Thanks a lot. Is this verified fact of the way things happened, or your impression? I ask because the Mom specifically said that Jessica called to ask her friend if he was WALKING (which doesn't translate to me that his dad was DRIVING him to the park). If Dad was driving, then I'd have thought he would have told Jessica he could pick her up with his son at the park and drive her on to school. I haven't read anything that said the Dad was driving his son to the park to meet Jessica, so can you please tell me where you found this? Thank you.
Wow! I was JUST talking to my husband about this being my one nagging "confusion" since hearing the original call information. I know people here seem to be confident that the father somehow "fit into" that morning's routine and ended up driving his son despite the original plan. But why do police keep saying over and over that Jessica had planned on meeting "a regular group of friends" in a very specific park(three block distance)? As far as I have heard- the police have completely dropped that detail (about meeting boy first) from the description of where Jessica was right before she dissapeared. I also wondered why how the father would know to drive his son- maybe the little boy was told by his father that he was only allowed to walk if Jessica was with him, and the little boy went home after realizing she hadn't shown up- but wouldn't be the type of chaos that a ten year-old would remember? (at least by the same afternoon)? Just sharing my thoughts...I must be missing some info, I'm glad I'm not alone:).

In the poster's original account, she did say that the woman identified herself as a local college student doing a survey for a class project.

an older aged college student wasn't it?

should be checked with the college

Former FBI profiler Clint Van Zandt says the condition of the body, which was described by Westminster police spokesman Trevor Materasso as "not intact," indicates an experienced killer.

Just curious does anyone know of cases of child abductions where the victim's body is damaged like this? I can think of some where the victim was an adult.

Is something wrong with me? If I had my child in the car and was meeting their friend to take them to school and they didn't show up, I would drive to the child's house to find out what was happening?
Especially if
1-it was a regular occurrence
2-there was a phone conversation within the last 30 min saying ok I'll meet you there...
especially since her home was that close to the meeting place.

Is that just me or would anyone else do it too?

of course I'm the one who sat on a bench after a baseball game with a kid whose parents never came, after an hour we called police (small town) Dad was home drunk.

No way, I would too. All of my school age children would insist on it. My husband would too, he is hyper vigilant about things like this and would have definitely made a call or driven by the house if a child didn't turn up as arranged. I would be furious if another parent had noticed my child wasn't where they were supposed to be and didn't at least attempt to make sure they were ok.

Thanks MLO

This was apparently very out of character for the child. I thought it might just be a woman/mother instinct that would drive me but glad to hear your husband would too.

Regarding the "morning confusion", I will admit that I too have mixed up my days and could not recall one morning from the other. I could certainly understand how a young boy might do the same. And it was father himself that corrected the boy's account (offering information that he did not have to). I am more bothered by what I missed in the details- just wondering out loud- I am not suggesting anything sinister by the boy or his family.

WESTMINSTER, Colo. — There was increased activity at the Westminster police Department Thursday night. Investigators and agents rushed to their cars, gathered gear and drove-off.

“From the helicopter you have footage of the body which would show the public that it’s not intact. This is extending the length of time it’s taking for the investigation to positively identify who that body is,” said Trevor Materasso with the Westminster police dept.

Law enforcement sources tell FOX31 Denver’s Justin Joseph that the body is that of a young female. Because of the condition of the body they can’t say for certain if a sexual assault occurred, but sources say Wednesday, state and federal probation officers were asked to interview their clients with deviant sexual backgrounds in connection with the Ridgeway abduction.

As I recall there was a case a few years ago in Florida where the little girl ran ahead bc she has an argument with her walking mates. Turned out one of the guys who lived in a house along the route somehow lured her to the house. As I recall it was a very troubled man in their 20s.

This person is obviously a sick person and the apparent depravity of the attack makes me think it is someone that fantasizes about this for some time. It is probably a similar demographic profile as the man who kidnapped the girl on Florida or the monster who killed Amanda DuBois in California. Although it is odd that there was no follow up call apparently when jessica did not meet her friend, I really don't think it means anything. No one would be that stupid. Also I could see the boy being traumatized and not recalling exactly what went on that day.

Just off the top of my head:

Jori Lirette - 7 years old with Special Needs - decapitated and dismembered by his "father."

Leiby Kletzky - 8 years old abducted off the street walking to school , drugged and dismembered.

No, there is nothing wrong with you! That point struck me as well as i personally would have looked and alerted took the child into the school to alert the school. At the same time though I think people are lured into a false sense of security, rushing to work, etc, and do not necessarily think to take such precautions. Further, for all we know, maybe there was a phone call or some alert made. I am not sure what time the school called and i don't think we know if the call from school came based on normal attendance procedure or perhaps earlier out of concern

Holly Jones. If I remember this one correctly, he plead guilty and told them to lock him up because he had no idea why he really did it.

Weird case (BBM):

Michael Briere was a software programmer with no criminal record when he watched child 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬 one drizzly evening in May 2003 - and within minutes, he'd snatched a 10-year-old girl from the street and then sexually assaulted, strangled and dismembered her in a crime he described as "cruel, inhuman and nightmarish."

Briere, 36, pleaded guilty Thursday to first-degree murder in the sex slaying of Holly Jones.

His plea came a year after DNA evidence from a soda-pop can he tossed into a streetside recycling bin almost a month after Holly's abduction linked him to the murder of the cheerful schoolgirl who lived just blocks from his home.

The Montreal native wept in court as he apologized for acting out on what was described as his "dark secret" - his fantasy to have sex with a child. Holly's mother, Maria Jones, bowed her head and sobbed through most of his remarks.

I never thought it could get worse than Zahra Baker till today.

I believe that was an unreliable citing.

In the scanner rewind, posted by sarx, LE mentioned that they found her Unicorn Pillow Pet near the Rec Centre. So I am guessing that the citing was accurate.

I'll never forget Zahara. She lived with cruelty, evil and severe physical abuse for at least 6 mos if not longer before she was killed. To me that was torture.

ARVADA, Colo.-There is still no positive identification of the body found only miles from where missing 10-year old Jessica Ridgeway lived, but police have announced a major news conference scheduled for Friday.

Denver media outlets report that investigators have been treating the discovery, as if it is the body of Jessica Ridgeway. Though, in two very brief news conferences Thursday, Westminster Police would not provide many other details.

The body was found about seven miles from the little girl's home in Westminster.

It is still not clear how the body was found. Investigators said it was not intact", which has extended the time it normally takes to positively identify who the body is.
