IIRC someone posted information in one of the earliest threads here for DR about just how fussy and specific LE are usually about selecting suitable items to use with the tracking dogs. It makes sense to me that if they only have the couch or blankets to use, there is a strong chance that they will get mixed scents - possibly even picking up MR's scent predominantly.

MR's scent might be helpful too...:)

She did say it was older, but who knows what that means. Old is relative with cell phones. My phone was less than two years old when they ushered out a new model and discontinued all my accessories (Still a bit miffed about that-I LIKE my phone and it works fine). Older could just mean a 1-3 years old which in cellphone land is sort of old, but not what we would typically consider "old" in real life?

Does that make sense?

My phone was "old". Hubs got me a blackberry for Christmas last year, and an iphone 5 for Christmas this year...

Dylan,
Some days I start losing hope that we will find you. I wonder if we will ever know where you are or what happened to you. I wish you could tell us...did someone hurt you? Are you lost? If you could just give us some clue.....because time is flying by. Your family misses you. Everyone is worried.
Please come home.

It's hard to think of what he might be doing, but surely he's somewhere
giving someone attitude and waiting to be found .

I'm still wondering about the iPod. What do we know about it? I've been looking for links and can't seem to find much. We know he had one.

GRACE: OK, so that`s normal. What about the cell phone and the backpack and other belongings?

REDWINE: It was my understanding from his dad that everything Dylan had was in his backpack including his cell phone, his iPod, his iPod charger, his cell phone charger, all of his clothes. So we had to actually make a trip to get some of Dylan`s clothes from where we live in Colorado Springs because it was my understanding there were no clothes at his dad`s house.

The reason I bring this up is because my 13yo keeps bringing it up to me. She believes that since Dylan did not have a smartphone, his iPod would be VERY important to him(assuming it's an iPod touch). That's where he would be playing games, using apps, watching youtube, and maybe even texting. Thoughts?

You can't open your iphone until December 25. Sorry, I don't make the Christmas rules. :blushing:

But they would not be able to ascertain whether they were picking up Dylan's scent on the couch or not without something that HAD his scent on it. So they needed a scent item with ONLY Dylan's scent on it (the clothing that ER brought) to be able to verify whether it was his scent they were picking up or not, seeing as a couch is fairly communal and probably had quite a few others who sat on it, leaving their scent behind to contaminate Dylan's.

I have absolutely no knowledge in searching with dogs, only what I've picked up here, but it's my understanding that you need something that clearly has someone's scent on it to be able to find out whether that exact scent is picked up in places where others peoples scent is also present.

JMO.

ETA: From your last comment I see that I misunderstood where you were coming from, I apologize. I don't believe any information regarding the dog searches has been released, so as yet I don't believe we know whether a fresh scent showing he had been there the night before has been found or not. I think that's why I feel so frustrated, we have pretty much nothing to go on.

No need to apologize! I welcome anyone's insight into this case, whether they think my opinions are right or wrong ;0 I have been wrong once or twice in my life. I take criticism well usually. My own grandmother has alzheimers and told me I was GD BTCH. LOL. I said, "I probably deserved that one time or another in my life, so be it.." LOL (She would NEVER have said that to me in her right mind)

This bears repeating. The phone was not literally in flames, and I highly doubt it was literally smoking.

Many people these days use literally when they should be saying figuratively. As in, "He literally flew across the room at me." No, no he didn't. (unless he's a warlock or a bird) I stress this to my children all the time, as it's a pet peeve of mine.

thanks for the correction, I'm blaming it on lack of sleep.

Today is 12-12-12, the last triple digit date for many years. Seems like a good day to have Dylan be found!

Look, my feeling is this.
There is no missing fishing pole.
Dylan never made it to dads.
Jmo

I'd say maybe just speaking. What if they ran into POI at Mcdonalds or the gas
station or he's a neighbor they passed on the street on the way back to MR's house,a trusted friend. " hey kiddo I see you made it to town "' ... Dylan tells him he's going to friends in the morning, but trusted neighbor sees MR leave by himself in the morning, so he knows Dylans still at home. Just theories, but there's tons if you think about it. :( too many really .

Would you mess with a child that has a big burley father like Mark Redwine. Would you want to mess with this guy?
Are you going to sit there and wait for a chance dad will go out and you can go IN
and grab Dylan pick up all his belongings his cell phone his charger and his fishing pole. Not leaving anything behind? No dylan as i see it was ERASED from the scene or he was never there.

I cant see the stranger abduction theory.

I think there is a missing fishing pole!
I think dad bought one that night!
this is why he mentioned it.
Otherwise he would not have said anything about the pole.
I think this is also why we have not seen dads video at walmart!

All jmo

I would have maybe seen the scenario of the POI if he had disappeared overnight, but not the next day. ONly because of the phone.........that darn phone thing again

You're in big trouble now, SCHMAE!
"Is there a mod awake?" hehe
:thewhip:

Nah I wanted to ask a question. Maybe I can ask here.
We will find out now !

I was wondering if the ' sally so n so' comments below that story
that caused all the uproar yesterday could be verified by a reporter.
I was wondering if it was ok to take those comments and ask a
local whose covering the story if they know of or if any of those
statements could be true. Looks like lunacy but if true, very
interesting stuff indeed. So I just didn't know how to go about
verifying, even though it's likely a waste of time.

They could have gotten Dylans scent from the truck he sat in!
Dont ya think?

Or was that truck wiped down detailed was that an errand Dad had that morning, to wash his truck!
that would be interesting wouldnt it.

remember Summer Inman the family was seen at the car wash.
