EL PASO COUNTY, Colo. (KDVR) — Three years after an 11-year-old Colorado boy’s murder, a jury found his stepmother, Letecia Stauch, guilty on all counts.

A judge sentenced her to life without parole. FOX31 sat down one on one with Gannon Stauch’s biological mother, Landon Bullard, just hours after the verdict.

Bullard invited FOX31 into her El Paso County home. After three years, five long weeks of testimony and an agonizing weekend of waiting for this verdict, Monday was unlike any feeling she said she’s ever been through.

Bullard recalled some of the most difficult parts of the trial, including at one point when Letecia Stauch “imitates his last breath. That really got to me. I think that was a huge jab and it just shows you how evil a person can be,” Bullard said.

Over three years after 11-year-old Gannon Stauch was murdered in his Lorson Ranch home, Al Stauch and Landen Bullard say their son has justice.

“About three years ago, we were set up in a similar room giving you, giving us, the worst news that was imaginable: The news that our son was no longer alive. Now, I stand here today with some of the happiest news that we have waited three years for, is that he has finally received justice,” Bullard said.

Gannon’s stepmother, Letecia Stauch, will spend the rest of her life in prison for killing her stepson per a penalty handed down Monday by Judge Gregory Werner. A 12-member jury found Letecia Stauch guilty of two first-degree murder charges, tampering with a body and tampering with evidence.

You really think that if the court ordered Letecia's name to be Letecia _______ (her choice or her birth certificate day) that it wouldn't happen? The court orders name changes on records quite frequently, IME.

It would be unusual, but it could happen. Some attorney would do it pro bono, I'd think. And if it were brought before this Judge, and LS failed to respond (which I predict is what would happen as she has no insurance and no funds to hire an attorney), then it would get done, IMO

Pursuant to Colorado's Wrongful Death Act, 13-21-201 et. seq, there is no provision under the Damages that are available in Colorado wrongful death cases that include Ordering a name change or forcing a petition by a defendant. Colorado divides cases into two categories: wrongful death and survival actions and the actual Damages available are very specific.

Given LS and AS were married legally, she's broken no law keeping her married name after the divorce where neither spouse can be forced or Ordered to revert to their name before marriage.

Other than name changes of minor children, I'm not familiar with the "frequent cases" of Ordered name changes OP speaks of pursuant to Article 15 - Change of Name, C.R.S. §13-15-101.

IMO, at best, I think AS might be able to file a tort claim citing LS's use of his surname results in intentional infliction of emotional distress--resulting in a Civil Court awarding him damages for emotional distress but it's still not going to result in a Court Order for LS to change her name against her will. JMO

might not be updated but I reckon they zapped her straight into high security.. last night would have been a flashpoint potentially, good chance she'd go full Exorcist.
She now effectively no longer exists.

I'm inclined to believe LS was not immediately transferred to DWCF since the decision to dismiss her escape attempt pending case wasn't announced until sentencing, and this info does not appear updated yet at EPCJ system.

(I also registered for notification of LS custody status change).

Her defense team probably spent a few minutes after sentencing to explain they will file her notice for the auto appeal and turn her over to new, appellate case attorneys.

ETA: And who would want to be stuck transporting LS to Denver late on Monday afternoon in traffic heading Northbound?
