The following quote was part of the post Emma Ems just brought forward, originally posted by Bayou Mistress:

So, if the dogs only alert at the "strongest" source of the odor, why are they alerting all over the place on the reservoir. This suggests a couple of things to me. Someone (I think Emma) mentioned the reservoir being constructed on native american burial grounds possibly OR the source of the scent is from a number of sources OR the single source of the the odor is in pieces. If it's the later, then somewhere there is a messy crime scene.

Or, it could just be the result of decomposition of the body, and pieces of it now being carried to different parts of the reservoir and deposited.
The "light" scent being indicated by the dam could be from a smaller portion of a body as well.
I'm still interested in finding out about the flow of water into and out of the power plant. Is there a way for a body to reach the inflow of the power plant? If there is a chance a body could find it's way anywhere near those turbines... well, that's as far as I'm going to take that thought.
(I'm going to research a little more about that power plant a bit later tonight - it would affect the temperature of the water in that part of the lake and likely speed up decomp. even over the winter...)
Someone asked earlier why there would be such strong hits on the shoreline when they can't find anything there. There is always the possibility that a deceased person was lain on the sand in that spot - before being put into a boat, before being placed into the water, etc... If this was a large body of water I would suggest tidal activity, but that's obviously not a factor in this case.
I think the most likely cause of the hits on the Eastern shore is a combination of currents and wind dispersing the scent. Thus, why they keep getting hits in that section, but cannot find the source.
But, that is MOO! And other parts of this post are all speculation. :cow:
