Where was this story about the dogs tracking the backpack back and forth? I've heard it on here a few times but never saw it anywhere else?

"Officials believe the girl -- who is described as blonde, blue-eyed, 4 feet 10 inches tall and 80 pounds -- may have changed clothes.

"We are asking people to not focus on the clothes," Materasso said. "Really focus on Jessica, focus on her facial features. If you see a flier, take a good look at it."

"Police say it’s likely her clothes may have changed since she disappeared."

I take all those articles to mean that if Jessica's abductor was taking her out in public, her clothes would have been changed and probably her hair as well.

I don't see anything in those articles that indicates LE thinks that Jessica changed her clothes voluntarily on her way to school.

I think the son would remember which day it was. It was the first day it snowed. That's why Jessica called him to see if he was still walking.

My son is a dip, and he could make a mistake like confusing what day was what.

Just got in from work and rushed online to check news....

Still no answer about the body that was discovered?

But, if he walked to school with J everyday I would think he would remember if he walked to school with her that day, the day she went missing, the day it snowed.....

[Respectfully snipped for focus]

I see you've had a number of responses already and reported this to authorities, but the part I bolded is what really set off my hinky meter: no legitimate surveyer would make such an offer, for the simple financial reason that his/her employer would have huge liability issues should some harm befall the child under the surveyer's watch.

And what municipality these days has the money to spend for the astronomical liability insurance that would be needed in case some harm befell the child while being watched by the employee?

Particularly for the sake of a survey that could easily be publicized with flyers in the parks that directed interested participants to a survey website, in a mid- to upper-class place like Westminster where most of the populace could reasonably be assumed to have a computer and internet access?

All rhetorical questions, not directed at you.

But no matter how I slice it, I cannot see that this encounter could have been innocent.

it screams danger will robinson to me too.

I can't see them having surveys done in a park, did the woman show any official identification?

IMO if a municipality wanted surveys done they would

1. send surveys through the mail to residents
2. put up flyers directing to a website
3. have a staffed stand in a shopping mall

they would never offer to watch your child, theres way too much liability

I'd be contacting the municipality and asking if they are conducting surveys of people in parks.

IMO your awareness of your daughters whereabouts and the people around her stopped an attempted abduction.

I would think LE would be smarter than this, but if they asked, "Did you and Jessica walk to school this morning?" he could easily get confused and think about the day before, especially if this was their routine.

However, if LE said, "Tell me how you got to school this morning.", then I think he would have had better recall.

And that just further confuses me. (Mom call to verify that they are going to walk together and then they don't but son says they did? But it's the day before?)

I wonder if Jessica called but didn't actually spoke to the son, but spoke to Dad instead. He said yes we are walking but tells son that she isn't coming so I will drive you. Drops son off and makes it back to the park in time to meet Jessica and says "you were late so I drove him, want me to give you a lift"... And then who knows what happened after that. Maybe the son is confused, or has a few different "stories" floating around in his head.

In the poster's original account, she did say that the woman identified herself as a local college student doing a survey for a class project.

do you have a MSM link for this?

The other possibility is that they waited for her, he decided to take his son to school bc J was running late. He saw one of the neighbors at the park and said hey if J shows up, til her we went on without her and to go home and get a lift from her Mom. The neighbor in the park may have had the perfect opportunity. J, your friend's father said I should drive you to school bc ur late and they had to leave without you. Follow me back to my house, come on in for a second and stay warm while I get my keys.....

I will bet $1,000 the father of J's walking friend is not involved in her abduction.

Beside the timing of events logically dictating that he could not have been involved, he would have to be an absolute moron if he were.

MHOO, but one I'm willing to bet on...

Former FBI profiler Clint Van Zandt says the condition of the body, which was described by Westminster police spokesman Trevor Materasso as "not intact," indicates an experienced killer.

"And if it is such a person who would do such a grisly act, it is someone who is fully capable of doing this again. And not withstanding investigators are racing against the clock to try to find the offender, before he or she might strike again," Van Zandt said.

Could Jessica have been abducted by someone who lives in one of the houses she walked past on her way to the park? That would explain no witnesses. I know LE has been all over the area, but the perp had a head start and could have left the immediate area mid-morning when the traffic was lighter.

The FBI profiler information is textbook - look for someone acting differently, etc.

I have a strong feeling that the perp will be found very soon. Kudos to the excellent police work. I wish all the missing people had such dedication from their LE agencies.

If the perp turns out to be a RSO, then it's time for some serious action. Too many stranger abductions by RSOs... something has to be done... keep them locked up for life, at least, before one more child is injured or murdered. JMHO.

I seem to recall a sighting of Jessica near the Rec centre at about 830am. Is that right? walking south.

What was she doing there when she should have been at the park to meet J?

And while I'm pondering..... we don't know for sure that J's dad said J was walking that day. Jessica made the call, and Jessica told her mother J was meeting her as usual. What if Jessica wasn't truthful, because, being independant, she wanted to walk on her own but knew her Mother wouldn't allow it.
This could kinda explain why she was at the rec centre and not the park at 830am. No need to be at the park if there is nobody to meet. If indeed that sighting is reliable.

And I will throw in another $1,000 for the bet! I agree with you. If evidence points elsewhere, then the bet is off.

I believe that was an unreliable citing.

No, no MSM link. It is just something I wonder about (as I said). It think it could be one of a billion different scenarios.

I have a 9 year old girl, I don't often worry about harm from strangers because she is a pretty savvy (and mouthy) girl, I DO worry a lot about her being harmed by people she trusts though. Teaching them about stranger danger is easy, teaching them to be cautious of people that they encounter almost daily is much harder.

I don't have a 10 year old boy yet, but I do have 5 and 7 year old boys and I know they would be concerned if a friend said they would do one thing and didnt turn up. They would both make me find out what was going on and they would certainly be worried enough to remember it happening that day.
