears the officer was so concerned with saving himself he didn't even consider who he might hurt. Did he think for a second about saving Jones from QL if QL was armed and dangerous, or was it I have to save myself and if a bystander has to die, so be it?

In times of stress people don't always think clearly. I think it's ingrained for people to trust in LE.

Exactly. And if he tried to intimidate or terrorize a cop he would get shot.

Same thing would apply to most citizens, folks aren't going to wait until they get their head bashed in before deciding if the threat is real.

This happened on a holiday weekend and the mayor is in Cuba so IMO it's going to be awhile before we hear anything.

But why not release QL's 911 call?

True but again we only have the word of LE on the scene who are already dealing with an accidental shooting from the event.
Was he brave (or stupid enough) to try to scare a cop....I doubt it,but his father might be another matter.

That seems to be the problem. People and LE are so set against non lethal options.
And we only have their word that QL ran at them.

Why do you think that LE might have reservations about using non-lethal options when a confrontational suspect has a dangerous weapon in his hands?

Tranquilizer guns. Good idea. Something fast acting and non lethal.

Agree. It may help. But blank bullets should work better. Especially if a perp thinks that they have actually been shot up with real ones.

The cops don't need real bullets most of the time. Especially since blanks can cause a better effect than a tazer. Jmo.

Every cop should have 2 blanks followed behind the lethal real bullets.

But it truly wont help the cop that is firing 16 shots. Jmo

If you locked yourself in your room because you were afraid of someone, and they began hitting the door with a metal bat to try and get to you, would be thinking they were going to harm you? I sure would.

The woman was shot while opening her door so probably she was in her doorway.There were reports of blood in the entry to the apartment.
I did see some rumblings about shell casing being found near a curb so possibly the shooter or one of the shooters was by a curb.

A relative of the teen said it appears LeGrier came to the front door as officers from the Harrison District pulled up. Jones' relatives believe she was behind LeGrier, near the entrance to her apartment.

Maybe that was the intention. To cause fear.
And I think the automatic response for some would be to call police when in need.
Son and father did call the police for what I assume would be to get help.

He had a bat and the officer was afraid and now two innocent people are dead. Just because you have a gun doesn't mean you have to use it. I can't believe anyone thinks this is okay.

IM SURE THESE OFFICERS SHOULDN'T HAVE PASS THE SHOOT OUT RANGE class. Jmo.

Because that is the worst shooting ever.

Because no innocent bystander should get shot by cops when a perp is right there while a woman is running for her life.


I just hope her 5 kids get the F out of Chicago once they are paid. Jmo.
