Wait - How did I previously miss her ethnicity? Is she really American Indian, and will she attempt to use that as a protected class in prison? But what do I know.. I also thought she was Christian, yet she also asks for kosher food. Maybe it’s for medical reasons. She’s so confusing.

I think she and her folks are Lumbee from Robeson County in North Carolina.

Do we know if this has been verified? Can it be verified? Only because she seems to be the type to make claims that are self serving. I can see her claiming this to make herself feel "special" or "different". I would not be surprised at all if it wasn't true. Not that it matters...

How? My understanding of the ICRA is that it 1) provided access to the Bill of Rights for American Indians (the same rights LS would have had as a non-Indian) and 2) allowed the federal government (limited) ability to intervene in tribal courts if those rights were violated. I honestly don't see the relevance to LS's situation but maybe I'm missing something. Has the ICRA been used in other post-conviction appeals?

I don't doubt she is Lumbee though. This is not the first time the issue has been raised. She is from Robeson Co, NC as well. I'm pretty sure (IMO, no link) she was identified that way in her very early criminal records at age 17-18. At any rate, it's not a new "claim."

It is due to relatives employed in the State Dept of Corrections that this screen is a "sight for sore eyes". And how clever of DA Michael Allen's to withdrawal the pending charge that would only delay LS's welcome to her forever home. And by LS's expression, it's good to know that she was blindsided by his action.

Justice will be served!

previously she was listed as white. There has been some discussion that she is Lumbee (NC Indian tribe)
