I wonder why LE confiscated the white Jetta which is the daughters car but not the SM's car. Or did they take SM's car?
They may have confiscated both, but it sounds like from SM that there was an aversion to turning over the keys to the Jetta.

And if a kid wanted to know if a cell could be tracked, why add the part about 'could my parents track my phone?' That doesn't sound like the way they would google it. I think they would just google 'can my cell be tracked?'

I think adding the words 'my parents' makes it seem like someone 'staging' the scene.
Yes! Could vs can. Good thought!

Unfortunately we don't know what really happened, with the hand cuffing, but I don't think the choice has to be made between possibly wrecking a young woman's military career vs finding a missing boy. It just kind of bothers me, from the viewpoint of a 17 year old who has done it all right so far, if she was indiscriminately handcuffed in public, maybe just because her mother was mouthing off (if she was). How would it get LE any closer to finding the boy by treating a young woman that way. (Admittedly just guessing here, that she would not have caused a melee with the police to hide some keys, which SM says weren't in daughters bag anyway. So you're right, but I don't think there had to be a choice between finding the boy and humiliating a young female military cadet. Maybe she did freak out, scream, and make them cuff her in public. But I doubt it. The cuffing may have been in response to disliking the SM, which I hope it wasn't.

I understand what you are saying. But it was the mother who brought up her minor daughters military service. IMO the only reason she did that was to garner another angel of sympathy. There are 4 military bases in the Springs area, so it is heavily populated with USAF/ARMY. The only reason I can think for her to throw that out there unprompted is to try to play the whole military service angle that so many people do when they find themselves in trouble (I have personally seen this way too many times to count). If it was my minor daughter, I wouldn't be giving ANY details at all about her, especially pulling her on camera and revealing her service. IMO the SM did it for selfish reasons for herself.

MOO

Just thinking...

Did Dad leave Sunday?
Did he tell Gannon he'd text/call when he got there?
Was SM unable to get Gannon for call and was told he was down street, no phone.
He calls around, no Gannon...neighbor puts alert on subdividion's FB.

Puts Dad last to see him. SM not helping.

911 is called made by Dad and here they are :( No Gannon days later. That's a tight timeline for Sunday.

And then there's Monday...

Sheriff's Office actively looking for 11-year-old Gannon Stauch, missing over 48 hours - KRDO
I just went through the media thread and can only find reference to the phone being left at home .... I know the stepmom did an interview which I have yet to watch - did she bring it up? It will be a week tomorrow and I only feel dread for this little boy
JMO
I don't remember her bringing it up at all but if she reported that he did the search when she initially spoke to LE that would explain why he was reported as a runaway.

Imo

Here’s the hiking photo that was used for the early missing poster.
Thanks, @osu !

ETA : If it's a flyer made by a local source the wording might mean nothing.
So if LE confirm the phone search it can be left alone for now. Imo.

LE have been remarkably tight-lipped.
I sensed no hope at all in the LE's presser's tone. :(

Hope I will be eating crow and he's being hidden by someone and cared for.
And will be restored safely to his parents.

Also eta : But imo there's a lot going on behind the scenes.
They aren't looking for an alive boy.
Sorry for being negative.

We don't even know if any of this really happened. I mean, considering the source...

So was your brother ever missing for more than 48 hrs.?

Kids are experts at playing one parent against another, and even moreso if they have a step parent when the original is still alive and in the picture.

I have been wondering if Gannon was chastized for something by the SM, thought something along the lines of "You're not MY MOMMY", and then called BD. Did he have contact numbers for BM? I guess the police know by now who he called, if anyone. I can just see an 11 year old stomping out of the house to go find his Dad, maybe hitch hiking with a teary face, and then being exploited by the one person he fatefully accepted a ride from. Why does this sound so logical to me? Because I used this over and over with my own broken family. Calling Dad to avoid step mother discipline. Driving a wedge between them to save myself. As did my step brothers from the opposite POV. One of them repeatedly running away at about 12, being brought back by friendly police.

Here's the poster in question:

Not sure how official this poster is, though.

Appears to be rather slapdash to me…not terribly professional-looking.

Also note the use of quotation marks around reference to him staying home from school due to being "sick."

I don't think LE would use quotation marks like that in an official MP Poster.
Yes, I didn’t like from the minute I saw it. moo - online group coordinator with a local search team posted in a local newspaper. I think?

I haven't yet seen anything in the MSM to indicate when dad left, or any kind of conversation between him and Gannon.

I keep harping on this, I know but all 11 year olds are not a homogeneous group. They are all individuals with individual skills and talents.
It's more about his unique skills and gifts than it is about his age (sadly that information has not been made available to us)
May children undergo scout training and learn basic survival skills. In the absence of confirmation of his membership of such trainings we can look at it as a possibility reasonable, I think . He MAY have outdoor skills to enable him to survive.
Boy Scouts of America - Wikipedia
True, but it's more of his family insisting that running away would be out of character for him.

They don't describe him as adventurous or a boy scout, rather that he likes to play video games, he is quiet and he never goes anywhere without somebody else.

His parents would know him best and from the way they describe him it doesn't sound like he would go off on his own and hide for so long in a self made shelter all alone.

Imo

Playing devil’s advocate, maybe she kept him home “sick” but more of a “I don’t want to fight him to go to school” or mental health day? That would explain why he was well enough to go play in the afternoon; he wasn’t actually sick.

I do find this a bit hard to believe given LS’s prior occupation as a teacher. I would think she might be more apt to have him go to school anyway unless he was truly sick. MOO

Step brother. No, about 6-8 hours before the police always tracked him down. I think he usually ended up in the vestibule or rooms behind the altar. Of the Catholic Church where he was altar boy.

That came from an aunt, not his parents.
His S M described him as liking video games, His neighbor described him as enjoying basketball and playing in their yard every day..
We have no real description of his skills, talents or hobbies.
