Phippen wanted to reassure residents that the Sheriff’s Office “does not believe there is a sex offender abducting children” from the area.
http://durangoherald.com/article/20121208/NEWS01/121209618/-1/s
From Dec 8th, Durango Herald.

I wonder what "does not believe" actually means. Does it mean that it's unlikely that a sex offender is abducting children, or that it's not a possibility?

Or it could mean that they don't have solid evidence that a sex offender is abducting children but it is a possibility. Hard to say from that one comment. MOO.

I think they havent ruled it out because they believe it is a strong viable possibility (didnt they tell one reporter off the record they do think that is what happened?) No matter his age he was a small 105 pound kid. In his last photo he doesnt look like he weighs that much to me.

Like others he could have been enticed into getting into the vehicle willingly and if forced he would be no match for an adult who also could have displayed a weapon.

They took the possiblity off that he was a runaway. They have their valid reasons for still keeping abduction on the table, imo.

IMO

It wasn't off the record. It was on the record, reported here -

For the tight-knit town that now has posters up everywhere, the thought of an abduction was completely unexpected, yet, investigators told Action 7 News that's exactly what they think happened.

Not a local and have no idea what it is, but looking at that map...the vastness and wildness really shows.

I wonder if Dylan will ever be found. :(

Not sure how to double quote yet but it appears to be a natural gas well pad

Dylan was not good at mornings and would get ready the night before ( but he did get up) - Elaine said this about Dylan and mornings (paraphrasing)

But we never did hear if Dylan had a shower that night and I he had prepped so he could leave the next morning .

She said it about school mornings, which highlighted just how difficult it was for him to get on non-school mornings, like November 19.

So instead of sharing this info with local reporters that LE likely has a relationship with they went blabbing to out of state reporters from NM?

From that comment, I'd say the sheriff's department would lose a lot of credibility (and that's putting it mildly!) if it turns out there is a sex offender abducting children.

I think they pretty much know what happened and are now trying to prove it, and of course part of that proof is finding Dylan. :moo:

That article is from the same day as the Durango Herald article in which a named investigator said they don't think there's a sex offender abducting children. Which is more credible?

ETA: Here is the quote I posted earlier:

The only reason I asked about which investigator said that is because I'm finalizing a direct quotes document and didn't have that on my grid and wanted clarification if I missed something.

So the point stands . If needed to he would get up and making plans with his friend IMO he would of got up .

He had to cancel plans with R the night before and was not happy and made plans for 6:30am and I take Dylan's word for that . Something stopped him arriving that morning IMO

Wild Bill Stanton.

And IU think the original question was if a PI was ever able to successfully find a missing child. Wild Bill has not brought us any closer to finding Baby Lisa, AFAIK.

It could be they think Dylan was specifically targeted by a sex offender, or it could be they think it was abduction by a family member or friend for non-sexual-assault reasons.

Which investigator(s) specifically told Action7News that?

Perhaps you could call or email the reporter and ask them. That's what I do when I want more info about a news article.

There was a P.I. in the Heighleigh Cummings case.
And OHHHH was he something else!

I don't think he ever actually was any assistance though.

I'm not sure why you're asking me this? I don't have any special relationship with the task force or with the reporters there, and no knowledge of their relationships with each other.

I don't think they'd lose credibility. He said abducting children from the area. There are no other missing children from the area. Yet.

They're saying 2 things that aren't mutually exclusive.

I'm not going to get involved in the argument here, but I did want to point out the fact that both people could be telling the truth. One says they believe there was an abduction, and the other says they don't believe there's a sex offender going around abducting children. Maybe they believe he was abducted by someone who isn't a SO. (previewed this and just saw that The Cheese already said something similar.) MOO

I'll just stick with direct quotes in MSM. Thanks for the suggestion though!

What point stands? His mother said he had a hard time with mornings, so hard that on school mornings, when he had to get up he'd shower and dress the night before. Meaning on non-school mornings, he'd tend not to get up. That's how I take what Elaine said. She's his parent, his other parent, Mark, indicated the same thing - that Dylan had a hard time getting up when he didn't have to.

I take the parents at their word, because they surely know Dylan better than I do.
