How Borderline is LS? She thinks that she can "choose" her prison. Entitlement much?! I do think that this could have been a "DP" case. But does Colorado even do that? Wasn't that a tool used by the prosecution to get a confession by Chris Watts?

Colorado abolished the Death Penalty in March 2020.
Any crime before July 1,2020 would still be eligible.
DA Allen chose not to pursue it in this case however.
I think he made the right choice.

Wrongful death. Just as Matt Hutchins did in the Rust shooting. Just as happens in other cases.

You really think that if the court ordered Letecia's name to be Letecia _______ (her choice or her birth certificate day) that it wouldn't happen? The court orders name changes on records quite frequently, IME.

It would be unusual, but it could happen. Some attorney would do it pro bono, I'd think. And if it were brought before this Judge, and LS failed to respond (which I predict is what would happen as she has no insurance and no funds to hire an attorney), then it would get done, IMO
It's typically the wife that requests of the Court for her maiden name restored, not the husband, but this can't be forced on either party.

Change my name after divorce?

No. Both spouses are entitled to keep their married names after divorce. If you took your spouse's name, you may wish to reclaim your “maiden name,” after divorce, but your spouse cannot force you to do this.

Respectfully, a wrongful death claim has specific rules that govern such claims as does the (Colorado) petition to change one's name.

The Court can't just "Order" a defendant's name changed against their will!

With the exception of a minor child, I find no rule where the husband can act as a petitioner for his former spouse or vice-versa.

In the case of divorce, a name change cannot be forced on either spouse.

ETA: Also, LS has now been convicted as L Stauch making her name change more difficult pursuant to Colorado law.

If AS wants to continue to engage in legal battles with LS he certainly could sue LS for wrongful death and I'm sure he could prevail. But I'm not understanding how a name change could be forced upon her as a result.

Except for adoptions, the vast majority of name changes approved through judicial processes are requested by the person whose name is being changed. I can't think of any situations where an unwanted name change could be forced upon an adult. I guess it MIGHT have been possible to have had the marriage annulled. And if the marriage never happened....but I don't think even that's possible after a legal divorce. And LS has been convicted under the name Stauch.

And I would add, why give Letecia any more power? I’m sure it would make her happy to know the name Stauch bothers Al so why feed into it? Heck, odds are the prison guards are going to mispronounce it anyway, just like her own attorneys, lol.

I say lock her up and forget about her, she’s not worth a minute longer of anyone’s time. MOO

Was Harley in the courtroom today? I missed part of Al’s statement. Did he mention her?

He did mention her, I don't believe she was there though

That’s a good point. I half-seriously suggested upthread that Al change his own name. But that would leave LS sharing a name with the late Gannon. I like your thoughts much better here.

I'm just laughing at her 2 lawyers..
they must be in complete ribbons...
no way could they have emerged from that unscathed..

So glad this is over for Al and Landon.
Let them focus on their healing knowing justice has been served.

They have been so dignified, restrained, eloquent and loving in their public dealings.
How we behave in our weakest moments shows our true character.

we know they are not perfect, their dirty laundry has been aired for all to see...
just shows.....you don't have to be perfect to be a good person.

If the world was full of Al and Landons the world would be a better place.

Bless them moving forward,
we know Gannon will never be left behind for either of them. xx

seeing one of them gag while in close looking at a monitor with T and pull away and put hand sanitiser under his nose was the stand out moment for me :p

She stinks on the outside too

I feel for them. Someone has to put on a defense, even for T. It is a seriously stressful job (to defend people one knows are guilty).

They are certainly scathed, but I can't laugh at that. They did their best, I think. It was hard for them to believe in or even to just believe their client. A nightmare.

I hope they get some R and R. We have to have good defense lawyers, throughout our system.

IMO.

AS did mention HH during victim impact statement. He hopes they can salvage their relationship. According to RA assistant who was in court, HH was not in court.

I have to say when Al said about changing his name I thought yes! good idea...take that T!

But on reflection it does leave Gannon symbolically linked to LS all alone.

But at the end of the day Al's gotta do what he needs to do.
