I was wondering this too.

Three years ago we had a thread to discuss JH and mental illness: http://www.websleuths.com/forums/showthread.php?180649-Armchair-Psych-Profile-and-Treatment One of the things I remember someone asking was about effect of living in an apartment with those fumes of gasoline and whether that could have had an impact on his mental state. I think they testified that he had used air fresheners to mask the smell. I wonder how long those carpets were saturated.

Also, how do you guys find this Trial Discussion Thread? Before, the movie theater shooting page used to be linked to the main Websleuths page under Trials in the News, with all the related discussions. Now, I can't seem to find this Trial one without googling and scrolling through threads 1, 2, and 3....There's probably an easier way. I'd bookmark but my bookmarks are so long....

I thought the point of the air freshener was to mask the smell of the gas so people wouldn't smell it and be put off entering the apartment.

I wonder if they included this receipt in order to show he was buying totally "normal" stuff...in between all of his weapons of mass destruction (my term)??

Or do they just have to include everything that was in fact found in that bag?

He used the same cc at target that he did for all the mass murder items. The 7-up bottles were used in the apt. booby trap. So, again he hid the purchases for the ‘plan’. Even tho it would look like ‘normal’ stuff if he used the joint card with parents, he used the other card.

I was curious about that...but I didn't hear a quantity mentioned - though it may have been, because I am also reading reports from this am about the train crash.

Ugh! My internet is so slow today!! This laptop is going to end up getting thrown out of the window!

Does anyone know what would happen if a juror got sick. Say with a stomach bug. Would they be able to go home and return at a later date? Or does the trial stop?

Ooooh judge is reminding all counsel that they must stand whenever they address the court! I agree!

  • #890
OOHHH...did Judge Samour just chastise some of the lawyers?

Based on my ruling, you must stand when you address the court!

Since I have seen the PT almost always do this, I have to think this was directed at the DT, which I see often doesn't. But I could be wrong.

Here’s what I’m having a problem with- if he was willing to plead guilty to LWOP, he knew he was guilty & willing to stay in prison for his crime, so, he knew he did wrong. Not insane by legal reason. If the state accepted this, it would be done. There would be no debate over insanity. It would be over.
Since the state rejected the plea, he had to come up with a defense. So, then they decided not guilty by reason of insanity for trial. That was the only defense they could try. Now, saying he has a mental illness is not the same as ‘insane’ to the legal court.
IMO, based that he wanted to plea to avoid a DP, he is not legally insane. This was his only option for trial.

I just turned on my livestream and caught the tail end of the Judge saying something about "standing when addressing the court." Did anyone catch what was that about?

Jury coming in #theatershooting

Yes....the defense team hardly ever stands....

I believe if it is more than say a few hours (and not even sure that long), they would be dismissed. Like the juror with the broken tooth. They had an early 30 minute extended lunch. Then they quit 30 minutes early another day for the same issue.

But I don't think they are stopping this trial for anything! Which is why they have 12 alternates.

That is why they have twelve alternates :moo: longer than a dental appt...they would be off jury if days sickness

I fully agree. Sadly, the jury will never know that. Since I am just a lay person and have no law education...I can say I disagree with that! LOL! I am sure there is a very good reason for it, but I think they should know, dangit!
