Snipped for focusI do feel strongly about the image being a female of middle age, maybe a bit older than the wife, but not older than mid 40s.
This was my gut reaction, too.

And the witness mentioned facial stubble.
Exactly! I think this could also be the behavior of a middle aged female trying to look like a man, and also like an experience hiker, but no actual experience. I feel a male would never have worried about name brands, this seems to me almost too planned....too thought out...definitely not random....this person had inside information that the family was going to be hiking on that day, on that trail...because they prepared for it..IMO...Also, a woman in disguise would explain why the wife went back...she recognized the person....I would look to someone close to the family, something was going on that will more than likely come out in the upcoming weeks...again these are all scenarios running through my mind, but I do feel strongly about the image being a female of middle age, maybe a bit older than the wife, but not older than mid 40s...just judging by the shape of the image anyway..And I like that you point out that the clothing is appropriate for Maine in Autumn months , but not Arkansas in July, as I think a man would have paid more attention to weather, while a woman would have been more focused on "looking the part"
Hi I wanted to say that I understand and respect why someone growing up in NYC would be raised to avoid eye contact so as not to send the wrong signal and invite unwanted attention. Having said that I also hope you can understand and respect that those of us raised in the south, (Texas) I was raised to always maintain eye contact as it shows respect. Because of that I ALWAYS notice someone's eye color, no matter if I spoke to them or just passed them on a hiking trail. This shows a very key concept of how being raised in a big city as opposed to small southern town can bring about very different witnesses in a situation such as this. So, I appreciate that you pointed out why you wouldn't notice eye color, rather than just saying something negative about the witness that did. Very important reasons are behind the differences noticed by witnesses, it usually always has to do with where you were raised....and not so much how...As a total aside
Indulge me
I'm the poster who started the whole "recognize eye color in a passing stranger" tangent
I realized why I don't do the eye contact thing - and never have
I grew up in and around New York City
You are raised to avoid eye contact with strangers
So as to not provoke any monkey business if s/he is a little you know what
(Bolding by me)What other purpose than abduction would that huge bag serve? He wouldn't need a giant bag just to put a change of clothes in or even to carry supplies like knife, rope, tarp.
That is a good point.(Bolding by me)
Unless we're talking about a seriously large, long "knife" or bladed weapon, like, I don't know, a machete? I know it seems a bit far-fetched to think of carrying such an item in an oversized duffel like the one we think is shown in the photo...but it *would* otherwise be awfully hard to hide it if you were wandering around on a trail, wouldn't it? You'd almost need to put it in some kind of enclosure that didn't make it obvious what you were lugging around, and a jumbo-sized bag might seem to fit the bill. Just IMO/speculation.
No I would never come for you, lol, I was just pointing out what I see from the image posted of the person's backside. I was wondering about the witness seeing the person and describing them as male, mid 20s , stubble, etc. I even wondered if we might not be talking about 2 different people...do you or anyone know where the image came from? I missed that information somewhere, I am sure it is posted and I will go back and try to figure it out....but I am only posting my thoughts, and I would never criticize anyone else for their thoughts, we are all just thinking out loud....throwing stuff at the wall and hoping something sticks...A group of four young adults, 2 men and 2 women, passed this person an hour or so before the murders
They put together the sketch we’ve all seen
That group described a young man in his mid to late 20’s with facial stubble, about 5’10” to 6 feet tall with a stocky build
A young man in that group called in to a local YouTuber because he could not get in to talk to anyone on the ASP tip line- and was interviewed late Sunday evening
That local YouTuber has now been on News Nation discussing this case
If it is a woman, based on a photo from the back, than this person fooled four adults who walked passed him on a walking trail.
Just saying, Don’t come for me
IMO
So, I haven't read all of the posts so forgive me if something I say was already mentioned/disproven.
The girls ran to the visitors center. The troopers searching the main trail heard screams from the lower trail ( I presume from one of the victims however this may have been proven a false statement). Troopers found both victims dead on the lower trail.
Going off the assumption that the screams heard by the troopers were from one of the victims, something caused the girls to run back to the visitors center early enough in the incident that troopers arrived in time to hear the screams for help. Either there was an initial attack that caused the girls to flee. Or, it was someone that they knew and/or considered a threat. There seems to be a decent amount of time between when the girls went back to the visitors center , the 911 call was made and troopers heard the screams.
Has it been confirmed that the girls were both victims biological daughters?
Just curious, if you think the person in the photo is a woman, do you think the witnesses saw a different person on the trail?
From my link above with the official LE release of the sketch, AK police also state "(ASP) released a composite sketch of a man...Investigators have asked the public for help identifying the man"...A group of four young adults, 2 men and 2 women, passed this person an hour or so before the murders

The witnesses also noticed the large bags. I am quite convinced the person the witnesses saw (and described as a man with stubble) and the person in the photo are the same person. The sketch even shows the bag at the shoulders.YES!!! Either the witnesses are confusing the suspect or we are, but the image is female...I feel like anyway..
And could be why FBI stepped inI'll bet it was an out of state plate.
It's difficult to remember a specific license # to recall, but it's much easier to recognize an out-of-state plate.
Though it's only one possibility amongst many, @RedHaus might have had the right idea when suggesting the suspect could be a trans man. I don't mean to offend anyone by saying that, in fact I really hope I don't, but it could make sense of a seeming contradiction: a man with stubble who still retains some of their more feminine characteristics.
Either that or a woman made up to look like a man, complete with a false beard. Though you'd think witnesses might have noticed that.
I'm personally struck by how small the suspect's feet appear to be, but that might just be the angle of the picture.
I understand that as well, I just think the person in the image looks like a female...but again that is just my opinion, and in no way means anything...I am just thinking out loud here...The witnesses also noticed the large bags. He may have needed a long bag for (shudder) a long knife.I still kinda think he was there to pick something up that had been left for him in that park. Hence the empty bags.
Who hikes with empty bags?
I have certainly never seen it.
I agree. Thrill kill. Or its a fit of rage is what i suspect. But to me it shows no personal connection, not targeted.
