So obviously I am not a lawyer. Can anyone explain how it works if alternates are NOT released but remain under jury admonitions? Are the alternates sent home to be called back if needed or are they able to observe deliberations but not participate?
Since the alternates were sent to a different room than the 12 jurors deliberating, I don't believe Judge Werner will allow the alternates here to observe or participate. However, I believe Colorado allows alternates to participate if all sides agree. In this case, I think they are just on call to replace a deliberating juror if necessary.

An alternate juror who does not replace a principal juror shall not be discharged until the jury renders its verdict or until such time as determined by the court.

If the court and the parties agree, alternate jurors may deliberate and participate fully with the principal jurors in considering and returning a verdict.

If one or two alternate jurors are called each side is entitled to one peremptory challenge in addition to those otherwise allowed. The additional peremptory challenge may be exercised as to any prospective juror.

Thank you @Seattle1 :)
So I take it that if one juror needs to be excused the replacement (alternate) juror would need time to go over deliberations that have already taken place. Sigh.......

If you are correct, then yes they are doing it the way you hope.

i remain frustrated and do not believe they are all in agreement.

And why is there a need to review evidence? She admitted her guilt.

She stabbed him 18 times.
She shot a gun at him three times and one bullet hit him in the neck.
She tried to poison him with an opioid.
She beat him with a blunt object.
She burnt his body.
And she dumped his little body in Florida.

Regardless of how long the jury takes, the evidence all says guilty and you don’t need hours to figure that out.
Keep the Faith!

The Jury is not struggling with IF she did all that IMO.

LS and her lawyers and her expert witness never said she didn’t commit murder, they admit it.

The question is Was She Sane when did it.

Did the judge not tell them to take any vote when they first went back? If this is true I think that the jurors are discussing evidence and testimony and exhibits. I am not at all worried that they are hung up. I think they are being thorough.
If I understand you correctly, you are stating the judge highly suggested they not take a vote right away because then that may lock a juror into a position they find difficult to reverse. I agree that maybe they have talked through scenarios of whether LS is NGRI and why, or reasons why she is not NGRI and support for that. which would all take time.

The jury started deliberations Friday afternoon in the trial against Letecia Stauch, who is accused of killing her 11-year-old stepson, Gannon…

I realize that. So where’s the difficulty in determining that?
Sane and guilty
