If LE thinks MR is really a suspect and doesn't want to name him for some reason, do you seriously think they'd let him search and possibly contaminate evidence?

Yes. Because of the way the searches are conducted, he would not have the opportunity to do that.

  • #542
That is what I was afraid of. so how accurate is it.. Is it factual or opinionated? Just asking not trying to be an SA.

It would certainly explain why LE has not taken 'an abduction' off the table the entire time he has been gone.

Also the one that was a head of each group would tell them what to be searching for which would explain they are looking for anything of his that he could have thrown out the window.

I don't understand the roundabout discussion about the phone? I think it's obvious the battery was not fried and the phone didn't go kaput. Mark HIMSELF said he tried texting Dylan to see where he was. Obviously the phone hadn't died.

I've posted the same thing a number of times.
MR was not aware of any problems with the phone, since he claims he texted it on Monday.

thanks for this info. so it sounds like LE thinks it's an abduction, but MR is still a question.
IF it's likely an abduction, I just wish ALL the resources would be called in ASAP. I give props to local LE, but it's not the time to figure out how to handle this kind of investigation as they go along, to prove they can do it. It's the time to call in ALL the help they can get.
The fact they said it wasn't an abduction and now they think it is is very concerning that they really didn't have a good grip on what was going on to begin with, and now as they're learning, they're changing their theories. How often does LE state their theory is it isn't really solid? How often do they change theories a few weeks in?
Makes me think time was lost early on while local LE was not necessarily on top of all possible scenarios. I don't know this for sure, but it seems that way at the moment.

The above article reports:

[Mark]"Redwine took a lie detector test and it was found inconclusive, which could mean a number of things."

If this has been posted before.... Sorry...

But I thought we had not found the answer to this question conclusively...

Yes, this process is called deductive reasoning. In science, there are two ways of arriving at a conclusion: deductive reasoning and inductive reasoning.

Deductive reasoning happens when a researcher works from the more general information to the more specific. Sometimes this is called the “top-down” approach because the researcher starts at the top with a very broad spectrum of information and they work their way down to a specific conclusion.

It's like using the "what if" function in Excel to come to a reasonable and logical conclusion.

There is no "back seat" in a truck so Dylan likely left his backpack sitting either on the floor or seat on the passenger's side of the truck when he was in the stores with his dad so it makes sense that he would take his phone out of his backpack and start texting if he hadn't texted his mother or friend before they headed home.

Mark was sitting within arm's reach of his son in the cab of the truck so if he didn't want his son texting, he would just grab it out of his hands.

At 8 pm, the cell phone was shut off and MR didn't say why Dylan's phone was shut off and so far I have no reason to believe Dylan slept at his dad's Sunday night. JMO

http://sociology.about.com/od/Research/a/Deductive-Reasoning-Versus-Inductive-Reasoning.htm

Some trucks do have seats behind the regular seats, they're called crew cab trucks. Depending on the size of the truck, some of them are not much more than jump seats but some trucks have back seats that are almost full sized. But even if it was a standard pickup, there is sometimes room to stash a backpack behind the seat. But I don't see where this has much to do with what happened.

Also, how do you know that Mark didn't want Dylan texting or that he would reach across and grab the phone? This is pure speculation.
I know a little about deductive reasoning, I do it all the time, but it should be based on facts. These are not facts.

If LE thinks MR is really a suspect and doesn't want to name him for some reason, do you seriously think they'd let him search and possibly contaminate evidence?

At this point, I've no idea what LE is thinking or doing. For all I know, they presearched the section MR was assigned to, then just watched him carefully. Who the heck knows anymore?

It took them 2 weeks to release the last known pics of Dylan - despite knowing exactly what time he arrived at the airport. There is no way that it should have taken 2 weeks to get those pics out to the public. Now another week later and they are saying abduction?! 3 weeks into the case...and now they are focusing on abduction? That just seems ... unreal.

I think it's possible that they would. A member of LE was with each team that searched. I know I'm going to regret asking this because I'm sure there is an obvious answer, but how exactly would he contaminate evidence? The presence of his DNA on any items found would not be surprising. Dylan was with him, right? PaulR, be nice in your response, K? :seeya:

I wish I had TxJan1971's motivation, but I'm afraid it's not one of my strengths. I did some of MR's quotes/comments, but have to read through so many articles to find when and where he said them, I'm already needing a break. Since there may be something that TxJan1971 missed (not likely though), I'll post what I have done. It's not all quotes, but it's things he's told LE or the press and which things have been verified. I think I've included the sources for everything. I did try to avoid any mention of Elaine so I'm hoping there's none of the he said-she said in here. Thanks.

He picked Dylan up at the airport, went to Walmart for groceries, stopped at McDonald's for food(?), and then started home. All confirmed except the trip home. http://www.canoncitydailyrecord.com/ci_22110078/dad-its-wait-wonder

Dylan asked to go to Bayfield to see friends that night, and was told to wait until morning. http://www.canoncitydailyrecord.com/ci_22110078/dad-its-wait-wonder

Dylan sent a text to his friend to tell him about the change. Confirmed http://www.canoncitydailyrecord.com/ci_22110078/dad-its-wait-wonder

Dylan had been up late the night before and was tired. Confirmed http://www.canoncitydailyrecord.com/ci_22110078/dad-its-wait-wonder

They got home, Dylan laid on the couch (I believe he said to watch tv, but I could be mistaken) and fell asleep shortly after getting home.

~6:00? Mark got up and attempted to wake Dylan, by making noise. I don't believe he ever actually stated the time that he got up, but he had planned to leave by 6:30 http://www.canoncitydailyrecord.com/ci_22110078/dad-its-wait-wonder

7:30 Mark nudged Dylan and said he'd have to get up now if he wanted to go. Dylan didn't want to get up. Mark said he was leaving and would be back around 11, and would take him to Bayfield then. Dylan acknowledge what he said and went back to sleep.

7:30-11:30 Mark drove to Durango, had an appointment with an attorney, dropped some papers off at work and ran a few other errands. Confirmed http://kdvr.com/2012/11/20/officials-looking-for-missing-teen-dylan-redwine-near-durango/

11:30 Mark returned home and found a cereal bowl by the sink, blankets and a few pieces of clothing on the couch, the tv on Nickelodeon, and Dylan gone. http://www.canoncitydailyrecord.com/ci_22110078/dad-its-wait-wonder

At some point he looked around and found Dylan's fishing pole missing. It's never been said when or why he noticed.

He tried sending texts to Dylan several times after returning home, but received no responses. Would be confirmed by phone records and Mark's phone. http://www.canoncitydailyrecord.com/ci_22110078/dad-its-wait-wonder

He looked around the area for him, but hasn't really said what areas he looked.

He went to Dylan's friend in Vallecita to see if Dylan was there. http://www.canoncitydailyrecord.com/ci_22110078/dad-its-wait-wonder

When he wasn't there, he drove to Bayfield to see if he was at another friend's house.
http://kdvr.com/2012/11/20/officials-looking-for-missing-teen-dylan-redwine-near-durango/

At ~4:15 he was told that nobody had seen or heard from Dylan all day. It's confusing what happened next. He may have just gone home, searched more, or stayed there. http://www.canoncitydailyrecord.com/ci_22110078/dad-its-wait-wonder

Somewhere between 4:30 and 5:00 He sent a text to Elaine asking if she'd seen Dylan. She was informed at this time he was missing. Confirmed http://www.canoncitydailyrecord.com/ci_22110078/dad-its-wait-wonder

After talking to Elaine, he went to the Marshall's office and reported him missing. It has been confirmed that he reported him missing, but not how. http://www.canoncitydailyrecord.com/ci_22110078/dad-its-wait-wonder

“We've got to put our faith in God,” Mark Redwine said Sunday morning. “I'm trying to stay strong and not lose my faith.”
Mark Redwine said in a telephone interview that “it's been very difficult” dealing with Dylan's disappearance sometime the morning of Nov. 19. “I'm not eating or sleeping,” he said.
Mark Redwine said he had some frustrations about the whole event, the first being what happened to Dylan.
“We're all searching for that answer,” he said.
“I think we're all frustrated,” including the community, he added. He said in the last day or two he has been trying to contact the task force for updates but has received no response.
Mark Redwine said he was told there's an area of Vallecito Reservoir that's “of interest” to law enforcement
“I tend to be more of a private person,” he explained. “I keep things bottled up inside.”
“Fathers and mothers do what we got to do” to support their families, even if that means long-distance jobs, Redwine said.
He specifically came back Nov. 17 to pick up Dylan at the airport. But Redwine said there had been some mechanical problem with the plane, so Dylan's mother rescheduled for Dylan to fly in Sunday evening.
“I've always said I'm, a city boy,” Redwine said. “It takes awhile getting used to.”

Dylan wouldn't have run away: He was too happy, his father said,
Mark said he learned from some of Dylan's friends in the wake of the disappearance that his son had been known to hitchhike.
"His priority was pretty much with his friends, so I wasn't alarmed," Mark said.
Mark wonders whether Dylan became impatient and hitchhiked. "I can't quite wrap my mind around that yet," he said.
"Reality starting to set in"
"I just want my son back," he said. "I know it's crossing all our minds — reality is starting to set in that that may not be a possibility."

“He has nothing and no one to run away from,” Mark Redwine said.

"That boy was my whole world," he told the crowd. "I would do anything to find
him. You don't know how much I love that boy."
Mark Redwine, who said he arrived late because he didn’t know about the vigil, obliquely responded to those comments during his speech.
"Unfortunately, his mother and I don't see eye to eye," he said. "I wish it could be different because at a time like this, we should be together."

My #1 question is:
MR said that DR was "out like a light" and he couldn't rouse him. BUT, he also said that he told DR at 7:30AM that he'd be back at 11:30 and Dylan said he didn't want to get up.
Is it just me or is that an inconsistency?
So, was he able to rouse DR or not? Was DR unresponsive the whole time or not?
Was DR out cold at 6:30AM but communicative at 7:30AM?

Since this is lengthy (like mine LOL), I will print out - review, and see if I have incorporated all of this into mine, if that's okay with you! That way we can make sure we have everything included.

He said that Dylan's been missing 10 days. I wonder if that was his error or the reporter's error. Dylan has been missing 20/21 days.
I'm wondering if its an older quote included in the article.
