How long roughly does a 13 year old boy need sleep for ?

If he was asleep by 9pm and then awake at 6-30am that would be 9 hrs and 30 mins. I fail to see how he would of woken up tired and not been up for meeting his mates at that time.

In case you haven't seen it, it appears that as of Saturday they are:

The thought of an abduction was completely unexpected, yet, investigators told Action 7 news that’s exactly what they think happened.
Lieutenant Ed Phippen of the LaPlata County Sheriff’s Office said it is now a criminal investigation with the belief that whatever happened was out of Dylan’s ability to control or get out.

I have seen this article, and this sentence appears to be something the reporter came up with, since it's not a quote. Investigators don't say anything about them now concentrating on abduction. They have been saying this could be an abduction for a long time now. Or foul play. Since they ruled out Dylan running away.

Does anyone truly believe that Dad planned to kill Dylan? I find that option to be beyond belief, personally. IF he is guilty, I think it was the result of an act of anger.

Normally, I would not believe that a parent would claim abduction and hide the body in such an instance, but Dylan's father may have had more reason than most to do something like this. I am not saying that this is my unwavering opinion as to what happened, but I certainly do not believe in a premeditated murder. I am still not convinced 100% that he did not meet with an accidental death while on foot, although the phone thing gives me pause there.

I think premeditation is rare....I think anger...out of control...mixed with alcohol...is the reason for many abuse situations....whether leading to physical, emotional abuse or even murder....people can just accelerate their rage so quickly and not think rationally in those moments....it is sad.

IIRC, The fishing pole had been a new one, a gift from MR? I cannot get past thinking about the 'fishing pole'! A Red Herring?

First off, any time my children come to visit, all else is cancelled! Attorney appmts can be rearranged, if anything is that important, a telephone call would work, why not? If MR had something to do for work, surely that could have been done later, or even if he dropped Dylan off first, forget about the extra miles or out of his way. I think most of us would have arranged heaven and earth for our children to accomodate their plans. About not being able to awake Dylan, so wait!!!!! Seems strange to me the mention of the fishing pole. Why? Were there other fishing poles in the residence? We have so many no one would ever know one had been missing, unless recently purchased and made a big deal of it.

Does anyone know if MR had shown proof of recently buying a fishing pole? Even if MR did, Doesn't mean it was in the house or he had even given it to Dylan.

Excuse for Dylan being gone, and a 'Red Herring'! imo

There has been speculation regarding this, but I don't think we have been told when and where Dylan acquired his fishing pole.

On the MissingDylan FB, a woman posted that her son went to school with Dylan at Bayfield MS and they had taken a course in fly fishing in school. It's possible that the fishing pole was one he used for this class, and just left it behind when he moved to CS.

We have seen this and been debating it. This is an Albuquerque paper's version of the case, and contains no quotes from LE. Also it seems to have taken a source from Nancy Grace re; the LD test, unless someone knows of another source where it was stated that the results were inconclusive.

In any event, I am betting that LE included abduction in the scenarios and the news ran with it as being the most eye-catching. After all, they have always said it could be an abduction. I will not believe they stated yesterday that they believe he was abducted, unless I hear LE say it. JMO

I have a 12yo (and 17yo) and when there has been a lot going on it isn't unusual for him to crash and sleep a solid 12 hours.

Yes, they could all be stranger abductions. But we may never know.

I don't like comparing cases, or using stats, as every case is different, IMO, with the possible exception of custodial cases where one parent vanishes as well. What I would like to know is how many children who went and remain missing within, say, the past decade, where there was no chance of it being a custodial issue. Are there hundreds, or thousands? I have no idea. I only know of the ones here at WS.
I am not looking to make any conclusions. I don't see people get upset when we use data to say that stranger abductions are the minority, so I am surprised that people are so hesitant about me asking about it. It's just information. It won't prove or disprove anything. It just yields insight.

It may seem unbelievable but altruism is among the most common of motivators for parents who murder their children. Whether premeditated or not, altruistic motives - relieving their beloved child(ren) from real or imagined suffering - ranks among the highest for both paternal and maternal filicide. Ironically some non-custodial parents have murdered their children for fear of the custodial parent harming their children (less common is a revenge filicide in which one parent murders the child to get back at the other parent). [I can't cite specific cases - this just stems from me studying filicide for many years.]

Often we see suicide attempts in conjunction with altruistic filicides but not always. Stereotypically (and this again isn't concrete) in psychotic filicides the perpetrator is more likely to confess to the crime while non-psychotic perpetrators more commonly collude and conceal.

Bourget, Friedman, and Resnick are really great resources for those interested in learning more on the intricacies of filicide. For such a devastating crime it still is very under-researched imho but those are among the best.

I do believe that stranger abductions are probably higher than we know, due to the many unresolved cases. I guess I am not sure about what you are seeking.

LE has given us such a small amount of information, which hopefully means they are trying to maintain the integrity of any future criminal case.

I really think LE has a pretty good idea of what happened. Unfortunately, I imagine whatever evidence they have is circumstantial. Hopefully they are able to put it all together and make an arrest.

I do think something will happen soon. (crossing my fingers)

If I use stats to say it's family I.E. MR, that's using my head bc it's most likely. If I ask for stats that show there is a precedent for non-custodial parent disappearing their teen and not bring overt about it, I need to be schooled on how stats work. lol

One of my problems with this case is that LE has put great weight on the fact that Dylan did not use his phone; it is not something we here decided. They used this fact to rule out running away, or an accidental injury/death where he is yet to be located.

So obviously they find it very significant that he did not use his phone after 8pm-ish on Sunday.

Exactly.
No reports of any other communication from Dylan via landline, internet, etc
(if he did make contact with anyone somehow after 8pm, I don't think any of us have heard it? I haven't heard ER, LE, or any MSM mention it)

I can understand if his cell was dead, broken, lost, or tossed and he couldn't get phone numbers that he wouldn't know his friend's phone numbers. He might not know his home phone (mom's) in CS since they moved in July. Might not know dad's cell phone.

But I think if he knew anyone's phone number it would be mom's cell or Cory's and it's most likely he would've called either of them on the landline to complain about whatever happened to his cell and figure out what to do next. Maybe asking for dad's cell # (especially since dad told him to "call if he needed anything" and Dylan responded "I understand" before dad left at 7:30 that morning) to call him and ask if they can get a replacement cell. And it doesn't make sense that he would choose to hitchhike to his friends over trying to call someone on the home phone.

Ten agencies, including the La Plata County Sheriff's Office, the local police departments and the Red Cross gathered to further search with the community. Searchers hiked more than 60 miles of county roads looking for things Dylan may have thrown out of a car window.

They said it's possible he tried to escape or hide in areas of brush to keep warm.

For the tight-knit town that now has posters up everywhere, the thought of an abduction was completely unexpected, yet, investigators told Action 7 News that's exactly what they think happened.

Red by me: escape from WHAT? That is a very odd statement IMO. Sorry if this has been discussed a lot already, I'm still catching up.

Hmmm...interesting. It could VERY well be. If so, it still means he swung at his 17 year old son. (much better than a nine year old, though)

Cheers :D

But then add in the excitement of seeing his friends who he had not seen in months it does seen a little strange . But maybe he was just exhusted .

I just hope we get some answers soon as I'm conceded that LE know absoluty nothing here .

I haven't see much so far to indicate LE has a good idea of what happened. Even statements they have given are contradictory. And if they are looking for a live Dylan, I don't think they will find him on the bottom of Vallecito Reservoir.
So, to say they are looking for someone who is alive, when they have been looking at the bottom of the lake is contradictory to me. To say they don't believe sex offender is abducting children from the area, but yet claim Dylan could have been abducted, is contradictory to me.

You are correct, but I was referring back to where his mother said his phone was old and sometimes when he texted it literally smoked. I did not mean his battery was dead I meant his phone was dead, gonedy as in would not work and would not hold a charge. jmo

And before anyone says that his dad would know that and not try to call him. That can be explained by my own personal experience thinking my batter was just dead when in fact the battery was gone. I did not know it until the next morning when I tried to get my phone off the charger and it was still a dead battery.

I have had this happen to my daughter many times. IF this happened, I've wondered if Dylan became impatient waiting for his dad to come back and decided to walk or hitchhike to the nearest store that sold batteries or trac phones. He could have decided to take the backpack with him so that he could contact his friends from the store and have them pick him up there rather than going all the way to his house.

I think, if MR is responsible it is because he snapped & snaps very easily.
I really haven't seen any indication of that. I've read that he's lost his temper in the past, which I would never do!, but I have no idea what all led up to his outbursts. (if they really happened since he wasn't convicted in most cases.) I also haven't seen anything other than an ex-wife's accusations to indicate that he "snapped" now. Do you have links I've missed? TIA

That's exactly how my iPhone bit the dust.

Darn it. I was hoping iphones were immune to that, because my daughter has managed to kill smartphones, dumbphones, and every kind of phone due to excessive use - including excessive use of the charger.

from the news report:

so it's not a definitive statement that LE thinks it's an abduction, but it sounds like they do. But there's no source, so who knows, really.

I didn't say it was?
