I was answering Ranch's question about why the cell messages couldn't be checked the next morning...I'm not saying the cell was the only place D could have gotten a message, but Ranch asked about the cell phone. I agree that we don't really know that information, although MB is rather insistent that it was a cell text. If anyone else has more input, feel free.
Darn. I was hopeful for a minute, there.

Your phone has to communicate with a tower to check for messages. If no tower, no ping, no messages.

:great: :great: :great: Thank you!

Where are we getting that Dylan's phone was fine that night?

Dad said Dylan was on the couch texting right before dad went to bed. So at about 9:40 pm Dylan was sending a text.

That negates earlier speculation here that there was no cell service at the house, and that the phone was lost or broken that evening, preventing Dylan from texting on Monday morning.

Ok time to get the elephant out of the room.

In the latest report from MB, if you watch the video, she states something to the effect "that when a child goes missing the clock starts ticking", and next on the screen you see 9:37. I think many believe this is a "CLUE". I don't believe that it is.

The fact is that LE was very careful in the use of the words they chose. They made sure to note that the "last electronic message" was 9:37.

Please as well note, that LE found Dylans folder for messages on one of the computers, of which I don't believe we know the complete contents of that folder.

As well, I don't believe that LE would consider a landline to be considered as "electronic". I have not seen any indication of pings or landline calls.

So if Dylan's phone couldn't communicate with a tower he would never be able to get a text message.

So it's a given fact that the only way that Dylan could text message was via his cell phone?

Video. Bender made the statement. I do believe there are other quotes one or two pages back. And this is in reference to the cell phone only. I've never said anything about communication involving the ipod or the pc. I was just responding to Ranch's statement that Dylan checked his messages the next morning...which would not be possible because Bender said No activity on D's phone past 9:37 pm Sunday evening, which means nothing in and nothing out on that cell.
Woo Hoo! Found one! Note this does not say cell phone text message.

"Officials revealed Thursday that Dylan arrived at Durango-La Plata airport at 5:46 p.m. Nov. 18; at 7:05 p.m., he was seen at a Durango Walmart; at 7:22 p.m., he went to a Durango McDonald's; and his last text message was sent at 9:37 p.m. on Nov. 18."

Bender as well stated the scenerios, which I believe if you review the reporters report, you will find that the ones they are considering deal with the morning.

I believe that wifi has not been considered here.
This was in regards to checking phone text messages. WiFi won't get me my phone text messages. Will it get you yours? Wifi will get me my chat messages and email, though. If no one is really looking at someone, they could be emailing and not texting.

Good thought.

??? I'm starting to think everyone is assuming I'm trying to say something that I'm not?? I wasn't considering wifi one way or another. Just pointing out to another poster that text messages could not have been received to read on Monday morning if the cell phone had no activity whatsoever since Sunday night. I don't know exactly what everyone is trying to get from me???

How so?

Thank you.

ETA: Wasn't one of the two scenarios that he offered something happening in the house?

For that matter, it might be a stretch (though I've seen it mentioned), couldn't the other scenario, "abduction," also have occurred the night before?

IMO

...Was R expecting Dylan to sleepover on his visit?.. No idea if this ever came up with MR (or anyone else), but it's something I'd like to know. I was the most permissive hippie generation late life mom ever, and I never allowed spontaneous sleepovers with no prior permission.

There had been discussion on this and one of the mods asked for a link.

At no time was it stated that the plans included a sleepover. I forget which thread that was in but I believe that Salem was the mod that asked for the link.

You're doing fine.

And thank you.

No, I suppose he could have been using his i-pod to text. But would dad have known what he was doing?

I have no idea what you are talking about.

Does anyone know who was actually interviewed for Melissa Balsius' series? Was it just MR, ER, CR and Office Bender? And, I think, AzGrandma?

His friends were as well interviewed if one would view the segment.

I do still have big questions about that text being from Dylan's cell.

Didn't Elaine have Dylan's cell records? I thought she had his records from her cell provider and she said he had no activity after 8 pm? Right? Or am i nutz?

Your right, the possibility of two devices being disabled at the same time is not realistic.

But have you given any thought that it's possible that Dylan, of his own free will, delayed communicating with his friend until it was too late for him to do so?

I believe that this could be a plausable scenerio.
