Thanks.

That article is written when they were searching the lake with the cadaver dogs. Therefore, not using Search & Rescue dogs.

The line before your quote is also helpful...quoted below...

None of Dylan’s belongings that could carry his scent was available in the first days of the investigation. But the family had articles of the boy’s clothing delivered

And we need to remember that dad said that stuff about the fishing pole and something about he didn't know why they weren't searching the lake sooner...or something

And this was all before LE said Dylan did not run away..

BBM

There is NO SOUCE of "scent items". Never quoted Dan Bender, PIO for La Plata Sheriff's office.

ONLY source is ER and what she said/supposed/surmised, etc.

Mother brought some clothing in. It says right prior to the sentence you quoted about family delivering the clothing, and mother already said she brought clothing in.

She did, I agree. But there is no source there were NONE for the bloodhounds to scent on Nov.19th evening and the daytime of Nov. 20th other than ER and some "unnamed source". NONE.

I know he works out of town often, but do we know what MR does for a profession?

  • #844
It seems to me LE has reported the NIKE shirt as what he was seen last wearing....because that is the last confirmed video/sighting they have. I doubt MR would know what he is wearing so they are going by what was last seen for sure on tape.

The last sighting they have on video is the one of him wearing a black shirt with DC letters on it.
I don't believe there ever was a Nike shirt.

Since detective say he was wearing the same clothes as in the airport, Nike shirt was a mistake.

He said "MAY" have been wearing.

Yes, Sgt Bender is quoted. He says specifically that he just received scent items BROUGHT FROM HOME by Dylan;s mom. So what she surmised/supposed must have been correct, imo. Otherwise the sergeant would not have said that he JUST received the scent items, imo.

------------------------------------------------------------------------
“Absent any clues, we owe it to Dylan to consider all possibilities,” Bender said. “We will continue to do so.”

None of Dylan’s belongings that could carry his scent was available in the first days of the investigation. But the family had articles of the boy’s clothing delivered on the weekend.

“We have the clothes,” Bender said Monday. “We don’t need them here (at the reservoir), but can use them later.”

Truck driver per ER, but even then she backed off and said she didn't know. Odd to me.

He said "MAY" have been wearing.

Well, there is no video of him after he went missing, is there? He could be wearing completely different clothing now. Assuming he is out somewhere walking around.

BBM: THAT is not a quote from DAN. IMO. It's the same source ... ER.

What they say is that he was last seen wearing.... That would be what he wore the night before because nobody who saw what he wore on Monday is admitting to seeing him. MOO

  • #851
I don't think this means they had no clothes.

Looking at this site: http://www.jimmyryce.org/ScentCollection.html there are actually a lot of rules about how clothing for missing persons must be handled. Even though Bloodhounds can pick up the scent of one person among a lot of different scents once they are on the trail, that doesn't apply when giving them clothing the first time:

So if MR had even touched the clothes (say to bring them to the police, or just by moving them around to see if there was a clue as to where Dylan went), they would have been contaminated and bloodhounds couldn't use them.

(Edit: and of course if the police think that he was abducted from MR's home, they may not have been able to use the clothing either.)

Would it also make a difference if he slept on a couch others had sat or slept on, or if he used a blanket that had been used by someone else? tia

SGT BENDER says as much in the article linked. He , himself, says we now have the clothes, but don't need them at the reservoir, but will use them later.

I've been working on one of my outlines, and was considering posting it here. As usual, it's a long thing, and I don't want to waste the space here unless people are interested. Does anyone want it posted? TIA

I have the same problem with my husband and around everyone else he is perfectly fine. He gets very controlling and manipulative and just plain ole mean with me. It is very stressful.

Sorry to continue the OT, but maybe we need to start a support group for those of us whose hubbys do this. It's something you can't explain to others who only see the wonderful side of husbands like this because most people won't believe it. To them we look like whiners.

Hmmm, Parking Lot or Jury Room, where do we belong????

The article doesn't have the clothes mom had brought in sentence in quotes, so I'm not sure if quoting LE or family/friends....but the next sentence is from Sarg Bender...saying he does have the clothes, etc...in quotes

I see your point but not sure I totally agree but that's okay:blushing::blushing:

BBM; Didn't say now.

It is IMPLIED because of the previous sentences in the paragraph. Are you saying the Channel 7 News reporter made it all up?

The reporter interviewed ER, who said she brought clothes for the scent dogs, who didnt have any yet. And in the NEXT SENTENCE, she QUOTES the sgt, who discusses the clothing, and it's possible use later on. And you are saying what exactly?---that ER is lying about the need for the scent items?

Here's what it said in the press release about the clothing. Doesn't even clearly indicate (to me) if they mean it's what he wore in the airport/Walmart, or what he wore when he went missing.

Based on video footage from the Durango-La Plata County Airport of Dylan arriving in Durango on Sunday, November 18, and a visit on Sunday to the Durango Wal-Mart, investigators determined that Dylan was wearing the following:
• A blue baseball cap with a white front panel with the words “Duke Blue Devils” in blue on the white panel;
• A black, short-sleeved T-shirt with the large letters “DC” (possibly in grey) on the front within a thin light-colored square border around the DC logo;
• A pair of black basketball shorts that went below the knee with light-colored (possibly light blue and white) stripes on the sides; and
• Black-colored “Jordan” shoes with a white tongue and white shoelace area.

This is copied/pasted from the full press release on Kevin Torres' Facebook page.

I'm editing this to add in that there is a Nike shirt - Dylan is wearing it in that portrait picture, which appears to be from when he was a bit younger. His hair is also much shorter.

There's no end to the things to be confused about in this case lol.
