I am not Ghostwheel, but it does not necessarily mean that LE is lying. The K9's could very well of had accurate alerts. Just maybe LE knows why they alerted.

I think back as well to the Sierra Lamar case, and LE stated that they tracked her scent to the end of the driveway. Once there was an arrest, we found that yes she was tracked to the end of the driveway, and then tracked half way down the block.

Kinda like partial disclosure.
BBM: The sin of omission, as it were. (Teenagers do it all the time :) ) It's a valuable tool for LE, when they need to let people know enough to help, but not enough to clue in a perp.

I believe

LE only releases information in order to OBTAIN further information

I agree that LE releases information to obtain further information, sometimes. Sometimes they do it because they have to. Sometimes they do it to cover their behinds.

One way or the other, with the Spring thaw, we will get answers concerning the lake. Either to confirm or eliminate. IMO.

What if the best divers, sonar, ROV's don't find anything. Anything at all? I guess as much as we'd all like confirmation or elimination, I have to think that it may not happen either way. And we'll be here discussing what that means.

What if they DO?

What if they DO?

Then like SeaJay said, we will have confirmation or elimination. I was only presenting a third possible outcome.

Hey im just trying to stir up some conversation here seems this thread has dried up

I sure hope so.

That makes no sense. Polygraphs serve a purpose, and that is to guide the course of an investigation.

And all this time, I thought they were an effort at detecting deception. One of many tools in the box of investigators.

That tool has helped many cases get solved.
How about Voice stress tests?
What do you think about those?

It makes sense to me. What if LE gives a suspect a polygraph and he passes it but they have other evidence that points to the suspects guilt. Should they rely solely on the polygraph and direct their investigation elsewhere or let the evidence guide them?

I would hope that LE would let the evidence guide them and not the polygraph. MOO.

Right. Which is a tool to guide the direction of an investigation.

From what I know (and little I do) most polygraphs results are used more as "this guy needs checking out" as opposed to "he is guilty

Noone has implied that polygraph results should be relied upon solely. But, again, they do serve a purpose, and that is to guide the direction of an investigation in the ABSENCE of direct evidence.

As folks have stated recently, a polygraph by Mr. Redwine @ this point would be unnecessary, given that the first one was failed (or, @ the very least, was inconclusive), and he has successfully avoided taking a second one to-date. It would stand to reason that LE has all it needs in relation to whether this individual is behaving deceptively or not. The results themselves are moot.

Again, a tool amongst other tools wherein each would help to guide the direction of an investigation.

I think there is a reason that these tests can not be compelled. And a reason that they are often excluded from trial. The primary reason being that they are not 100% accurate. At least the polygraph tests have some regulation and VSA has none. Unless I'm mistaken, it's been called a pseudo-science. I think George Zimmerman took a voice stress test and passed it.

I am not condemning their use, I just don't think either are the alpha or omega of an investigation.

That is the most logical conclusion, based upon the known information @ this time. There are simply too many obstacles to overcome to believe otherwise.

ETA: Apparently, the post I was quoting has been removed.

Calling Detective Joe Kenda. What I would pay for his opinion on this case :) .

LOL, sometimes I really enjoy Joe Kenda and then sometimes he sounds like a pompous something or other. Clarity is never wrong in hindsight!

Investigators obviously have suspicions about MR IMO based on the last new release in the media thread:

Mark’s and Dylan’s interactions and activities within the community on November 18th and 19th, as well as tips related to persons, locations and sightings remain under investigation.

http://www.websleuths.com/forums/showthread.php?t=191821&page=5

If he did take a 2nd poly, I think there would be yes or no questions related to Dylan's current location which maybe helpful instead of "did you have anything to do with...". I think that ship has sailed for LE. Apparently MR is not having anything to do with a 2nd poly that we are aware of.
