I brought this up before, but the idea never got any traction :( Apologies if it was discussed earlier and I missed it. What do we know about the iPod that Dylan had with him? If it's an iPod touch, he could have a texting app and possibly a voice app for calling. More importantly, he could have the Find My iPhone app--it is compatible with some iPod models.

No MSM on that. Other than he had an iPod. I think we read somewhere one was taken during the search. Cant remember if that was the house or the vehicle. IIRC it was one of the vehicles. However it was never clarified as to who owned the iPod. Could have been Dads.

An ipod was taken during the search, according to MSM; it was not identified as belonging to Dylan though.

But there is an article which states (not exact but close) that there are articles of clothing Dylan left behind.

What I'm thinking is, even if you're going to wear the clothes you wore the day before, what things will you change? Your socks and underwear right? So there should have been something of Dylans left for the scent dogs to use. (imo)

One would think so, unless the kid just fell asleep in his clothes, and got up without changing.

And the way the article described the clothing left behind, it did not seem to be dirty socks and underwear. Because dad left the clothing out, sitting on the couch. I doubt he would do that with soiled undies and stinky socks.

I think they were clean clothes that were removed from the backpack OR clothing left behind from September, imo. All of the early reports indicated that nothing was left behind.

FYI-my oldest, at the risk of ratting out her little sister, tells me iPods are how kids keep texting when we take their phones away.

Too bad google earth isn't live. Then we could just see if they sit in the driveway !

There is a free downloadable program by NASA called World Wind. I've tried to figure out how to use it, I am a nerd but soooooo not a computer language geek. The instructions for accessing recent images was way to technical for me to understand.

I'd love for anyone who understands how it really works to check it out and report back.

Tks but I'm afraid I'm like you and if you don't understand it, I 'm sure I will not either.

Yikes, that is what I get for posting and going away for a bit...the ipod was NOT identified as Dylan's, is what I meant...

There are lots of free texting apps & programs that can be used on a PC or Mac... and the ever present and popular "Google" & "Pinger" phone numbers that some people use when they don't want to give out their real phone numbers or they have limited texting plans. Some are even FB compatible.

I don't think we know if the i-pod left behind was the same one he brought with him on the trip. I know what you mean about the i-pod touch. When my DD was
younger, I used to take her cell away when she went to bed, because she was staying up late texting. Months later I found out she was just texting with her i-pod touch instead.

But that i-pod they took could have been dad's, or an old one from a previous visit. We always had an old broken one laying round the house it seems. And MR has older sons, so it might have been from another son's visit. [ although he was mostly estranged, it seems.]

I only started using a Mac about a year ago... The very first instruction for the program - just to even see a demo said to "open a new terminal". :waitasec: It was like reading Charlie Brown's teacher speaking in "wha, wha, waaa, wha, wa". I Googled "terminal" & "Mac"... turns out it is a "Command prompt" screen (like on a PC). I knew then that I was doomed and gave up. :blushing:

IMO ..it's a strange thing to say she was going to buy him a new one for Christmas ... Unless she is convinced he is dead and she won't be buying him anything fir Christmas..
Why did she even bring up that fact anyway unless there was something wrong with the phone and she was aware of it?

I listened to this NG piece again and it doesn't sound strange in the least, she's wishing she had already purchased him the new smart phone he wanted and then says that's what she was (quickly corrected herself to "am") going to get him for Christmas.
I'm getting from her words and actions that she wished she'd done more, done things better, had given Dylan more tools, protected him more -- the things that parents are supposed to do -- and I would expect them to express all of this while their child is missing.
I would especially be feeling these things if my child was abducted while in my care on a rare visit to me in the brief 4-hours I happened to be out runnings errands.... I would be consumed with what-if's and how could this have happened and I let my child down...This might be hell for me personally but it's about my child, not me.
Hopefully all of that is going on and is actively helping to find Dylan.

Ok we need to know if that Ipod was Dylans and if it was found in the truck. Well i wanna know. If I am to accept Dylans phone had powered down why wouldn't he grab his iPod. No matter the iPods capabilities? Then again why didn't he just plug in his phone and text away :banghead:

ETA-I just did the circle thing. Gawd!!!!!
