CO - 3 killed in shootout near/at Planned Parenthood in Colorado Springs, 27 Nov 2015 *Arrest*

Was it reported that he had schizophrenia? I keep seeing it mentioned in this thread but I am not exactly sure why people are talking about schizophrenia with this case. (And yes, it usually shows up in late teens/early adult years.)

I am confused by this post...??
From everything I've read in the media, he had no reported mental illness, though some strange behavior.

Stewart's sister, Temprest Llyod, told CBS affiliate KKTV that Stewart was outside Planned Parenthood making a phone call because he didn't have service in the building. He was shot by the gunman, ran inside and was the person who told everyone to get down, get into rooms and called 911.

bbm He is a hero.

Died while protecting others, that is truly heroic. I hope his family can find some solace in that, while grieving their tragic loss.

I hope so too. That's something they can take and keep in their hearts.

Wow. That is amazing that he even thought to run in and warn others. I'm not sure I would have been of right mind to do that at all. Definitely a hero. Probably saved a lot of lives.

Rest gently, Jennifer and Stewart !!

It's just NOT FAIR . I want this monster who stole them from their loved ones to pay for his crimes. Even if it means he'll die in prison.

He was a Vet. All that training he had previously. It probably was instinctual at that point, imoo.
(And it could have been his personality as well, in addition, of course! :) )
He is a hero!

I am an Army Brat, so I understand the training he had to go through and the military background. IMOO.
He is definitely a HERO!
IMOO.

They have had him since Friday! I think the reason why we have not heard anything about ionformation gleaned from that process is that anyone in the room realized pretty quickly that this is useless at this time.

Visualize drop dead inebriated person, it evident pretty quickly that having a dialog , at this time, is pretty much a waste of time

the only thing , as linked , that has been "reproted" about that undertaking was he was rambling and mubmbling during the attempted (my word) interogation

IMo he will transferred to psyc after he "appears" in court

I am sorry that you're going through this right now, and I'm sure it hits home much more for you (literally, because it's your home) than any of us can understand (aside from actually going through this type of situation)...

I think from my perspective is that the reason Dear's name is mentioned so much is because we are trying to help... by sleuthing, a mass meeting of the minds in one thread so we can figure out WHY this keeps happening, the traits or warning signs we can look for going forward to try to help stop it from happening or see warning signs, so more people don't die.

Also part of it is TOS- victim friendly board, when the suspect or perp is named, we can talk about it, and we try to keep the victims from becoming part of the mess as much as possible out of respect to the deceased and out of respect for those who have wounds so deep they may never recover emotionally.

Our way of helping (IMO, obviously) is to sleuth it out as hard as possible to bring these awful people to justice and try to stop the same thing from happening ever again. So yeah, it does facilitate a situation where the bad guy's name keeps being brought up, but we do that in honor and respect for the victims to try to make the world a better place after all of the horrible things they went through.

So many hugs to you. :(

Maybe there is a separate thread we can start to honor the victims and talk about their accomplishments and celebrate their lives in some way?

It will be interesting to see whether this guy had any direct involvement or contact with anti abortion groups. The "no more baby parts" comment could be the ravings of a mad man, or could indicate it was more directly related to that issue. It's interesting to note that the group behind those videos against Planned Parenthood, Operation Rescue, has been linked to other violent attacks on abortion clinics. The president of that group, Troy Newman, was recently banned from coming to Australia because of concerns that he promotes violence. I hope LE treats this shooting like any other attack motivated by extremism.

great post wonderfully written !

Dude, I try. Practically every post you write is extremely interesting loaded with good info, e.g. raw chicken ruins plumbing and he pulled the lawnmower with his vehicle. Still have such a bizarre picture in my mind of what that would look like.

That wall street journal article you linked yesterday tried to make me subscribe. Any way you can hook us up with a .pdf? I have a problem with having too many news subscriptions online lol... I don't need another. I'll get lost in the internet forever. :)

Hi Everyone,

A couple of reminders.

Please do not discuss pro-abortion or anti-abortion (anti-choice) sides. This topic has nothing to do with the discussion and if we go down that road this thread will melt down faster than an old nuclear reactor in a third world country.

It is obvious this man is unstable. He is mentally ill. However, we are not equipped to diagnose what his problem truly is at this point.

Let's leave it as he is mentally ill/unstable. No need to go any further.

I am not suggesting that all mentally ill people are like this person. I myself take medication for mental illness. Many people do take medication for mental illness.

This is no way reflects on the millions of mentally ill people in the country. We are only focusing on this man and his actions.

You can discuss he is an extremist and what may have prompted him to act this way but do not discuss the abortion debate.

Thank You,
Tricia

Thank you for the hugs.

I understand why the Killer is being sleuthed here on the thread. And that is all good.
My point was that at the time the second name was being released, it seemed to be glossed over on
the thread. I thought where is the compassion, empathy and sympathy? Now that we have a name and a face,
it was difficult for me to understand that condolences were not expressed. All the victims were parents with children.
Even if they weren't parents.. I would feel the same... but they were parents. Those poor children and all their families.
That was my point to that One Particular Post, the fact that posts were written about the Killer, but the victims were glossed over, in my opinion. It was in that One post that my emotions came out.
I have been on WS for several years. I understand the need to expound on the perp, but it seemed to me, rather uncaring not to have RIP or Prayers to the family, SOME acknowledgement, what have you, so forth and so on... That is my opinion. (There were a few posts that did acknowledge the victims, though) I cannot tell people what to post. That is against TOS. But something, anything at that moment, about the victims would have been appreciated, in my opinion. Instead, there is this and that post about the killer.
Anyway, I am moving on from this train of thought and post. The victims have been identified and posts are being made about them as well, not just about the Killer.
Thank you for your thoughtfulness.

IMOO.

The officials stressed that Dear's comments were made amidst a flurry of "rantings" that also included statements about politics and President Barack Obama.

Dear's ex-wife, Pamela Ross, told The Post and Courier that she has only talked with Dear a couple of times since their divorce in 2000. "I know everyone has a lot of questions," she told the paper. "We all do. ... We're living it just as everyone else is."

Law enforcement officials said Dear lived with a woman, who was apparently his girlfriend, in Colorado.

He bought the cheapest property in Hartsel."

Neighbor Zigmond Post said Dear once handed him a pamphlet opposing Obama.
"He didn't talk about them or anything. He just said 'Look them over when you get a chance,'" Post said.
