No really, if this was stated somewhere I'd like to read it. I have always wondered where the friend in Vallecito lived and just how he thought Dylan might have gotten there. If he's within walking distance it might make a little more sense that MR would check there before heading to Bayfield.

I never said it was stated anywhere, I said that was what I thought. He lives in Vallecito, so it makes sense to me that it would be close. One of the assumptions I did make in this case. Sorry.

I totally agree. I was really disappointed. Well, when all is said and done, we'll see if he was right.

I'd expect that anyone in a semi-professional sector would err on the side of caution and wait for some evidence and be a little bit above judging someone based on feelings, honestly. Unless he's talked to LE and has more info?

I mean I respect him, it's just his gut feelings here... and gut feelings aren't all that reliable IME.

I've not heard that when he lived there he lived out of town

He lived out of the small town of Bayfield for about 8 years.

MR's home was searched Thursday, November 29
He hired a criminal defense attorney Sunday, December 2

These are Dylan's friends talking in a phone interview to The Durango Herald 11-24-12

Ryan said he texted and called Dylan’s phone all day but didn’t get replies.

Ryan and friends Fernando Stubbs and Wesley Herring were part of a group of residents Saturday going door-to-door in Bayfield on County Road 502, handing out fliers with information about Dylan.

“We asked (residents) about any sheds or barns where he could take shelter,” Fernando said.

The boys said Dylan wasn’t shy about hitching rides.

“Honestly, I think he was walking into Bayfield and got taken away,” he said.

Wesley agreed.

“I don’t think he’s one to run away,” he said.

I "THINK" I may have read it somewhere - not sure who said it - but I think it was stated how far the friend lived in Vallecito. Let me put on my sleuthing cap and I'll get back to you guys.

and why didn't he ride the bike that was outside the house. teenage boys are usually keen to ride their bikes to get places.

Ahhhh, but there is a difference. A BIG difference. "Hitching a ride" with someone who can later be identified just to get to where you're going is a different story from someone who stands on the side of the road with their thumb out trying to get a ride from a (likely) total stranger.

Ahhhh, but there is a difference. A BIG difference. "Hitching a ride" with someone who can later be identified just to get to where you're going is a different story from someone who stands on the side of the road with their thumb out trying to get a ride from a (likely) total stranger.

If he hitched a ride from the neighbor who happens to be a RSO, does it really matter whether he put out his thumb or not? In that area, and from what's been said about the road he would have taken, it would have most likely been a neighbor or someone familiar who stopped anyway, wouldn't it?

I have a question:
If Dylan died in MR's truck or home, wouldn't cadaver dogs have alerted?

He could have backhanded him and knocked him out. But if he was not actually dead in the truck, then no cadaver dog hits would happen. OR if he was taken out very quickly after he was hit.

Can someone clarify for me -- if we're following TOS and the rules laid out for each case in the thread, isn't that acceptable? Or am I missing something?

Is MR off limits because he "might be innocent" and negative observations about him are viewed as going after him and upsets some people? Or is this about Dylan and therefore the person who was last seen with him, responsible for his care when he went missing, is unaccounted for, hasn't been ruled out, and in by all objective means SHOULD be the focus of this investigation?

I keep reading somewhat subtle hints at how we "should" be posting, so I'm not sure. Thanks.

To you in your region. We've heard from multiple local sources that hitchhiking is still culturally normal there, being small town and all.

I think the quotes from the friends, which can be looked up, definitely tell us that they think he was taken away while hitching, and thus imply he was doing so with someone they don't know super well.

We can argue semantics all day, but you can't conclusively say what they "meant to say" any better than I can. All we have is what they said, and their suspicion that he was taken away while hitching a ride.
