Jury given 10 minutes to review the notebook printouts before they are taken away from them.

10 minutes is NOT enough time!!!

JH wrote in his notebook that he tried to commit suicide when he was younger. He explained it away as a papercut.

RIGHT???? He objected against it...and is now doing it himself!!!!!!!
They objected to the witness reading it for the prosecution, however, apparently the defense is allowed to read it to the witness. I’ve heard this referred to as the “defense testifying”. Strange, no objections. -

Oh boy. I hope there is not some serious courtroom error that comes back to allow any kind of mistrial.

But, of course. It was part of his job to object to the notebook's admission. And, because the judge allowed it into evidence despite defense's objections, it is part of the lawyer's job to take advantage of the passages that will benefit the defense. This is how a trial works.

I'm really surprised too. I bet the defence would have objected to the prosecution reading it aloud.

OK...that makes sense. But then couldn't the prosecution have just read it instead of the witness??

Probably not...would have had jack in the box objections! LOL!!!!!!

Notebook reference refers to suicide attempt as kid, then..."Decided to dedicate life to killing others so I could live." #TheaterShooting

Everything I got from the notebook was he is a PSYCHOPATH...but not insane.

His "research mental illness" really blows anything else out of the water.

I wonder if there will be a forensic analysis of this. Different pens used, showing written at different times, etc.

The defence are trying to confuse the jurors by reading parts that seem muddled or not making much sense.

Not confuse the jurors, but sway them to consider the insanity defense.

To me, it seems that he was 'copying' on what he researched about mental illness. You know, go to a website, it lists symptoms, he writes them down & then puts things about how they might apply to him!

There is a great deal of excellent lawyering in this trial.
Example:
Some people enjoy watching a football game between two high-ranking NFL teams, not necessarily to side with one team but to enjoy the strategy and efforts of exceptional players.

The lawyers in this case are like players on two very, very good teams. We can find excellence in the strategy of both sides.
