But there's no indication he was ever seen hanging around the playgrounds, picnic areas, etc. where he could watch kids. He was seen on hiking trails.

Every indication is the murders happened on a trail where there was no one else around.

If he really thought he could kill both parents and snatch a child, and run through the woods to his car with her, he was seriosly deluded.

Sadly, the child snatching stories are very familiar: a car drives along a road in an urban/suburban area, draws alongside a child alone on a sidewalk or playground, door opens, child pulled inside, car drives off.

maybe he's just part of the bold and stupid murderer club.

Yes, that is something parents need to be aware of. When I had kids, my older sister warned me about coaches who try to get too close to the family - they can groom the whole family into trusting them and will even take years to develop that trust. And then the have access to the kids to abuse.

I know that sounds paranoid, but we kept close to the kids' practices, travel, etc. and my husband volunteered to coach or assist. And we didn't extend the relationships into friendships but merely coach/parent/athlete.

Be careful out there, parents.

I will be interested to hear the details of how law enforcement closed in on this guy. Good job, LEO!
D N A :)

Police released a composite sketch and photo of a person of interest they were searching for in the attack. Along with the drawing, state police released a statement saying the suspect “likely sustained an injury while attacking the couple.” It did not go into further detail.

In my opinion someone quickly pointed at him. I think they did a trash grab and a rapid DNA test against evidence found at the scene. Then made the arrest. Kudos to the investigative team!!!

They did talk about video playing a big part in this. My guess is they did this through the car first.

Thank you for posting this. Assuming this is a picture of "Drew" (the constantly changing name isn't AT ALL suspicious /sarc) he does appear to have fairly wide hips. But that might just be my own confirmation bias talking.

Would his dna have been on file?

Yep, that's how they pointed him out.

Unlikely (can’t be a teacher with a felony), but if they had DNA at the scene and a name to work with, it might as well have.

Then it’s just a matter of obtaining a sample to compare to the crime scene DNA.

They were positive they had the right guy, so it wouldn’t surprise me if DNA played a role at some point.

I was just thinking about this. If he had a criminal record, I don't think he could be hired as a teacher. (Irony that he WAS hired as a teacher.)

Do schools ask for fingerprints?

Trying to share the entire photo. This shows a good idea of his shoulders and frame.

Edited to add, click on the photo to see his face also. Hair seems darker here in this photo and he has some facial hair.

I'm not all that surprised the perp has a "normal" career and education. We've seen this time and time again in serial murderers. Psychopaths are able to compartmentalize very well. Ted Bundy, Paul Bernardo, Dennis Rader, Herb Baumister, Rex Heurmann, Bruce McArthur, John Wayne Gacy, just to name a few. All of them appeared to have "normal" lives, their true depravity only known to very few people, if at all.
Yes, however none of them dressed weirdly and made themselves conspicious while lurking around before committing their crimes. Of course, that made them more dangerous.

The school is Bayyari Elementary.
Thanks. And Bayyari is part of the Springdale system, not the Prairie Grove system. So different school districts for the arrested (as a teacher) and the victims (as elementary school aged students).

I just looked it up and it’s standard practice in the states he worked in.

Yes anyone working in schools needs a fingerprint clearance card from their state.
*my opinion (and experience).

I saw one by putting his name and Bayyari in FB search. It shows a full-length photo. I see it clearly in that photo.

Thank you, I've just seen it. He does have quite wide hips and narrow shoulders. I can see why we made the mistake; he's a man, but not a particularly masculine-looking man.

Wonder if the police sketch
Purposely downsized his most notable/prominent feature
His ears
So as to not let this teacher know they had him in their sights

As I said, once they ID'd him - they likely did a trash grab. Then performed a Rapid DNA test and compared it to the DNA from the crime scene.

so show me where the good trails are at

Whereupon all my elementary teachers would have snapped, "BEHIND THE 'AT'"
