I had a feeling that defense asked for it. That's why I posted back with the doc's experience, esp. as a expert, I was very surprised that he gave his opinion instead of an answer to a question the prosecutor asked.

If he is found not guilty due to insanity, he will likely be institutionalized for the rest of his life.
If he is found guilty, there is still sentencing. The prosecutors have said publicly that they will seek the death penalty if he is found to be guilty. That definitely does not guarantee he will get the death penalty.
