I wonder if LE is considering a family abduction. Just a thought..

Thank you. I posted about being in error - now I'll go back and fix the post, which I didn't think to do.

You're welcome, I'm kind of skipping around, so didn't see the correction. No problem, many people get the terms confused or they use them interchangeably. Just wanted to clarify.

Just look at all of the kids still missing, here on WS-how do we know what the circumstances really are in their cases? They could have all been killed by their parents and reported as abducted, for all we know.

Yes, but they could also be stranger abductions. It's a variable. Like I said earlier, we are using data to say stranger abductions are unlikely. Why is that logic not good for checking the *available data* on this purposed scenario? Is data only good if it proves what the general you suspects?

In a family abduction, an abductor usually goes missing with the child. So I really don't see this possibility here at all.

I agree with your thinking, too. If LE opens a tip-line, it can be an anonymous communication of pertinent information. Great point.

They have opened a tipline ... long time ago

Anyone who may have information on Dylan's whereabouts are asked to contact La Plata County Sheriff's Office Investigator Dan Patterson at 970-382-7015 or Tom Cowing at 970-382-7045.

A local tipline has also been set up at 970-382-7511.

Crime stoppers and the National Center for Missing Children are also taking calls on any available related information.

Does anyone truly believe that Dad planned to kill Dylan? I find that option to be beyond belief, personally. IF he is guilty, I think it was the result of an act of anger.

Normally, I would not believe that a parent would claim abduction and hide the body in such an instance, but Dylan's father may have had more reason than most to do something like this. I am not saying that this is my unwavering opinion as to what happened, but I certainly do not believe in a premeditated murder. I am still not convinced 100% that he did not meet with an accidental death while on foot, although the phone thing gives me pause there.

Thanks Ransom.. I realized my wording made it sound as if they had not opened one up!

Yes, they could all be stranger abductions. But we may never know.

I don't like comparing cases, or using stats, as every case is different, IMO, with the possible exception of custodial cases where one parent vanishes as well. What I would like to know is how many children who went and remain missing within, say, the past decade, where there was no chance of it being a custodial issue. Are there hundreds, or thousands? I have no idea. I only know of the ones here at WS.

I struggle with that question. If this wasn't the first visit since a major custody change then I wouldn't suspect it was premeditated at all but that bothers me in light of their numerous court proceedings. Knowing when ER and MH were married/began living together would make a difference to me.

I do think it is more likely that MR snapped over something Dylan said or did (not blaming Dylan at all). I can see Dylan telling his dad that he didn't see why he was insisting on seeing him now when he hasn't gave a damn for years prior & he wanted to go with his mom and that turning ugly given what we know of MR's history.

They haven't said they are now focusing on abduction.

In case you haven't seen it, it appears that as of Saturday they are:

The thought of an abduction was completely unexpected, yet, investigators told Action 7 news that’s exactly what they think happened.
Lieutenant Ed Phippen of the LaPlata County Sheriff’s Office said it is now a criminal investigation with the belief that whatever happened was out of Dylan’s ability to control or get out.

It's documented that his wife claimed in court papers that MR took a swing at Dylan in 2008.

I thought the court papers meant C. when they said "took a swing at his son." Were there other court papers that were clear that he took a swing at Dylan?

Report written by Elaine on 7/4/08
Mark was having sex with a friend of ours in our yard under my window. Corey saw everything. Corey confronted mark. Mark got extremely beligerant as he was very drunk and grabbed me and took a swing at his son,
"D" reacted and hit Mark. He becomes extremely mean when drinking. Lets our 9 year old drive an ATV w/out him. The sheriff's office has spoken to him about this.

I could tell you of hundreds of stories of batterers who don't physically abuse their kids until they get old enough to really talk back. Though not everyone agrees, IMO abusing a spouse in front of your children (or at least where the child knows about it) is, in itself, abusive to the child. Those children tend to grow up being aggressive themselves (as it appears Corey and Dylan may have become). As ER said herself, if Dylan mouthed off to his father, who knows how someone with a volatile temper would respond? Especially someone who paid so much in attorneys fees to end up with visitation with a child who was unhappy to being visiting his dad.

Again, I was respoinding to the theory that Mark had some kind of motive to kill his son. Yes, I did mention the possibility of losing his temper and threw out the fact that not all abusive husbands will abuse their children. I know there are hundreds who do, but probably thousands more who don't.
And we don't know for a fact that Dylan was unhappy to be visiting his dad, that's also speculation. Maybe he was, so is that why he is missing?
I just hope he is found.... I'm not saying yay or nay where Dad is concerned.

We got a storm blowing in here, I may have to unplug computer. Sorry... thanks for your reply though.
