I get that Dylan, even though being anxious to visit his friends, slept in. That is typical. However, why not call Dad when you wake up to see if he'll be home soon to give you a ride? Or call one of the friends to see if their parents can pick you up, or a brother/sister, or if you can meet between the two places? These are teens - communication is constant. But Dylan doesn't even make attempts?

If the nighttime contact was via text only (which I find likely), I don't think someone else would have any trouble writing a message in Dylan's style. You just need to look at the past texts to see it. Setting up a meeting for the next morning is a good alibi also (he was home at some point, and had plans, so somebody must have kidnapped him between, right?). Besides, I'm sure the conversation with mom and the friend were not all that complex. "I'm here :(" and "dads a ______ 2nite, how bout 6:30am ur house?" "ok 2marrow" is pretty much all you need.

Without any more info, there really seems to be nothing that has not been hashed out, over and back again. Now we know the habits of all of the teenagers belonging to posters, lol, and I know more about I -phones than I ever wished to know...but nothing more about Dylan, where he could be or what LE really thinks has happened to him.

All I can say is that I hope this is not another one of "those" cases; I tend to be bad luck, I fear, as the cases I have been following for the past two or so years remain in limbo.

Oh-My-Goodness!
I thought it was just me! :waitasec:

I was honestly starting to get paranoid about following ANY new cases because the ones I've been involved in drag on forever with NO END in sight

He would not have had to be abducted in the middle of the night, it could have been after Dad left that morning and it didn't have to be from inside the house.

For some reason, he had his backpack with him, so that leads me to think he started out somewhere, didn't get very far and something happened.

My response was about a theory of him being abducted in the middle of the night.

Not just you. Unless they find the missing person (in dead or live form) these cases go nowhere. Even the ones where they do have pretty strong suspects/persons of interest. Even some cases in which they find a body go nowhere.
It's so frustrating.

We do know that his cell phone was not used after 8 pm Sunday night. (For all we know he dropped it in the toilet after that.)

We do not know if there was a computer on the premises. If there was, we do not know if it had wi-fi, which would be needed for an iPod, iPad, iPhone or any other i product.

If there was a computer on the premises, MAYBE it was password protected and Dylan didn't have the password to email anyone on the old hardlined, cable internet.

.

I'm confused. Are you saying that one has to have wi-fi on their computer to be able to use an iPhone? If so, I am going to have to disagree. We have a computer, and my son has an iPhone, but the two are not connected. We have AT&T for our cell phone provider. Granted, he has to prop his phone in the window or go outside to use it, we don't have good signals in the house but it has nothing to do with our computer. We get internet service through WildBlue from a satellite dish. He can go on the net and check email and lots of stuff through his iPhone.

Agreed. Just because someone (mom OR dad) says something, doesn't make it factual. Until it comes out by LE or MSM that it is a fact (i.e. that Dylan stayed overnight and that he was definitely there in the morning before dad left, etc. etc.), I think it is wise to consider any other possibilities outside the box, specifically since there was no phone activity after 8:00 p.m. Sunday night. That's where I think the wheels need to begin spinning...from 8:00 p.m. Sunday night on... JMO

Exactly. Just also apply it in all directions, and not just the direction that supports your theory. Generally speaking, not speaking directly. It's not fact IMO until LE affirms it as fact. I think even some MSM reporters extrapolate in cases where they don't have much information. Share it as best they can gather, of course- no ill intent involved.

I agree that LE's first goal should be to prove or disprove Dylan's presence at the home. It only makes logical sense. I do think that was part of the big search at his house, and I think we should see the investigation sway one direction or another in the coming week or so.

Stresser for parent....recent move by parent. He will now have to pay child support when previously he did not because of joint custody. Non-custodial parent feels money will be used to buy luxuries and not used for child. Major financial stress.
Another stress could be jealousy. Both for circumstances and money.
Another stress, child is bonding with SO.
Another, child does not want to stay with one parent.

More than 3 stressors in one year can wreak havoc in one's psyche.
We are all capable of violence given the right stressors.

First post for me. Could not catch up.

True, caught that. However he would need satellite of some kind, 3G, 4G. And once again, up at my mom's in the mountains where she has zero cell phone reception, she also doesn't have satellite. I bought a hotspot specifically for up there to get satellite or some kind of means to email/get on my computer and I could not get a satellite signal. Zip, zilch, nada.

:waitasec: Sat phones are different than cell phones. Cell phone coverage would rely on towers. And Dad said he texted Dylan from the house, so there is some cell coverage at their house. If we're speculating that Dylan may have had an iPhone or had access to an iPad, one common carrier is AT&T. Per the AT&T Coverage Map here, showing zip 81122 for this area, the coverage in the area of the house is excellent.

I don't think we know what phones/carriers/other devices Dad or Dylan had.

Is it even possible to remove an iPhone battery?? There is nothing in the instructions about batteries. I don't see anything on mine such as an opening like I had with my older cell phones pre smart phones.

I just asked my son, he said they have batteries but you can't take them out.

I'm in my 30's! :floorlaugh:

My family just made the switch to cell from home phone pretty early in the game, I think.

I know there was a way to call information before cells, but for the life of me I can't remember it. I want to say they answered it "information" but I think we just dialed 0, not 411. By the time 411 is in my memory, it was on early cell phones that had no data or texting options and they answered "411 connect."

But as soon as internet became available on cable, I stopped using landlines. So my memory is sketchy. It's probably sketchy because of having a cell phone to my ear for too much of my life.

I have absolutely no problem with MR hiring a lawyer,I would have did that myself ASAP as soon as i became the target of the media and remarks from DR mom.I have seen nothing released that says he was abusive to his son or neglectful towards him.It is very possible in my mind that he did leave that house alone or possibly someone knew he was there alone either way, i still have seen nothing that makes me feel dad did something to him! that's all IMO.

You can take them out. It isn't as easy as with most other phones and it isn't recommended but it can be done. There are numerous step by step videos out there that are fairly easy to follow if you really want to do it. If you don't care about the phone working when you're done then it isn't very time consuming either.

OMG, I was going to say the same thing.:what: :waitasec:

I googled it, it's geographic. In the Pacific Northwest we had 113 on landlines! 411 became available later and I guess I just blanked on the period between when 411 came out and when I started using cells.

I believe LE is saying the phone has not even been turned on since 8pm Sunday night. He wouldn't be searching for service if it wasn't turned on. If there was no service in the area would they be able to tell if it had been turned on or not? I know they specifically said no pings since 8pm Sunday.

They wouldn't be able to tell, no. All they really know is that the cell phone hasn't pinged a tower, there's no way to know why. Phone could be broken, battery out of juice, or it could just be completely out of coverage range.

If it was on, the battery would almost certainly be dead by now though.

Or dropped in the toilet. On the Jake and Josh case, both their cell phones went out simultaneously when their vehicle hit the water and drowned them. What if he got up in the middle of the night to whiz and took it with him and dropped it in the pot??? Just trying to think of why there would be no cell or texts or phone calls.

My mom lives up in the mountains and cell service and satelite service sucks. Texts and calls are spotty, depending on the wind I guess and satellite with a hotspot didn't work at all. Now I'm stuck with a $60 a month hotspot payment for nuttin.

Was it ever confirmed what time Dylan's flight arrived? I saw a fam friend had said between 6-6:30. Did fam or LE confirm this in MSM?

But his phone has been completely off (either battery dead or removed) since Sunday at 8 PM, so why would he be outside looking for a cell signal? He wouldn't know if there was one with a dead cell phone.
If it had been turned off the night before because there was no/bad reception when they got to the mountain area, he could have just hurried to get ready to go and planned to text when he was on his way. Something could have happened to him first, he might have discovered the battery was dead, he could have dropped the phone and it wouldn't work, or something else could have kept him from turning it on.

Oh this is not always the case. Many perceive the hiring of an attorney as an admission of guilt, so I'm sure he was reluctant to do so-guilty or innocent. Already people's minds are turning just solely for the fact that he has hired an attorney. It should make no difference. IMO anyone with any common sense would hire an attorney in this situation no matter how innocent they are. It would be foolish not to. The attorney is there to make sure LE stays within the rights of the law and make sure their client does not do anything they shouldn't. Most people don't know all the legal ins and outs. That's why they hire attorneys.
It really infuriates me that people don't understand this. Hiring an attorney is not an admission of guilt and not hiring an attorney does not mean they're innocent.
I don't see anything wrong with him consulting an attorney, especially after reading all of the accusations from here alone. I know LE doesn't consider him a suspect, but it has to be rough knowing that so many other people do.

I can't remember for sure, but I think it was originally 411 (other than when you just used 0 for any kind of help). Eventually, it became 411 for local directory assistance and 1-(area code)555-1212 for long distance directory assistance. I have no idea what it is now, I haven't called for a number in years.
