Is that the earliest order we have heard of?

ETA - no, it is not! May 10 is first purchase.

Something I read earlier brought up this question, and haven't seen discussed...though I am certainly not saying it wasn't.

What WAS his plan after all of this? He planned everything for so long, down to the last detail. He clearly planned on living.

He didn't have clothes packed in his car - yet conceivably, his apartment was blown to smithereens!

He clearly planned on getting away...but to where? He didn't have that much cash on him - $280 in wallet.

Does anyone know? Did he just want to prolong the inevitable...and by wearing body armor etc. wanted to stay alive long enough to kill as many as possible...knowing he would be caught and go to jail at some point, no matter what?

I wonder if he had stashed supplies etc at another location.

OK, after reading the Motion to Suppress that Shelly posted...and fully accepting I don't understand legal jargon very well.

But it says that it was an illegal search of his apartment, his car and wallet. That it was without a warrant.

I thought I understood at some point since this started that no warrant was necessary to enter either of those places because the "threat to the public" overrode the need to wait for a warrant.

Is anyone willing or able to explain why or why not this is correct?

This is a good question and thanks for asking these type of thought provoking questions.

This is my understanding from learning about another case. This is how I have always thought it works.

For like a vehicle if you get pulled over, then if LE sees or smells something illegal with their own eyes or you act real suspicous like they see you make a quick move to hide something, then they can search your vehicle without your permission and without a warrant because they have a valid reason to suspect something illegal themselves.

For this case, if LE determines ANYONE life is at risk they can just enter premises or vehicles without a warrant. To either save someone from harm or to take action to prevent harm to others.

So like in this case they knew he threw smoke bombs and had weapons so they could validly want to check his car or apartment for any bombs or even other people that he may have planned the attack with. Or they could even claim they are checking to make sure he didnt have any victims in the car or his house. All valid reasons.

In some cases if there was not an immediate threat then LE will sometimes get a warrant first even if they know they dont necessarily need one. They like to be sure it holds up in court so they do prefer to get warrant when there is no rush.

I think any searches they did in this case were all justified even without a warrant.

Thank you for that explanation. And of course, we know that almost immediately after he was apprehended, he told LEO that his apartment was booby trapped. So that gives them even more reason I guess to not need a warrant!

Defence just kills me..LOL As IF removing evidence that's been in front of them (Jury) isn't captured in their mind's eye..Yet continues to try and deflect

OK...the discussion on TDC just answered a question I posted earlier.

His first purchase was the gas mask, Clear Out and body armor, on May 10, 2012.

It wasn't until June 7th that he failed his oral exam. He bought his AR-15 the same day. And then in continues from there...

So, which came first - the chicken or the egg type situation? Did he fall into a psychosis in late April or early May, and come up with this diabolical plan?

Or did he plan this diabolical situation, and stopped focusing on his school work, that ended up with his failing and ultimately withdrawing?

Y'all may have known this already - and most likely did, because it has been laid out for a long time. I guess I never paid as much attention to the dates...and they make much more sense now that we have gotten to this point in the trial.

I just find it very interesting that he started making purchases, which means the plans were made before that, a month before he actually failed his classes and withdrew from the program!

@larryryckman Guess his allowance for that week didn't allow him to buy most expensive ones. #theatershooting

Yep..likely that never ending refill hadn't yet got deposited and cleared by his bank..LOL

Shooter ordered handcuffs and road stars the day before oral exams. Then flunked exams 6/7. #theatershooting @ABC @CUNewsCorps

Interesting observation...and yes..willing to bet he got himself all excited and overloaded with his actually putting into action his "Grand Plan"..so his thought priorities just couldn't get it out of his head in order to produce in class!!
