Good Morning! Carren Corcoran Gummin, HRD expert returns to the stand for continued cross

  • #142
Defense pressing the point that the search was not on video....

Ok, just throwing in my two cents here. This witness has been on the stand for over eight hours now. The jury has got to be exhausted and exasperated. You either believe in the possibility of dogs being capable of detecting human remains, or not. Move on!!

Alright…I would assume there were no visible human remains where Molly alerted because Dylan’s body had been moved. Time to move on.

Now he’s moved to Feb 2014…….

One of the problems I have with HRD dog alerts is that in many cases, like this one, there's no way to scientifically verify if the alert is accurate. JMO

Prosecution calls investigator Lt. Tom Cowing LPCSO.

Cowing took buccal swabs of MR and his brother David Stone who was staying with him at the time. Sent swabs to CBI.

Cowing went to MR house several times , emailed him and left voicemails to advise him of upcoming search on Middle Mountain in June 2013.
MR finally called, said he was on the road and he dropped his cell phone in the sink and it stopped working.

DR shoe, sock and scraps of clothing found. Cowing called MR to tell him items were found. MR didn’t even ask what they were.
Now playing audio of phone call.

  • #151
I couldn’t understand that phone call…did anyone?

Cowing finally reached MR by phone and told him he was asking him and EH to come to Durango and identify items found. Took MR 2 days to return to town. When Cowing showed him he said MR wept.

Cowing now testifying to Carren Corcorran Gummin bringing dog Molly in to do a test on sniffing cars unrelated to this case at the Pepsi Bldg impound.

When MR truck was seized, he got items from it. He had a white cell phone. Cowing recognized it from seeing MR use it many times. MR saw him looking at it and handed to him and said this is the phone I dropped in the sink and by the way it’s working again.

I like how Mark magically found the fishing pole months after numerous search's for it.

  • #157
MR surrendered the missing fishing pole that he said he found behind his washing machine.

Yep. On Cross now Defense says it had been “ obscured” by the ATV.

But didn’t Cowing say that MR told him it was his Samsung phone that was dropped and not working… not a white iPhone?

I didn’t catch that if he did. It was in response to Prosecution asking why did MR say he wasn’t returning your phone calls and I just heard Cowing say he said “ his “ phone.
