IMO our opinions are coloured by our experiences and what we are familiar with. 13 year old Daniel Morcombe was abducted an hour or so from where I live - he just disappeared without a trace, and with no reported sightings of Daniel with his abductor afterwards. His remains and alleged abductor were not discovered until 9 years later (yet to go to trial) - his parents were finally allowed to bury him in December 2012. I know a couple of us Australians have mentioned his case here before - it can and does happen right under our noses sometimes. Discounting a theory because it's flawed or not based on evidence is different to dismissing it because it doesn't fit with expected or past patterns/conditions/scenarios.
:moo: and not directed at anyone in particular so please don't assume it is. Just theories that some may think are unlikely, others may have knowledge of and be prepared to consider.

He did not just vanish as I read this case a few weeks ago . He was seen by a few people at the bus stop . So it was vierfield that he had been at the bus stop .

Nobody saw Dylan on the Monday morning . The only person claiming to have seen Dylan after Sunday night is Mark :cow:

I'm not familiar with this case but wanted ask if you know if Daniel's parents were involved in a contentious divorce with custody issues or if Daniel disappeared during a custody visitation?

Yes he did vanish from a bus stop - the fact that he had been seen by a couple of passing motorists doesn't change the fact that he was never seen alive again. As a local I know quite a bit about this case as do my own teenage boys, who only need a gentle "remember Daniel" from me to be reminded to keep safe when out and about away from home. My point was that 13 yo boys can most definitely be abducted by a predator - which throughout these threads some have dismissed as highly unlikely or nigh impossible.
Dylan was seen by someone on Monday morning - his father.
:moo:

Can you show me proof of Mark seeing Dylan Monday mornig as I have never seen proof of this "fact"!

Nobody saw Dylan on the road on Monday . It can not be proven that Dylan set out on foot on the Monday morning !!

It does preclude Dylan having received texts Monday morning, but yes, he COULD have received texts Sunday night and not read them. HOWEVER, if he opened his texts messages to read them in the morning, a phone will "ping" to look for more messages, even if there aren't any. Wifi does the same with email, but I'm not familiar with iMessage, should that have been what he used. (I wish I knew what type of phone he favored. It'd make it a lot easier without all the disclaimers I have to use since I don't know )

Thanks for your input.

I haven't seen anything that would preclude Dylan receiving or checking texts in the morning.

We don't know what time the phone stopped pinging, except that it was "when Dylan vanished", and we don't know when that was.

We'll have to agree to disagree and move on.

Thank you also for your input.

Haha - nope the family was a loving and supporting one . The child set out to buy Xmas gifts and vanished . But there was sightings of him at the bus stop before he vanished .

Unlike Dylan who vanished into thin air which is why it's not the same !

I've always thought that once the phone ran out of battery, it was placed on charge, and neither Dylan or his dad were aware that it was actually beyond recharging. This wouldn't have been discovered by Dylan until the next day, after MR had left on his errands, and Dylan finally woke up and started moving around. If this was the case I can imagine Dylan would have been mighty ticked off and even more inclined to stomp out of the house impatiently. And I don't buy for a minute that he would have called his dad in desperation and asked him to bring him home a new phone (that was suggested here repeatedly in early threads). Surely only a really indulged teen would expect that to work - especially if he was expecting a new smart phone for Xmas.

I don't think anyone suggested that Dad would bring him home a new phone. But there were suggestions that dad would take him to town for a new battery or a CHEAP replacement. You can get a flip phone preloaded with minutes for 50 bucks. I don't think it means a kid is 'indulged.' I think most parents NEED their teens to have cell phones if the teen is out and about on their own. It is not an indulgence, it is a safety device, imo.

Why should he stomp off mad w/out a phone when he could use the landline or the i-pod or the computer to reach out to friends for a ride and/or to contact mom and or dad to try and get his phone fixed? Would he want to go off to town with no way to communicate with his friends at all? If he waited an hour or two fro dad he could have that problem solved immediately.

no Daniels parents are still together. Daniel disappeared when he was going to buy Christmas presents.

there were sightings of him at the bus stop and IIRC there was mention of a vehicle seen stopped there.

Ticked off? Why would he be "ticked off"? He had an ipod, a computer and a land line!

ETA: and if he was like most tech savvy kids, he probably would have been jumping up and down for joy because it meant he might just be able to talk mom or dad into a new cell phone for Christmas...."geez mom, the battery is going bad", "I need a new phone".

Fair enough - forget about the ticked off part. I actually didn't think the dead phone was such a big deal anyway - I was imagining a scenario revolving around the fact that others have implied he couldn't face the world without using his cell phone that morning. Throughout these threads the no cell activity has been tossed up as being the big "red flag" so I was trying to incorporate it into a scenario that didn't necessarily involve filicide.

Quote from MB:
Melissa Blasius ‏@MelissaBlasius
@SherryGrondin Dylan Redwine used cell until 9:37 the night prior to disappearing, and not at all after that.

I copied the tweet for you and Bender did say that in the video. TXJan has the transcript somewhere on here. Dylan cannot receive a text on his cell if there is no activity past Sunday night. It is impossible unless LE is lying.

So are you saying that it's confirmed by LE that the 9:37 PM text message was sent by Dylan's cell phone and not by his iPod?

I'm pretty sure this request isn't serious, but I don't know that if a stranger reported a sighting of Dylan that morning they would necessarily need to provide photo evidence or something similar? I don't need proof to make that part of my opinion -MR has stated this in MSM several times now. I can't make anyone choose to believe him, or ER, CR or LE for that matter.

It's clear I am sitting hopefully on the side of the fence which is looking beyond MR as the only possible perp here. I make no secret of that. I haven't challenged every other scenario offered here as being ridiculous, and I think my posts have all been respectful and within TOS. If my opinion is downright offensive for some reason, please scroll past and ignore.

...Was R expecting Dylan to sleepover on his visit?.. No idea if this ever came up with MR (or anyone else), but it's something I'd like to know. I was the most permissive hippie generation late life mom ever, and I never allowed spontaneous sleepovers with no prior permission.

Shooooooot, I had the Kool-Aid house. Loads of kids always around, a half pipe skate ramp in the back yard. I always had kids sleeping over here. Whoever was here at dinnertime ate, and whoever was here at bedtime went to bed. They would have to call their parents to get permission from them, but my kids knew it was ok with me. I figured if my kids are here, I knew where they were, who they were with and what they were doing.

Not sure you should be making references to being the Kool-Aid house :D it has different connotations to different people.

Sorry if i seemed rude. My only point was that comparing the two cases is like saying Apple and Oranges are the same.

They are different !

Again - a 13 year old boy abducted by a predator. Others have refused to believe this is even possible - that was my only point. Of course they aren't the same, yet posters reference other cases here all the time just as a matter of interest/comparison/contrast or yes, even similarities. Discussion of something other than MR, phone pings or fishing rods is all good with me.
