The one that makes the most sense to me (other than stranger abduction) would really be impossible to explain without it being obvious who I was referring to. For the record though, it isn't a member of the family.

very intrigued now

( Can You Hear Me Now? )
The above article is from 2006, so think about the Technology gained the past six years.

thank you for that. that's the fault of the person who wrote that article that these types of confusions continue. in order for that to work, they have to install a bit of software on the phone that causes it to wake up when a signal is sent to it from the fbi. in that case the phone doesn't actually shut off, it just appears to shut off. the article makes it seem like this is something that could happen to any phone, and that's not true.

here's a better article that mentions what i said about them having to install software on the phone first:

http://news.cnet.com/2100-1029_3-6140191.html

from the article: ""They had to have physical possession of the phone to do it," Porteous said. "There are several ways that they could have gotten physical possession. Then they monitored the bug from fairly near by." "

also: "An article in the Financial Times last year said mobile providers can "remotely install a piece of software on to any handset, without the owner's knowledge, which will activate the microphone even when its owner is not making a call." "

so unless dylan was under fbi surveillance and the fbi had a warrant to wiretap his phone, shutting off the phone does not result in any type of signal being generated. again, no snark towards you as i understand how confusing these things can be, especially with poorly written articles.

Thanks isn't enough for this excellent compilation. Small inconsistencies are not remarkable- change of language or a small detail remembered. IMO, these statements go beyond small changes and sound more like spin. I keep going back to the coincidences: Dylan arrives after a custody dispute and immediately vanishes, the cell phone going inactive, the backpack vanishing when there was never any indication that Dylan planned to sleep over with friends. My suspicions began as soon as I read MR had texted ER initially instead of calling, the first of several things that just didn't sit right. All MOO

And he purchased that plane ticket for Dylan to visit him, the same day they learned that ER got full custody.

To me this sounds like the FBI has the ability to "activate" or turn on a cell phone if it's off and use it to transmit signals to their listening post. MOO.

http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/headlines/2006/12/can_you_hear_me/

they would have to install software on your phone for that to work. so, yes, if you're under fbi surveillance they can do stuff like that, but if you're a regular joe like you or me and you turn your phone off it is off unless you have one of a very small number of phones that don't really turn off (some older blackberry devices that go to sleep when you hit the power button on the screen instead of the physical power button on the top, a few motorola clamshell phones that don't turn off if an alarm is set).

It must be so gutting for Elaine to think just because Dylan's phone did not have GPS this has made the case harder. It would not of prevented it but may of meant he was found sooner or the phone was ! :cow:

She thought she was doing the right thing by waiting until Xmas to give him a smart phone and in hind sight it was a mistake. Not at all Elaine's fault but i am sure it must be a "what if" for her !

I understand that this raises suspicion but I also think he might have purchased the ticket just to cement the visit and thwart any further discussion about it. The purchase date alone doesn't make me think he was planning something nefarious.

11/28/2012 Mark Redwine said he was going to give Dylan a ride to his friends’ house and tried to wake him up when he left Monday morning but said Dylan was “out like a light.”http://www.durangoherald.com/article/20121128/NEWS01/121129612

11/28/2012 Nancy Grace
HESS: The dad said that Dylan had been up fairly late, the evening before he flew -- the night before he flew in to Durango. And he was really tired they had gone to bed. And that he had gotten up in the morning, stirred around the house, made some noise trying to get Dylan up, and Dylan didn`t want to get up and go into town at that time.

12/02/2012The next morning, Dylan was sleeping on the couch where Mark Redwine now sits and where Dylan's blankets still lie jumbled. Mark said he waited until 7:30 a.m. but still couldn't rouse his son, so he told him he would return about 11. When he got back at 11:30, his son's dirty cereal bowl was beside the sink. The television was on Nickelodeon. His son's fishing pole was gone. So was his black-and-gray backpack. A few articles of clothing were left behind on the couch.

12/03/2012 “He was sleeping on the couch, and I told him I had to go about my errands,” Mark Redwine said in a Sunday telephone interview. “He said, ‘OK, I understand.’ The focus for him was to go to his friend’s, but I live far back in the canyon. There’s a substantial distance between my house and the lake, so it doesn’t make sense that he would walk out, but he’s a 13-year-old boy, and who knows what they think sometimes?”

9News - KUSA: Dylan Redwine – I Blame Myself

Mark Redwine:

“I do blame myself. I relive this 1,000 times, and every time, it comes back to… I seen him laying on the couch and I didn’t try hard enough maybe to wake him up, to have him come with me. I beat myself up over that constantly."

But that’s not… that’s not helping me. And it’s not helping Dylan.”

IMOO - this is what gets me, was he out like a light or asleep or awake enough to reply?

FWIW - I finally got smart enough to read all the postings before I log in so I don't double respond to something that has already been hashed out. Someone mentioned whether or not feelings/opinions would be different if ER had not made her statement on ABC.

My opinion, my gut instinct, ALL of that was determined long before ER made any statement on tv. That was formed about two days after hearing/reading about Dylan's disappearance in the first place. Everything after that moment has just added to it, no matter how hard I try to change that thinking, that initial thought, it just doesn't add up to anything else than more original fear.

He waited until 7:30 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Interesting post:rocker: When you say bizarre do have any ideas?:moo:

Sadly NO , I do not. But something does not quite make sense.

I'm always interested in learning, it's not about being right or wrong, it's the knowledge gained, in helping others.
This Forum is not about us, it's about Dylan.

Why so cryptic? If your theory isn't involving family members and you aren't naming names, then I don't see what the problem would be?

Mundane work related meetings gave me plenty of thinking time today. I'll apologize in advance because I'm really grasping at straws but I'm trying to think ' outside the box' and trying to think 'bizarre' ! So here goes.
Do we know if Dylan had an attorney ad litem ?
Do we know if there was a court appointed psychologist ?
Could DR have confided in a trusted adult ( teacher, coach, etc) who then told their spouse or friend about this boy they know. Some opportunistic person who's just listening to the conversation but remembering the details, towns, address, names, dates etc for a future stalk ?

Ugh,, ok correct me as I'm sure you all will :)

Yes, I agree that alone doesn't mean anything sinister but when you add it to everything else?

I'm not being cryptic. There are people other than family members who can't be sleuthed, and I'm not going to play the game of talking about someone without talking about them. MOO

I really want to see Marks interview tonight( it is not on tonight , just i want to see it then ). Friday morning can not come quick enough now so i can watch the interview

It be great to have new things to discuss again. Even if we all disagree on what happened we all have the same end goal here :) -- Dylan home safe and sound

I'm on an ipad at the moment and having trouble copying and pasting, but for those who want to read, at the NG transcript, there is a Telecommunications expert who attempts to explain the phone/texting issue to NG. Not sure if it will answer any questions --but wanted to let folks know it's there...FWIW

I don't live near mountains, but where I am in the UK is very remote and phone signal is almost non-existant. I have to walk round holding my phone in the air to send a text and its impossible to make or receive a call.

Earlier this evening, I sent my OH a text. Typed it, pressed send and then carried on what I was doing. Just a minute ago (about 4 hours later) I picked up the phone and realised that the text had failed. It was still sitting in the outbox waiting to go. I'm guessing my last activity may not even be recorded - when I thought I sent the text.

So, what if DR fell asleep around 9.30pm on the Sunday, tired after all the travelling and the late night before he left. Then next morning woke up, say about 8.00am, and sent Ryan a text saying he's slept in and missed the lift with his dad and would hitch a lift. Then had his breakfast and watched a bit of tv ....... all the while thinking his text had gone and his mates knew he was running late - but in reality it hadn't gone. He then grabbed the phone, charger etc and packed them all in his rucksack, never knowing that text was still sitting there and that no-one had actually heard from him.

After that, who knows?

Wouldn't that would explain the lack of phone activity?

Similarly, the texts incoming from his friends may never have arrived. I've received texts 24 hours after they've been sent - if not longer, due to poor signal.

What TV website can this be viewed on tonight please.

Yes, sure. I almost ETA'd my last post to say as much. I have no other suspect beyond MR but I still vary on the premeditation/burst of anger parts. I so want to believe with ER that maybe he has Dylan tucked away someplace but know is is highly unlikely.
