Why did LE wait until winter? I don't understand LE here at all. First of all they were slow-they haven't searched MR's house right away, and apparently first assumed Dylan run away-that lost valuable time. And why hold off on TE (assuming that LE didn't want TE to come in)? Now we don't have anything-no body, no crime.

And i am expect but if by Spring they do find a body then surely any evidence would of been lost ?

Not necessarily. But they seem nowhere close to finding where Dylan is.

Could TES do anymore thats not already been done? In terms of limited diving and rough terrain. Especially now that winter has set in? Just wondering if that has anything to do with it?

I'm not sure. I don't know if what they bring is resources for a broader search, in order to cover more ground or more focused resources, if there's a specific area that needs to be searched.

It could be that LE has no idea where to even start searching and they don't want to bring TES in to 'waste' their time, but TES works with LE so they would consult and make sure everyone was on board.

I don't see the harm in LE contacting them (or talking with TES if the family initiates contact). Why wait? Why let the cold winter come and let these next several months be wasted? :waitasec:

Not sure I understand the need for a different facebook page. Is its purpose to discuss theories or to bash on the parents, law enforcement, etc.?

The first picture is the side by side of ER (not sure what that is supposed to prove) and the second is a screen shot of Dylan's personal facebook page. They seem all up in the air about updates on that page. I read or heard that CR has access to Dylan's page so I'm not sure why that is relevant either.

Do you have a link for that? I don't remember reading it. TIA

Hello and thanks for joining us! I have a question. A woman on the Facebook page said Florida Rd is not the route most locals would take from Durango to Vallecito. Your thoughts?

I would have to disagree that the Florida Road route would not be the most often used route. Going thru Bayfield wouldn't make sense unless you were starting 5-10 miles East of Durango.

If I recall correctly... On 11/29 they came in with a search warrant, but LE said Dylan's Dad had allowed them to go thru his house on other occasions.

I don't know if they can actually establish Dylan being at his Dad's home or not but... LE said they got the search warrant because it was the last place he was known to be. What that means exactly I'm not sure though.

Can I ask how the locals are feeling about this case?

Most of the locals that I have had conversations about regarding this case seem to think that it is not a stranger abduction but rather it is at the hands of someone close to the situation. They also don't believe that Dylan is still alive.

Nope, I remember hearing it or reading it sometime recently but cannot remember exactly where. It was either one of the recent articles or maybe the find Dylan facebook.

This article was from 11/20. I personally think LE had to go through all of these things and at no time did they look at Dylan as a runaway only.

Authorities are searching for a 13-year-old boy who disappeared early Monday from a Vallecito home.

Dylan Redwine of Colorado Springs went missing between 7:30 and 11:30 a.m. from the 2300 block of County Road 500, just north of Vallecito Reservoir.

A postal worker possibly saw the boy Monday on County Road 501, near Vallecito, and two rescue workers may have seen the boy Tuesday afternoon, said Dan Bender, spokesman with the La Plata County Sheriff’s Office.

Both sightings are unconfirmed, and, in both cases, the boy ran from rescue workers up a hill in the Vallecito area, Bender said.

“We’re assuming at this point – it may be Dylan – eluded searchers,” he said. “We’re leaning toward his being a runaway.”

La Plata County Search and Rescue members searched for Dylan Monday night in areas off County Road 500. Search and Rescue was pulled out before dark Tuesday. Bender said without the pressure from searchers, Dylan might be encouraged to go to a friend’s house for the night.

Residents have expressed an interest in assisting with the search. They are being asked to search their properties and areas of Vallecito they are familiar with, Bender said. Until four months ago, Dylan lived in Vallecito, so authorities have been notifying friends who live in the area.

Authorities are not sure if the boy was upset and ran away or if other factors are at play.

“At this time, we’re exploring all possibilities,” Bender said.

From what they said, MR allowed them to do a house search on one occasion, but they just went through the house looking for things like Dylan's cell phone. There were no forensics collected at that time. When they finally got to do a forensic search on MR's house, MR even piped in that he expected them to do this much earlier.

This is just IMHO but "if " LE did lose evidence (DNA) over the delay because they waited to long to do a full out search and now can not conclusively prove one way or the other Dylan was there i would be seething if i was involved in this case .



Surely when a child is missing its all about urgency ?

A few threads back, we were tracking stats about missing persons data for teenage males in Colorado trying to determine if there were any patterns or other unaccounted for young males who had somehwat recently been the victim of a stranger abduction. To be fair in the comparison, I have wanted to find rates of children who were victims of homicide, particularly child abuse, in Colorado. Still working on it but in 2011 alone, 14 children between the ages of 1 and 14 were victims of homicide in Colorado. http://www.chd.dphe.state.co.us/Resources/vs/2011/Colorado.pdf

8 children ages 1 to 14 were classified as homicide. I imagine that 27 might include most of those 10. Somewhere else in my stats has mentioned that 70-80% of child abuse deaths are in the 1-4 age range. Considering all that, statistics still show it more likely for harm to befall a young adolescent child at the hands of a caregiver than a stranger. Granted, the stats show random predator 0, caregiver 1(and woe to the unfortunate Jessica Ridgeway who will prove these stats wrong in 2012) but I'm a stats girl and I wanted to make sure I was giving the stats a good look before blundering forward with the wild speculation that a non cusodial parent might have murdered their own child. It is not unthinkable- the stats show it is all too common, even if it only adds up to one child per year. Hope I'm wrong.

I dont think MR was afraid to let LE in his house.
Nothing happend there as I see it nothing to hide.

For I do not think dylan was ever there.

Can anyone think of a reason LE would not want an outside search organization's help like TES? I would think the more resources the better. Unless LE knows something? They obviously have not been able to find him on their own. I know LE is not always eager to bring these resources in but at this point why not? What could be the harm in doing so?

The only reason I could think of is that LE has a very good idea where they think Dylan is and are just waiting to locate him
