Has a LACK/ABSENCE of forensic evidence of a person's presence ever been successfully used in a court case?? Anyone know?

(Edited for clarity)

Dad taking his phone away or spotty cell phone service (which has been confirmed by multiple locals) would explain him not using the phone immediately in the morning.
Does dad have a cell phone? I know some posters have wondered why Dylan didn't use dad's landline if there was no cell reception. But, does anyone know for certain that dad has a landline? Many people don't any more.

If I try to make what we know fit together, I end up here:

- Dad agrees to take Dylan to his friends on his way to run his errands.
- Dylan falls asleep early, forgetting to put his phone on charge
-Dad tries to wake Dylan but he won't get up so goes on to town
- Dylan wakes up, finds Dad gone & is ticked.
- Phone is dead (or maybe no service) so Dylan can't call Dad to see when he will be back or call friends.
- Dylan grabs his bag and sets out on his own expecting to catch a ride
- Dylan gets lost or injured, or Dylan gets hit and driver panics or Dylan catches a ride with the wrong person

Good synopsis! I am trying to separate what dad has SAID happened and what is KNOWN to be true. Not sure at this point what happened from airport pickup to home with dad. We only 'think' Dad agreed to take Dylan in the morning. Is this based on what Dylan "told" his friends?

It'd be very hard.
Absence of evidence is not evidence of absence.

I know the burden to get one of these is pretty high but does it make any sense for LE /FBI to get any wire taps in this case?

I'm thinking unlikely but why keep it to myself.

I am assuming you mean for Dad's phone(s)? Even if he is guilty I think it would be fruitless. He doesn't seem like a very social person and even made the comment that he didn't really have any support but was expecting his brother to arrive soon. I just don't seem him calling someone up and unloading. MOO.

It would look baaad, since Dylan is now missing?

But, if dad had taken the phone from Dylan that night, where is it now? Surely if dad had nothing to do with the disappearance, and he had taken Dylan's phone from him the night before as punishment for something, he would have spoken up and said that he had the phone instead of disposing of it somewhere so it wasn't found. They've searched the house, surely they would have found the phone if it were there. For me, Dylan not having his phone would be even more of a reason to go looking for him as he had no way of contacting anyone if something went wrong. Unless the phone is involved in Dylan's disappearance, I don't think it makes sense for dad to have taken it and not reported to LE that he had it. Why hide things if it will only make you look guilty?

Not jumping down your throat, just using your post as a starting point for my speculation. :)

Ahh, interesting. Perhaps, if cell reception was an issue with Dylan's phone, it would be with dad, too.

Yes, dad has a cell. Dylan's mom and brother were trying to text the dad all day Monday.

Pretty sure dad has both , via an article early on.

this is completely off subject, but i just had to tell 'Ailina that i am originally from Abbeville, LA! Its a small world after all. Now we need to find Dylan in this small world... so sorry for being off subject!

I think Dylan's friends were/are naive and probably couldn't imagine a scenario where the father could have possibly done something nefarious, so they assume he was grabbed while hitch hiking. Especially after the father came to their house looking for Dylan.

As many stories as I have told my daughter, she can never fathom that someone could actually do something so terrible. The innocence of kids I guess.

And thinking about the father going to the friend's house, why drive all the way back into town again looking for him? Why not just make a phone call to see if he is there? How long was he going to stay with friends? Was his dad going to make him come home when he went to check on him? Did dad try calling Dylan's cell phone? If not, why not?

The phone issue just really bugs me. It just does not make sense that there was no use after 8pm. If Dylan had really decided to leave, he would have most likely contacted his friends to let them know he was on the way.

Dad's appointments may have been verified from 7:30-11:30, but what we do not know, and likely never will, was where he was from 8pm-7:30am.

MOO

Oh, that's wild! You have my special affection now! I absolutely love Acadiana!

If Dad took the phone, I don't think LE knows about it, as that is the main reason they are giving for saying he did not run away, i.e not using it. So I don't think it is something LE is holding back.

Lotus, are you able to see what the road shoulders on those routes are like? Will they allow a vehicle to stop and park?

I'm starting back at the airport to retrace the route looking to see about places to stop and park.

I'll take notes and post an update.

There is a reference to Dad's landline in one article - in the context of him not answering home phone or cell IIRC.

A land line would be pretty useless to me though. I honestly could not tell you my mom's, husband's or either of my kids' number. Without my cell I know exactly 1 number, my grandmom's and that is just because she has had the same # for all of my 36 years.

Did Dad get mad and heave the phone out the window on the way home? Maybe Dylan was playing with it and would not talk to his father?

  • #116
Yeah, that really worries me too. So, maybe his dad took his phone away the night before, especially if they were already fighting about Dylan wanting to be with his friends instead of being with dad.

Is it known if dad took off work all week to stay with Dylan?

Per below, we do not know if he is even working at this time:

Mark Redwine worked at United Pipeline Systems in April 2010 when a kitchen fire caused heavy damage to his house.

The person who answered the telephone Tuesday at the company in Bodo Industrial Park said, “I’m not going to give out any information at this time” when asked if Redwine still is employed there.

In the tunnel, sitting on hands and considering gnawing them off....

Good speculation. :). I am "speculating" about everything I can think of while hoping for the best for Dylan.

If there had been anger/ rage the night before (or morning of) and Dylan's phone had been disposed of along with everything else Dylan had (oh gee, he ran away/ was kidnapped), he may have impulsively disposed of phone without thinking that he'd be called on to explain the lack of activity on the phone from 8:00pm on. I see that being an "oops" in strategy.

So your second sentence " surely if dad had nothing to do with......" may be the pivotal point. :(

There has been some very good reporting covering Dylan's story (ie Kevin Torres - no, seriously)

Indeed! :floorlaugh:

(In case you're just tuning in, we have a few folks here who especially look forward to Mr. Torres' broadcasts...wink, wink)

Has anyone officially invited Mr. Torres to join us here at WS? :)

I haven't saw any mentions of an alert. I know they explained early on why there was no AA but that is it.

I'm glad I'm not the only without a theory. I can't make what we know fit any theory so I'm just floundering.

I am floundering too- where are we hanging out? Willy Wonka's???
