One goal is youth education and community support, beginning with easiest and most fun task – take a kid fishing. Five Rivers also paid for a youngster from the area to go to the Colorado Trout Unlimited fishing camp, put on programs to introduce young people to fly fishing and conservation ethics, worked with Bayfield Middle School’s fishing program – what a wonderful way to get kids out in the water and connect them with nature – and taught a fly-tying session with the students at the Southern Ute Academy.

Great find, Ransom. Also with one of the state's best fly fishing rivers right outside the door, I think it likely that a kid would learn to fly fish. And a fly rod explains why he would not need tackle/bait.

No confirmation that Dylan took a fly fishing rod. No confirmation that Dylan even took a fishing rod. MR said he did. Then on Dr. Phil, MR said he couldn't say for sure. So, in the words of MR...we don't know.

In my memory, the discussion was about where he thought Dylan might have been/gone, or what might have happened to him. He mentioned the campground, river, bridge and rock wall, and she interrupted by saying, "In November?" That had nothing to do with what he was saying, because the weather was still fairly warm for that time of year. I happen to agree that if she thought it was too cold to be out for any length of time (knowing that he and his friends would likely spend a couple of days running around outside) that she should have made sure he brought a coat/jacket with him. I really couldn't say if either comment was appropriate at that time though. MOO
Thank you. The temperature was between 30 and 47 degrees from 7:30 to 11:30 that day. Is that really considered fairly warm in that area? It's considered cold around here, but that can be relative.

Respectfully, I guess we will have to disagree on what an interruption is. In the video, Mark says
"When I got back at 11:30, I didn’t think much of Dylan not being there. He knows the area, he’s been up to my house MANY times, there’s a campground at the end of the road which is not right by the river which he tends to go up to every now and then, there’s a bridge right down the street where it crosses right over the river, which he’s been know to hang out before, there’s a rock wall that’s right directly behind my house he’s been known to go stomping around in the woods back there. I mean it didn’t…I didn’t find it…this odd that he wasn’t sitting there waiting for me.”

That sounds like a finished sentence to me.

That is when Elaine says "In November? In Mid-November?" Which could either mean that it was cold, or that, since all the campgrounds and such are closed at that time of year, why would he want to go hang out there alone.

Then Mark says "And you sent him, you sent him without a coat?". I don't see why that matters when you are talking about where he could be. The time of year and the temperature matters when you are talking about where he could be, because those things have a bearing on how long someone would stay outdoors, but not whether or not Mark or Elaine supplied him with a coat. What would matter is if he HAD a coat when he went missing. You see, if Mark had said "Well, I know he had a coat because he didn't bring one so I lent him mine." that would have made sense to me.

Thank you for explaining your point of view to me. I appreciate it.

ETA: I read the chart wrong so I had the low temperature too high-fixed it

All which can be left on the pole and stored in this manner. You don't need to attach a hook or fly-lure every time you go fishing. Professionals or more avid fishers would carry a tackle box, not necessarily a teen just messing around for fun. Fly rods can usually be broken down into 4 pieces.

ETA - earthworms are not used to fly fish.

My dad and brothers used salmon eggs or powerbait.

IMO, the fly rod discussion is to explain how Dylan could leave with a rod without taking a tackle box. Mark did not provide any explanation about tackle/bait/gear and this could explain why. It does not mean the story is true or false. Just removes one barrier to the theory. There's still quite a few other barriers to the Dylan Went Fishing stories.

I live in Colorado. Anything above 40 can feel warm if the sun is shining. If it were cloudy or breezy it would probably feel coldish to me. Kids at my sons' schools don't wear coats when they're running around outside, even in snowstorms. But I would expect Dylan to have a hoodie. And I don't think I've read anything about a hoodie. I think my kids have 20+ hoodies each.

Why is WS being such a pain in the arse today? I am having constant problems with reloading the page and then no access to the site. Finally shut down and rebooted. Anyone else having problems?

Yes. It happens to me about once a day and I've attributed it to load on the forum server.

Like rubber worms...In my experience with fishing with kids, they like to make it as easy as possible.

I thought the whole "fly fishing" thing came from a facebook rumor?

It is okay to speculate about the fishing - fly or otherwise. We know there is allegedly an issue regarding the fishing pole and we know that the school has fly fishing classes. If members want to speculate about fly fishing, they may do so.

The rumor was that Dylan took a fly fishing class - NOT that fly fishing, in and of itself is a rumor.

I hope that helps,

Salem

Yep every time I refresh it drops out and won't load. Frustrating!

IF someone were to drive from Vallecito to Colorado Springs, would the 160 east to 25 north be considered the 'normal' route??
Are there any alternative or 'shortcut' routes? I mean, I can look at the map, but what might a local suggest/think of.

On one trip south from Denver I took 285 south to Monte Vista and then over on 160 to Durango. That would put you a bit west of Colorado Springs so you'd come up 285 to Salida then over to the Springs. I pulled out my map and it looks like another route is to come south from Pueblo on Hwy 17 which would be more direct than 285, but still puts you in Salida, west of Colorado Springs. Neither are shortcuts. When I want to get there fast it's I25 to 160 and over. That's the boring but fast route.

In regards to what Dylan packed and brought with him and the strange answer to ER on Dr Phil about her sending Dylan without a coat....

MR would have us believe Dylan spent a lot of time up at his home. So much so that he knew all these places Dylan liked to hang out at. And of course the fishing pole. So here's the thing. ER was paying MR child support. Why didn't Dylan have a full set of clothes and a coat that fit him there at the house? He had a bedroom there right? So why didn't he have clothes and anything else he needed there? That comment was just offensive.

Considering MR was receiving child support, Dylan should have been able to show up at his Dads house with just his cell phone and the clothes on his back. So I'm guessing that there was no coat that would fit him there? Or was there a coat there for him? I guess it's not missing if there was? Once again we're left wondering if MR's recollections are of a much younger Dylan. And why he talks of this close relationship and how he knows his son when he doesn't even have a jacket there for him is weird. Or any video games either because didn't he say Dylan didn't bring any? So he has nothing there for Dylan but a small BMX bike and a fishing pole and Dylan never slept in his supposed bedroom either. WTH was ER paying the support for?

~Respectfully snipped~

Hey Smooth - you need to link up this statement, please. I don't remember ER ever saying she knew, I must have missed that somewhere.

Thanks,

Salem

Sorry, just now replying to your request, Salem..traveling again so not able to check in as often as usual..

You will find Elaine's actual reply to MB's inquiry beginning at the 21:32 minute mark on the Uncut interview footage.. sorry as I have the interview videos downloaded to my tablet so am unable to actually post a direct link to this video at the moment, but do know that it is posted in the Media thread for any wanting to review it..as well as we also have TxJan1971 who fully transcribed the full uncut interviews as well(tho unfortunately I don't have those saved on this tablet:crazy: ..lol..go figure as that would have come in mighty handy at this moment..lol)

MB brings up the sealed statements and Elaine states,
"The judge made it clear when he spoke with Dylan one on one that they would not release these records. They were released to LE, but they won't release them to anyone other than LE."
To which Melissa Blasius asks,
"Doesn't that make you like what would have been in there that was sooooo....?"
To which Elaine replies @ the 21:32 min mark,
"No, I know how Dylan felt, I am not concerned. I just want those records to have been released to LE ... There is a reason the judge sealed those records."

So, this is the exact conversation that I spoke of in my post upthread discussing Dylan's sealed statements and that IMO Elaine is absolutely aware of why Dylan spoke with the judge and its my opinion that it is a testament to the close relationship, with open dialogue, that she and Dylan had.. and its for that reason that Elaine Redwine knew exactly what and how Dylan felt about the issues that were discussed between he and the judge..and IMO Elaine knows that there was good reason why those statements made by Dylan were in fact sealed by the judge..
but of course this is MOO and am always sure to make certain atleast that point is clarified in my posts.

Hopefully that clarifies the issue that you were asking about and my apologies if my particular wording seemed to indicate something more or different(as we all know my wordiness does not at all equal clear and completely thorough thoughts in my head being successfully translated from my brain to the words of a post..lol)

Just lemme know if there's anything else regarding my being unclear..or nonsensical.. I'll hopefully have some time to check in and get better caught up later this evening..:)

I keep hearing mention of MR saying Dylan did not have a coat with him. And that Dylan had no games in his backpack. And that Dylan's charger was in his backpack..and that Dylan.s phone was in his backpack. Am I the only one that finds it strange 5that MR knows all the contents of his backpack being as they would only have been awake at the house together for a total of approx 2 hours ? And MR spent that time going through his backpack?

Hmm, now just speculating- I do not mean anything against DR personally,
but what if DR really just wasn't all into this trip overall, even though he hoped to see friends. What if there was a to-do by someone about a possible general attitude, maybe a little belly aching about the overall plans about the visit time. ...and a "okay then you don't wanna be here fine, pack your crap, I am taking you home boy" kind of thing went down that night?
Even though someone wasn't really going to take him home...maybe gonna scare the bejeezus out of DR, Like see, I can take you home if I want so there,

and things got out of hand... some where out there on a road less traveled.

And someone comes back in undercover of night??

hey . just thinking

In mid November with no coat? Is this even a good time for trout fishing? I know nothing about that but I don't know anyone who would fish in November in a cold climate. Doesn't look like they even ice fish in the winter on that lake.

Dylan is not a 10yr old boy who would throw a rod in water whenever just for the heck of it. I think he'd know when it would be productive to go fishing. Especially if he took a class.

Isn't a fly fishing rod really long? Who stores that in a small house beside the tv? Or any rod for that matter. Dont they get a little smelly with the bait and all?Nothing he says makes any sense.

MOO
