That comment has bothered me. Also, when LE searched Mark's house he said something about them not doing it sooner and LE being a week behind in their investigation (not exact quote but I think close).

Those comments make meel feel as if he is mocking somebody...or being a real smarta.....

Elaine has a lot more strenght than I would....I would be in his face demanding answers but as everyone has said, we never really know how we would react to a situation until we are in it ourselves.

Almost deflecting attention away from himself one would say .

We don't know how it was reported as missing. I doubt when MR reported Dylan missing he said, "My son and his fishing pole is missing." Maybe they asked if anything else was missing. Maybe he did buy it that night so it was on his mind. WE.DONT.KNOW!

This article from 12/2/12 mentions the fishing pole missing: (There may be an earlier article - I'm still looking)

With Dylan Redwine missing for almost two weeks, dad clings to hope

...When he got back at 11:30, his son's dirty cereal bowl was beside the sink. The television was on Nickelodeon. His son's fishing pole was gone. So was his black-and-gray backpack. A few articles of clothing were left behind on the couch...

the mocking smarta... is what I get from those statements too. IMO it's like he has a disdain for LE and thinks he is smarter than them

That showed me he had the same questions even most of the public did. What took them so long to start searching the lake? I still dont understand it. Of course Mark would certainly be frustrated by that as Dylan's father....understandably so, imo. I know I would be.

I can also understand his bewilderment on why it took them that long to even do the search warrant on his home. They should have done that on day one. In fact I cant remember one case where it wasnt done immediately even if the parent or parents turned out not to be involved. The police were at the Lunsford home immediately with a SW and stayed there for days and the same thing happened in the Greone case.

Mark has been fully cooperative per LE all this time. Like he said they could have come to him and he would have let them search anything they wanted to. Of course I can understand why they did it through a SW but I will never understand the delay especially with the FBI on the scene for days by then.

I didnt see any disdain for LE from this man. This is his son and he has a right to question how their investigation seem to go at a snail's pace.

IMO

That still doesn't say how it was originally reported as missing. If we are to go with this, then MR reported all of these things in his initial report of Dylan missing.

So according to the above article, according to MR's words, it appears he did tell LE "from Day 1" that a fishing pole was missing.

Exactly. I'm honestly not being snarky, but when I see a person a certain way, everything they do is magnified times 1000. For instance, if someone points out to me a certain person's annoying habits, those habits really start to stick out and I can't get past it. Everything that person says annoys me and grates on my nerves. JMO

And an earlier version from November 25, 2012 re: the fishing pole being missing:

Mark Redwine said Sunday that he hadn't been able to find the boy's fishing rod.

"I question why it has taken this long to start scouring the lake because from Day One they have known it is likely he had a fishing pole with him," Redwine, 52, said.

Again, that does not say how it was originally reported as missing. In this instance of him saying he hasn't been able to find his son's fishing pole, was that the first time it was mentioned? Did the reporter ask, "Hey, where's Dylan's fishing pole?" And MR says, "Hmmm, ya know, I haven't been able to find it?"

Right, but did he volunteer the information or did they perhaps ask what else may be missing? We.Don't.Know.

Well he didnt want his son going to see his friends but it was ok for him to leave him alone all morning while he did STUFF!
I've never seen anything to suggest that he didn't want him to see his friends; in fact, he said that he knew it was important to him.

Thanks that makes sense. The other fb page said it was her alias and I thought that was very odd. There appears to be at least one other admin on the FMDR page as well.
The 3rd person is Katt's daughter.

The initials of the admin for the Find Dylan facebook page is DH, nickname Katt.
They aren't the same person, but they are both friends of ER

This is why I believe MR bought him a fishing pole sunday night!
Why even bother to mention it?
Unless
He was seen buying one and then wont be able to account for its whereabouts so it went missing when his son did.
I'd guess that the main reason he mentioned it was the fact that it was gone. He never even said that DR took it with him. He said it was likely that he had it since it was gone. I'm sure he would have said the same thing about the bike if that had been missing.

If I were in MR's place, I would have expected (and wanted) LE to do a thorough search of my home just to make sure there wasn't evidence of someone being there who shouldn't be. I'd also expect them to at least do a cursory check of nearby water if there was a chance he had taken a fishing pole with him. MOO

Sixty people looked for Dylan Redwine around Vallecito Reservoir and Forest Lakes on Thursday. They also passed out fliers and knocked on doors seeking clues about his whereabouts.

Members of La Plata County Search & Rescue searched for Dylan Monday night and all day Tuesday, using ground search teams and search dogs.

The search area includes the shoreline around Vallecito Lake, several small subdivisions, two county roads, steep wooded hillsides and hiking trails.

Many of the homes in the area are seasonal, while some are occupied year around.

ETA: I don't think this is understood? So many of the homes around Vallecito Reservoir are seasonal. The homes are 2nd homes whether the owners live in-state or out of state.

Just some homes for lease off season/in season:

Okay WSers...this is probably just the New Year's talking, but take a look at those vacation rentals. We all go in about 20 bucks each and have a big Find Dylan House Party! We couldn't do any worse, could we? Except hypothermia and frostbite and lord knows what else but I would still feel better having taken a look.....

I have read every post since this poor young man went missing but have not posted. I have lived in Bayfield for just over 2 years but grew up in Durango. I do not know many of the players personally but i do have knowledge of the local area and would be willing to answer any questions you might have.

Hello and thank you for posting. My question is: Was Valecito Reservoir spilling water over the spillway on Nov 19? My guess is that since it is a BuRec contract-water reservoir, it fills, starting Oct 1, after providing direct flow for reservation and non-reservation irrigators starting around April. So the water would've not been gushing over the spillway and anything put into the reservoir would've had to been put into the lake itself. And not the outlet canal?

Thanks AZ Grandma for the wrap up thoughts. I am so happy that you are surrounded by kids and grandkids (my 6 year old and 3 year old are filling the room with chatter as I type) and when I think of Elaine, I realize we are all so very fortunate and she is not. We are all hoping for a miracle and bracing for a much worse reality. It is my gut reaction which suspects MR and I trust instincts, particularly of women. But because instincts aren't facts, I go researching stats and, like you, find that revenge filicide is a concept too apt to dismiss in this case. We all hope we are wrong and that, by some crazy set of circumstances, Dylan comes home alive and well. Until than, thanks for chiming in. Time to get the kiddos in the tub. Happy new year, all.

I have ATT. I couldn't text nor receive/send calls while in Vallecito on Dec. 8th. One peep I was with (during the search) had Verizon. NOTHING worked up there. We tried on CR500 right in front of MR house. Zip, nada, nothing worked. The calls/texts did come in later as we got to lower elevation coming into Durango where the Search Hdqtrs was located.

Wouldn't MR know if his cell didn't work at his home? Because he told us that he sat at home texting Dylan Monday afternoon, and waited for him to reply. Would he do that if he had no cell service?

Thank you so much, azgrandma. Your insight is priceless. I, like a lot of the posters, remember very clearly when children went missing - Jon Benet and Jessica Ridgeway, most notable. We parents were quickly reassured if we should be on guard of an abductor, or not. God Bless you and your family.

Thanks for your post az! Do you know at all how MR spent the holidays?

I made an earlier post referencing that cereal bowl, Nick TV comment and LE's response, but didn't have time to include the link because DH was almost home.

Here's the quote:
Mark Redwine said he left the house about 7:30 a.m. Nov. 19 to run errands, and that was the last time he saw his son. He returned about 11:30 a.m. to find Dylan gone. In an interview with The Denver Post, Mark Redwine said he returned to find a dirty cereal bowl near the sink, the television was on Nickelodeon, and his son’s fishing pole was missing.

[Capt. Jim] Ezzell declined to comment about the statements.

I'd almost be willing to consider it; the weather there would be a welcome change from the cold here! :hot:

My grandson spent the night the other night, his cell phone was buzzing all morning and driving me crazy. He has a pretty basic phone. The buzzing (that is still in my ears) was indicating that the battery was low. If DR's battery died, he would have most likely heard the buzzing as well.

RS&BBM

Not all phones buzz. One would have to have the vibration setting on.
