Sorry if I missed this already being posted up, but one of Dr. Lewis' peers have written about her film and her methods in Psychology Today (in 2020) and not in very flattering terms:
The Disappointing False Dichotomies Behind 'Crazy, Not Insane'
I found the review pretty informative and telling. In fact there is a portion of the review that sounded uncannily familiar -
It would seem that Dr. Lewis' approach and 'findings' are little changed from her work in the 60's and 70's. She seems to be one of those people who has a pet theory or diagnosis she wants to mold all her patients into fitting, rather than just analyzing the data and then forming an opinion. That's dangerous and IMO unscientific. Yes, you do have to have a working hypothesis, but you need to adjust or discard that when the data doesn't support it. Dr. Lewis, instead, twists herself into knots, making the strangest assertions in order to avoid having to admit error in her reasoning. To the point of sheer absurdity. Like her complete inability to acknowledge that a person like Letecia might fabricate a bold verifiable lie in order to get out of going to work. Or that a patient might lie in their self-reporting of their childhood experiences. Or might be a cunning enough manipulator to pretend to be concerned about a missing stepson to LE while stashing his body in a storage room close by.
Her testimony on the stand seemed simplistic, vague, full of buzz words and with little actual evidence or substance to back it up. There was a chicken & egg quality to it.
She's a smart girl, not stupid, so if she did something stupid, she wasn't in her right mind. Say what?
If she was violent it was only because others were violent to her years ago, plus she married some really bad men, not because she hated her situation, hated Al not giving her attention, hated Landen, hated Gannon and his issues.
She had no material benefit to lie and pretend to be mentally ill. Say WHAT??!!
Dr Lewis' attempt to add a last minute "some relative I didn't mention in my report who I can't even name right now did mention she wanted to be called Maria one time as a child" stunt and then later the repeat Hail Mary with the missing differing signatures suddenly turning up was so blatant, it now makes me wonder just how much of her obtuse, rambling, disordered, selective memory (when it suits her) geriatric act is genuine and how much of it is a simply an exploitative ruse to skip past protocols, push her own agenda, and dare others to call the poor disabled old lady on her BS. She brings up how the neurological test would have helped bolster her opinion, what a pity, oh no, she didn't get them. All the State's fault, right? Bullies! They are so vital, but they also don't matter because I can still give a final opinion/diagnosis anyway. My conclusion still stands. BUT WAIT! This is only a preliminary report and I am still evaluating her and still want to do the brain scans later. I'm not finished yet. But take my conclusion as definitive anyway, because only I can pick up on the nuances and subtle signs of full blown psychosis and distinct alters presenting.
Sorry, this turned into a rant. I just am...well, very perturbed by all of Dr. Lewis' antics over the past few days. I can't even begin to imagine what people who are actually experts in the fields C
