And this is why, no matter how much I try to climb the fence, I cannot. If Dylan were at home and alive and well that AM, there is no way he would not have contacted his friend. Online, on the phone, text, FB, whatever. So either DR wasn't there and MR lied or DR wasn't able. Either way, I always circle back to MR. I have tried to think in other directions but just can't get past him.

Me too.

Dylan's mom and dad know him far better than I do, so I'm going to take their word for it that Dylan didn't like mornings, and had a really hard time getting up on non-school mornings. Elaine and Mark agree on this, and I can't think of any reason to dispute what they say.

Mom Elaine: Dylan was one of those kids that would take a shower and get dressed the night before and wake up the next morning and go to school already ready, because he did not like mornings. You know. But he was always good about getting up for school.

Dad Mark: Mark Redwine said Dylan had made tentative plans to meet friends at 6:30 a.m. Monday morning, but “nothing was etched in stone.” Bender said Dylan didn’t contact the friends then.

Mark Redwine said he had questioned why the 13-year-old would want to wake up that early in the morning.

This in bold from Mark was left out of the post about what Mark said, which left out the context in which Mark was saying that it wasn't set in stone. Of course plans at that hour of the morning aren't set in stone when you have a child you know has a hard time getting up in the mornings when it's not a school day.

Dad Mark: I laughed at him kind of jokingly because I know him. If he ain't got to get up, he's not likely to get up. And he's not the type of kid who's going to get up at 6:30 if he doesn't have to.

So was somebody holding the gun to Dylan's head when he made the 6:30am plans??

Elaine states that he still got up. Just that he got ready the night before!

Nope, no gun. Dylan was doing what a typical 13 yr old kid would do - he was making plans for 6:30 in hopes he'd get himself awake. The reality, per both his parents, is that his norm would be not getting up that early on a non-school day.

Elaine states that he still got up. Just that he got ready the night before!

For school days. He hates mornings so much, he takes a shower and dresses the night before - for school days.

I'm going to do the sensible thing and take the word of his parents who know him.

I had hope Elizabeth Smart and Shasta Groene would be found alive. I don't know how many times I got told I was crazy.

The circumstances in Dylan's case are likely different...
However, no child should be written off as dead before they are proven to be. :twocents:

I don't think any of us want to "write Dylan off as dead". Yes, there is great concern that MR had something to do with Dylan's disappearance. I mean LE even sent divers into the lake and I don't think they were looking for a live person.

I hate thinking with all the cold weather and snow about Dylan being out there.....I want him to be alive.....but there is nothing leading me in that direction....I wouldn't mind being wrong....but I also don't like to think about what he may be going through too if he is with an abductor....

round and round we go!

One aspect of this case has been virtually ignored. It as well would logistically present a number of issues for any LE, simply for the fact of what this area offers to people from around the country.

This is an area that would constantly have strangers arriving/leaving constantly. It would also be an area where many workers would be employed seasonally.

It is an area where strangers would not be thought of twice and in fact would be the norm especially around any holiday like thanksgiving.

What a great place for someone to blend in, not be noticed. Much more at the link, such as weddings, various planned events etc.

"Vallecito Lake area is a perfect destination for summer fishing vacations, summer and fall fly fishing, or winter ice fishing".

"Fall brings spectacular colors and cool mountain evenings. It is a great vacation destination to enjoy Fall Foliage tours all over the Four Corners area. The area also offers world-class hunting fpr Elk, Deer, Bear and Turkey."

"Winter season, you and your family can enjoy miles of cross-country skiing and snowmobiling trails."

"Because the lake is located at the heart of the Four Corners, it is a perfect vacation destination with access to all the major attractions and activities the area has to offer, including the Durango and Silverton Train, Mesa Verde National Park, Durango Mountain Resort, and Wolf Creek Ski Area. "

"Summer time at Vallecito Lake, only 18 miles northeast of Durango, offers a variety of restaurants, stores, accommodations, RV Parks, campgrounds, all types of recreational opportunities (see Lake Activities), marinas, fishing, boating, fantastic hiking, ATV rentals and horseback riding".

What reasons did LE use to classify Dylan as NOT A RUNAWAY?

11/28/12

“There’s a combination of factors,” Bender said. “There’s been the passage of time without any sightings; Dylan was not a visitor but had friends here; he has a history of staying in contact with his family and friends; and there’s been nothing on his cellphone record since he was reported missing."

---

From there to here - LE's request:

Specifically, investigators would like to talk to anyone who was taking photos or shooting videos that show vehicles along the typical routes between Vallecito and Durango from 6 p.m. Nov. 18 to noon Nov. 19. That would include County Road 501 and Florida Road (County Road 240).

Why would LE still be asking for footage starting at 6 p.m., when they KNOW Dylan was ALIVE after this time?

There is ONE way in and out.

I'm still happily on the fence :fence: but want to say to everyone Please have a safe and healthy Christmas.

I can't shake the feeling I have that Dylan is somewhere safe. I wish I could and like Seajay this is the way I want to think about him.

Off to do some family stuff and hoping and praying
that Dylan is at peace somewhere tonight and not
suffering in any way.

Some possiblities (I'm guessing because LE has not given a specific reason):

Checking MR's story - when he left to go get Dylan - what truck he was driving - anybody with him - following him

Wanting to see other vehicles on the road at that time - I would say especially those going toward Vallecito

Yes, and whoever abducted Dylan had to go in. That route is the most likely they'd have taken in (and out), and held the best likelihood of producing evidence for their one chance for a good big search before the winter snow.

I hope tourism is not put first when they have a child that may have been abducted in the area.....I hope that is not the reason for LE's silence.....

OT but you are lucky. One call can result in nightmares of red tape, even if done in jest or haste.

Yes it could of been a nightmare. My daughter did not think through the consequences. At the time it was not amusing but stressful.

When I look back on it now, I can laugh. Everyone was taking it very serious at the time. I would of never thought that something she was taught in school like emancipation would impact us like it did.

IMO since Dylans plane arrived at 5.40pm they are interested in everything since leaving the airport, unless theres only one way in and out from the airport and durango as well?

Merry Christmas to everyone, I hope everyone has a lovely day, please keep Dylans family and all the families of other missing people in your thoughts today, I wish there was a way we could give them all a virtual group hug and let them know they are not forgotten.

I don't think LE is being silent about this case because of tourism. I think tourist towns may cover up a high crime rate, but I don't know about trying to downplay one case. Remember in 1999 when a woman and two teenagers were murdered in Yosemite? I believe that got a good amount of coverage but I never heard about Yosemite suffering a decrease in tourism revenue due to it. I believe it would have to be a very specific case for it to have an effect on tourism, and any decrease would probably only last for a season.

I have to agree with MR on this one. THose plans were not SET IN STONE. I feel like maybe this might have caused an argument between the 2...MR was not planning on leaving that early. MOO

Well If MR was not planning on leaving that early why did he? Esp after Dylan decided NOT to get up?

Why didnt he just wait? Wait for Dylan to get up take him to his friends do whatever it is he had to do.

I wonder if he washed his car?

He's not her father. Nobody here knew about him.

That's why the poster put quotes around the word 'Father'.

He referred to the girl as his daughter even though she was not. He was on my radar because he seemed focused on himself.

I know that several posters mentioned that they already thought he was hinkey before police or news media ever mentioned him as a suspect.
