Can't sleep, so I just enlarged the pics from the Pine River Times, and I really recommend doing that. Once you blow them up you can see a lot more. I'd be interested in what others see in the pics.

- In the upper left pic, right in front of the coffer, on the beach, there's a small tree (or a large stump) and another stump. Then if you look at the bottom pic, the small tree looks gone. (ETA. I'm not sure now that's a tree. Bottom pic looks like the trunk is gone but not the top of the tree lol. I think what I saw as the "trunk" is actually a man standing there, and the black "treetop" is a piece of equipment. Maybe the pump to drain the water?

- For the depth of the water, if you look in the bottom pic at one of the 2 guys setting up the coffer, you can see the water looks to be just above his knees.

- The coffer surprised me at how small it is, and therefore how small the search area is. I don't know why I was expecting something bigger, but I was, so my surprise.

- There are lots of tree stumps along the beach. They look very small to me. If there are some in the water, they could have gotten in the the way of them setting up the coffer, so I think that may be the reason for the backhoe.

- I also swear I see monks in hooded robes sitting on tree stumps over by the trucks. lol

Is there a link to the photos?

Good suggestion in regard to the backhoe and needing stump removal to set up the coffer. That would make a little more sense vs. using the backhoe for a "searching dig".

I'd be pretty confident saying that after 70 years it would appear that the fill has perhaps washed away or gathered in sand bars and such over time - thus exposing the old tree stumps and brush. I would think if there are still decent size stumps at the shoreline then the ones in the remainder of the reservoir bottom must still be there as well.

I'm just glad LE is back out there searching the lake still.

All MOO! :cow:

I'm confused a bit about the backhoe in regard to searching for evidence. However, I don't think it's possible to get those stumps out "by hand". If these are the leftovers from the forest they clear-cut when making the damn those stumps would be HUGE, and go down very deep in regard to the root balls and such. I've got a couple gigantic tall pines in my backyard, and we had one of those wind shears go through and actually pulled the tree up a bit (it now leans to one side). It pulled up ground a full 10 ft. in diameter all around the tree. AND, it's STILL absolutely safe according to the tree guy, and public service (they checked due to the wires running along the alley).

I don't know why they would be digging in the shoreline under the stumps though - unless they thought something were perhaps buried there. Even so, how would anything buried be under the stumps and the root areas? I would expect anything to be tangled in the brush and stumps at the bottom, and not underneath it...

Interesting to speculate on why they chose this method of searching - especially the coffering and the backhoe. What did they expect to find that caused them to make the decision to order in the equipment they did?

One more question - were these "new" dog hits, or the same hits from over the winter? Was anyone able to verify which dogs and which hits they were talking about?
Maybe they hoped to find the elk mentioned previously.....you'd need a backhoe for that.

They had no new tips or discoveries; rather, they were checking an area where search dogs picked up a scent a few days ago, said Dan Bender spokesman for the Sheriff’s Office.

“We’re searching a specific area where we’ve had dog alerts,” Bender said. “With the snow gone and the ice gone, we’re able to search that area.”

But a slight rise in water level forced investigators to build a cofferdam around the area of interest. The dam was about 20 feet long and reached 10 feet into the water. The enclosure will be pumped today to allow investigators to better search the area.

A deputy planned to monitor the area overnight to make sure equipment was safe.

The cofferdam was constructed at the northeast edge of the reservoir

“We have had alerts by dogs numerous times from November up until now,” Bender said. “We have pursued all of those as detailed as we could, and none of them have proved positive.”

Since November, investigators have revisited the reservoir at least 15 times, he said. They have used search dogs, divers, boats equipped with sonar, helicopters and fixed-wing aircraft on multiple occasions.

It's possible you may not have interpreted this correctly. Bender does not say search dogs picked up a scent a few days ago. He just says “We’re searching a specific area where we’ve had dog alerts,” and “With the snow gone and the ice gone, we’re able to search that area.”

He is referring to an area where dogs alerted. That could have been the previous alerts, and they could not search there with the ice previously.

I didn't even try to interpret anything. If someone misinterpreted, it was the reporter who wrote it. My entire post was copy pasted from the news article.

I think the reporters definitely got something messed up in the way they reported this... You can't have a "new" hit from two days ago, and at the same time have no new tips or discoveries. A dog hitting on something two days ago, would definitely be classified as "new" wouldn't it?

Regardless, they are giving the dog hits a lot more credence than they led people to believe over the winter, that's for sure... I'm glad they're following up as conditions change.

All JMO in regard to the reporter being slightly misleading in his article. I hope perhaps there will be a written press release from the LPCSO regarding this most recent search.

I'm really HIGHLY emotional right now and I'm not sure why. Perhaps the last week has been trying newswise and every night we get more details of the horrors in West, Tx. And I've been following a slew of really gruesome cases on ws :( ,, not by choice mind you . But I just do NOT want them to find Dylan in that lake :( I so don't want it to be the case. I've been holding on to the miracle theory and .......

If you're Dylan's family please don't read the following and I'm sorry to ask it .
If he were found in the lake what types of COD could be evident. I'm thinking of several months in frozen water, does that preserve anything like drugging ? I'm thinking a gunshot or stabbing would be evident but any other type of trauma , like head traumas, would/ could be attributed to a fall and hitting his head. After this much time what could they find that definitively tells COD ? I'm sure some of you very seasoned ws'ers know the answer. My heart breaks asking :(

I know what you mean, Schmae, those pics just about unhinged me yesterday. I would imagine, depending on activity in the lake, stomach contents might still be discernible? Head traumas (assuming body intact) also evident so depending on which way and how, a good Medical Examiner might get info. Obvious violence, yes, something like strangling, perhaps not. Since i have made no secret about believing they will find Dylan in the lake, I have to hope that some form of justice can come of it so, as far as evidence is concerned, the sooner they find something, the better.

I'm guessing in this case the frigid/frozen water is a good thing as opposed to warm water which :( deteriorates things faster.

eta bbm ,please don't think I'm being cold by the use of the word ' things' . I cannot bring myself to say the other yet. I don't mean to belittle anyone........ I'm just in denial . :(

You and me, both. I visit Dylan's thread often, but I can never think of anything to say, apart from wishing and praying that he is brought home soon. I just do NOT want Dylan to be found deceased... I really want him to be safe somewhere, no matter how unlikely that possibility now seems. It just breaks my heart that this sweet boy hasn't been found yet, this has been one of the hardest cases I've followed.

Hugs to everyone. Keep up the good work, I'm so happy to see that so many are still here for Dylan.

And those are only the ones arrested. How many go undetected, and what kind of percentages would there be if those were included....

Its frightening to think how few are arrested. JMO:jail:

I visit Dylans thread often too, I think many of us do, but find that most often its best to say nothing.
