I agree. Poor kid had defensive wounds.
Sometimes we are without words when it comes to child killers. Gannon was so precious. The jurors will despise her.

Hm. That's interesting. I wonder why.

Almost 2 years later and I still find myself trying to get into this woman's head on a regular basis. I know it's pointless but dang! How did/does she think she could ever get away with this crime?

IMO all you’d find is a barren and bleak landscape.

It would have been so easy for her to just pack her bags and go, LS. Killing Al's child wascertainly not going to win him back. If things were bad with him, what was the point in sticking around?

I guess in the deep dark recesses of her soul, she thought she was smarter than everyone else. She could punish both Al and Landon by taking their child away. JMO I don’t think she really liked either one all that much.

Maybe she like Al to begin with but he didn’t turn out to be her knight in shining armour. Now it looks like she will never pack her bags again because hopefully she stays put for a very long time.

Do you think she planned this? I'm still thinking that this was either a rage attack the night before that went too far or a rage attack that day (meaning he really was sick enough to not be in school), possibly prompted by Gannon threatening to tell his parents about prior abuse. I do think there was long-standing abuse (emotional/verbal, physical, or both).

I think you're right about her thinking she is smarter than others - evidenced by the Eguardo story and the stuffing of tissues at the police station and all the rentals. I wonder if she still thinks that.

JMO.

I think you are probably right @kittythehare.

Most who have posted have assumed LS's reluctance to attend the PH was because she didn't want to face AS & LH. Because we're presumably normal people, we can't conceive of doing what LS did. But if we had, we assume we'd feel shame and guilt and not want to face the child's parents. But LS's thoughts and feelings aren't normal.

It's perfectly possible her reluctance to attend the PH might have nothing at all to do with GS's family. Perhaps LS is very worried about COVID. We don't know anything about possible underlying health conditions she might have. Perhaps being kept segregated in the jail (segregated because of her escape attempt and because of mental health concerns) has led her develop a kind of agoraphobia. Along with not wanting to appear in court in person, that could lead her to not want to be away from her cell to appear virtually either. Or perhaps she just doesn't want to appear in court (even virtually) in jailhouse garb and restraints. When the trial rolls around she'll appear in street clothes without visible restraints.

So who knows. I'm also not so sure GS's parents felt "gypped" she didn't appear. Fortunately I've never had a family member murdered. But I imagine if I were the parents of a murdered child, I'd feel enough emotional upheaval having to listen to what was done to my child without having to know the one who did it was present and might be secretly feeling justified in what she'd done. I know I'd be dealing with guilt feelings for not protecting my child. And so I'd probably be secretly relieved if the defendant wasn't present early on as I'd know it was going to be a very long haul. I'd feel I would have to attend all court proceedings but I'd be doing that on behalf of my deceased child to give him voice NOT to derive any satisfaction for myself by facing the defendant. So I just don't know that LS's absence was a big disappointment for AS & LH and I don't know if their presence is what kept LS away from court.
JMO

I agree. It is my belief that not going to court was another opportunity to show everyone she is in control. She fancied herself as the savior of the family and had control by “winning” AS and setting the narrative of what she has done for everyone.
In an environment where she has little control, IMO her tactics are to display control where she can.
It will be interesting to see if she will continue trying to exert control over the courts or not.
I know there are people who push the limits and get away with it because the rest of us are just gobsmacked by the behavior. AMHO

I'm guessing either it was moved, or (crosses fingers) this is a sign that the judge dismissed it and determined she is sane and fit for trial.

If it's the latter it seems odd someone would not have reported on it; but maybe there's been no filing as of yet.

@squareandrabbet - no just checked nothing has been filed regarding the mental issue. And the minutes for the last hearing makes no mention of it.

I recall that the defense was not raising the question of mental competency-- affecting the trial schedule but something relative to her mental state after GS disappeared (i.e., after she allegedly committed the crime). Judge asked that motions be filed so he could evaluate before making a decision. Seems the court made a decision that does not require another hearing previously reserved for Dec 9??. JMO

Sydnee Stelle@SydneeStelle

Both sides are going to file motions related to a mental health evaluation and the judge is going to decide what to do after those motions are filed. They just scheduled another hearing for December 9th at 1:30 PM to address the motions.

12:50 PM · Nov 4, 2021

Judge Werner is now saying he’s never seen the mental health issue raised quite this way before and it brings up some “complicated legal issues”.

12:48 PM · Nov 4, 2021

#LeteciaStauch’s attorney just revealed she will be pleading not guilty to all charges, but also told the judge they plant to enter “evidence of her mental condition after Gannon’s disappearance”.

12:34 PM · Nov 4, 2021

Her attorney, Josh Tolini, said they aren’t planning to plead not guilty by reason of insanity, but they do want to enter evidence of testimony by a mental health expert.

What does that mean -“evidence of her mental condition after Gannon’s disappearance”.

As this communication was happening during the court hearing, I'd say it means during the period after GS allegedly murdered Gannon. I think the defense is referring to LS's attempt to escape jail.

It could be referring to the escape attempt, but more likely it has to do with her ability to be able to comprehend the process to assist in her defense. Specifying that it is after his disappearance means they are not using that as a defense to the act itself.

Letecia Stauch pleads not guilty in death of stepson Gannon; trial expected to start in March 2022

In listening to DA Allen's presser again, I think it is likely that this motion related to the defense's intent to raise a mental defense for one (or more charges) will be heard on 12/9. I think it's possible that this motion was sealed and therefore does not appear on the public docket.

Also, DA Allen confirms that LS attempted escape charges go to trial but will trail the homicide case.

But the 12/9 court date was taken off the court site. Do you think they (attorneys & Judge) will still have it because of the sealed motion?

IMO, it was only removed from the public court site but I think the Judge wants to hear the motion in person because it's very unusual.

I think it's likely both sides came to an agreement, and that's why it was taken off. I never saw the motion on the docket, so I don't know exactly what it was, but that is the typical reason for something coming off the docket.
