In case you haven't seen it, it appears that as of Saturday they are:

The thought of an abduction was completely unexpected, yet, investigators told Action 7 news that’s exactly what they think happened.
Lieutenant Ed Phippen of the LaPlata County Sheriff’s Office said it is now a criminal investigation with the belief that whatever happened was out of Dylan’s ability to control or get out.

But then when I look at the surrounding sentences, it seems to be in context of
him possibly being 'abducted' on the way home from mcdonalds.

Dylan's parents also participated in Saturday's search. Mark Redwine, Dylan's father, was the last one to see his son. Redwine took a lie detector test and it was found inconclusive, which could mean a number of things.

Lt. Phippen said that they have not ruled anyone out as a suspect.

Has it been stated that it's an old phone with no 3G or internet? I know it's been said it was a flip style and sounded like it was wearing out, but I haven't heard any more about i.

Also, if the phone had games on it (my cheap slide phone has a few), then he could have worn out the batteries playing games while on the flight. AFAIK it's OK to have your cell phone out as long as you put it in 'airplane mode' (so it doesn't go searching for cell towers.)

Maybe the charger broke?

Broke isn't the word, but "wore out".

Back in the day when I had those flip phones I treated them like crap... I'd grab the phones out of the plug while it was charging, the charger wire always got stretched and tangled, eventually the charger wouldn't fit properly in the phone due to wear and tear.

I doubt this strongly.

But what's one more highly unlikely idea thrown into the mix.

Isn't it possible that she did send him with a charged phone, but he ran the battery down on the way to the airport, waiting to board and while on the plane? There may have been just enough charge left to send and receive a few text messages in a lousy reception area. I'd be interested in knowing if he tried making any calls or sent any texts from the plane (if that's even possible. I don't know much about cell phones). I also wonder if anyone on the plane and/or in the airport noticed him playing games on his phone for an extended time.

But he had his charger with him. So even if it was dead on Monday morning, all he had to do was plug it into the charger and he could text IMMEDIATELY. So I think the dead battery explanation is a moot point, since he had his charger.

If he set out and was abducted by a stranger as he tried hitchhiking to Bayfield, he may not have checked his cell phone before leaving.

I know I've left my apartment without checking the juice on my cell. It goes into my pocket and then I wonder why I don't get phone calls :banghead:

The only other thing I've heard about it was that it had no GPS.

But why would he go and try to hitch hike without first reaching out to his waiting friends. He was supposed to be dropped off there at 6:30 am. So he gets up, watches Nick, eats some cereal, but never reaches out to the friends who are waiting?

Why would he rush out to hitchhike 20 miles when his ride was coming back at 11 ? He didnt even call to make sure his friends were still there waiting for him? And he didnt call his friend in Vallecito to see if he could get a ride to town.

I just cannot believe that he would pack up and go hitchhike, without making some calls first.

My number one question to LE, 'why won't you let TES help? And secondly why no press conferences?. Finally third- why the seemingly contradictory statements to the press? The three reasons I'm having some doubts about LE.
Just my own opinion.

The only thing about TES ... I learned about them from coming to WS. I GREATLY admire their service to the missing/lost.

IF most of the people come from Texas, they will have problems with the altitude. Hiking, climbing, etc. at 6,900-8,100 (minimum) feet of altitude can make you very sick and quickly.

Tim's home town is 10' of altitude. The Rocky Mountains can be very unforgiving. JMO.

They've used four different types of sonar on VR. They have used the best, IMO. Doesn't hurt to have more though.

ETA: CBI and FBI is there, boots on the ground and all their support with labs, etc. NM state police/dive team has been there with helicopter support.

O/T

That's because you never, never let it rest!!! Just kidding, okay

:floorlaugh::floorlaugh::floorlaugh::floorlaugh:

True enough but I demand it be acknowledged that I don't spend all my time playing Sims and Matching with Friends. I also move files from email to Dropbox and make the occasional relevant post on here. Once I even made a button just for Shef using only my phone, lol.

From reading about Tim Miller's groups, there are chapters in many states that may already be trained. They don't all come from Texas. Same here, we have groups that are trained.
I remember this from when Tim went to Orlando. They already had a large group in the area.
They also bring their big boy toys like ATV's, horses etc..

Thanks for sharing that, I've always wondered if TES had any limitations due to conditions or elements or any other variable.

I would hope the Redwines and task force would at least contact TES and consult to see if bringing them in makes sense.

My child who is Dylan's age hasn't had her phone charged since Friday, since I help make sure it's charged before school on weekdays. She texts a fair amount on a monthly basis, but she is out of sight of mind with her cell phone. My child a bit older always has it charged and ready to go.

I am not even sure what to make of the phone not being on.

The ruled out SO abduction, not abduction in general. And that "inconclusive" came from ER when she was NG. Along with the: He failed his LDT, he didn't take one at all, I don't know if he took one, he took one but it was inconclusive, he needs to take another one.

I have a suspicion they got that from ER's contradictory statements on Nancy Grace.

AFAIK LE has not released the results of any of the lie detector results from either of the parents. That should not be included in the timeline at all.

I called Tricia to make sure she was very clear about that the info probably came from Elaine when she was on the NG show. She understood and in her words, "Okay, so we have to take that with a big grain of salt as it has not been confirmed by anyone else."
