In the scenario I posted a little while ago, I wonder if MR threw the phone out the window (after grabbing it away from Dylan and turning it off), into the thicket in the area where he let Dylan out. With it being dark and the undergrowth being thick, Dylan probably couldn't find the phone.

If Dylan ws mid txt when it happened, he wouldn't even have to turn it off. It would run out of battery soon. it was a flip phone so when it's open, it's using power. Might have taken a whole say 18 hrs to be out of battery......... like the amount of time it took to report him missing, several hours after discovering him missing. O M G ,,,,,,, what if MR kept texting it until it went straight to VM, knowing now the battery had finally died and he could report him missing without a cell phone to ping to ?

I worry that Dylan may have been taken out of the area. Perhaps LE has something and keeping the search close.

I've also thought along the same lines. theres almost 12 hours that are unaccounted for, enough time to drive quite some distance and return

IMO no further activity on his phone meant that it did not ping after 8pm, not that it was switched off or had a flat battery.

like with the two boys who were found submerged in their car recently, their phones stopped pinging.

This sent chills down my spine.

"Since this is a search for clues related to possible criminal activity, children and young people should not participate in Saturday’s search efforts," Bender said.* "

They are looking for more than just his phone.

The search will be along several miles of ditches on both sides of La Plata County Road 240, also known as Florida Road.

Map of County Road 240

Point A = Durango-La Plata County Airport
Point B = Wal-Mart Super Center
Point C = End of Country Road 240 ( Florida Road )

Saturday's Search will be between points B and C:

I have a feeling that lawyers in small towns in Colorado may have more flexible scheduling than those in Southern California.

FYI... I live in SoCal... And we have been fortunate to have lawyers, doctors, and accountants let us visit them... Or they visit us... In very little time...

but like I said... We are fortunate... And I don't expect this in all cases in SoCal, for sure...

Just mentioning it because we have had that experience...

OH NO :( OH NO :(
Do they know he's there? Somewhere?
I have chills too and tears.......... oh no.

It sounds like they fear he may be. Has anyone else ever seen LE say no children or young people should participate? I think I remember in the Jessica Ridgeway case seeing kids and young people participate in volunteer searches. Maybe they are just being cautious.

Great map.
Where would father's house be on that map?

thank you for this information...

Since there has been no "verified" type and place of employment for Mark... ER was quite vague... And Sleuthers here have not turned up any facts to my knowledge...

could he have been working in some capacity where he was "paid under the table" so to speak?

Possibly driving a truck... But not in a capacity connected to truck driving union?

Just a thought...

No, because it's not a union issue. It's federal law to have a CDL, and states are required to enforce the CDL rules.

I suppose he could have had a job where he was paid under the table, but it would not be behind the wheel of a truck. You can't out drive police in a truck, so you are stuck stopping at periodic weigh stations and LE can stop you at any time and check your books, they don't need a reason. Truck drivers have way too much back and forth with LE and distribution employees to get away with not having a CDL. JMO

Listen, I have put myself on soooo many timeouts in this case, its a wonder you guys can find me. I would go to another thread...and then within 5 minutes I would be back over here reading. Then next thing you know, I would be posting...and trying to figure out a way to say something in such a way that it wouldn't get deleted! LOL

This case has been a tough one....very frustrating to see such a handsome young fella, who has been through a fairly rough childhood, go missing without many clues. All the world ahead of him....but where is he? I am praying he comes home, one way or the other. The not knowing can make you go insane.

So Sprint or ATT or whoever can actually see the wording in the txts if necessary ? This is excellent news if they can find that phone !

It's my understanding that the carrier stores them themselves. I dont think they need the phone to see. I could be wrong but that is my understanding.

Hey a huge thank you to everyone who has posted and especially those of you who can do the map with the points of interest on it. LIKE VEGA :) I am so intrigued and following along but am nowhere near technically advanced enough to do those things . I've seen many links, pictures, maps etc. that someone took the time to work up to show US at WS and am so grateful. We can all actually see the lay of the land and make sense of the facts better when we can see these things laid out. I never once bothered to pull up a map because I don't understand how some things work..........on the WWW. So thanks all :)

My 14 year old son and I were instructed to look inside trash cans while searching for Autumn Pasquale. It was me that pulled the plug on that ! instead we continued to hand out flyers at an intersection.

Carriers usually store texts for some period of time.

A ditch search? Mmmm. Sounds more like an evidence search than a person search. Maybe they are thinking the phone went out the window, as some of you have suggested. Maybe they have tracked the approximate times....such as the time on the receipt of Walmart, then McDonald's, and then the drive home....and they have found the area where Dylan may have been along the way when that phone went off. Don't know, just thinking aloud.

This is quite telling isn't it? If they believed Dylan tried to make it from Dad's house to Bayfield that is where they'd be searching. They were asking for video's photo's from Durango to Vallecito and now are going to be searching the stretch of road from Walmart toward Vallecito?
