I don't really know the right way to put this:

This is the worst kind of nightmare for Jessica's parents, but at least they have an answer as horrible as it is. At least they are not going to spend-possibly the rest of their lives-looking for her, not knowing where she is.

I know they want her alive and well and would give anything to turn back time. The anguish and hell they are going through causes a pit in my stomach for them.

It is beyond horrible and life-altering, but also,in my view, better if she is found, the sooner the better. The ones who are never found-how do they cope with anything at all?

Yeah about being safe at schools, I had posted this on another thread a while back. I live in Germany, where granted, it's not like a utopia but the kids definitely roam more and have more freedom. A six year old taking the train alone is not so uncommon although I would never allow it.

I went one time to pick up my 4 year old from the preschool and.....she's not there. My heart racing, sick to my stomach, my daughter and her little friend had managed to convince the teachers that their mom's said it was okay that they leave alone and walk home to the little girl's house - about a mile away, crossing busy streets. I knew where to find her, and lo and behold they were there, but the fact the school let them go. I mean, really. It's different over here somehow, but I still worry.

Zuckerschnecke, my little part of the US is not so different from where you live by what you've said.

Children in the little towns in my area can be seen roaming freely without an adult in sight. Many children still walk to and from school without adult supervision. When I had my dog training business, I had students who were children who would come to class on their own.

There was a period last summer after the two cousins in Evansdale, Elizabeth Collins and Lyric Cook, disappeared that it seemed like all the children had evaporated from my area. The only time a child was seen, the child was closely attended by an adult.

In the last month or so, though, things are getting back to normal. I live about 90 miles from Evansdale, so it isn't quite so immediate here.

The 5 or 6 year old who lives across the road from me walks to his bus stop alone, about 1/5th of a mile (0.32 kilometres). He is the only child at that stop but it is in such an out of the way area, I don't think he's in any danger at all. You have to take a gravel road to get to our gravel road, so we're really out in the boonies, as they say here. There is no way to get to our house that doesn't involve a minimum of 2.5 miles on gravel roads (4.02 kilometres).

What about the cell towers?I have been babbling about them for days, but had not seen anything, lol...

I am surprised that there are actually three different towers to triangulate.

IE Backpack, body and home locations. These places are so close to each other I would have thought one tower to be sufficient?

I guess in this area they do not have to say, Can you hear me now?

So the guy who posted on the listserv about the backpack, said it was not there at 6:45 PM when they left their home. But was there, when they returned between midnight and 1:00 AM (Sunday morning). So I guess the remains found at Pattridge could have been on that hillside for four days.

I think the backpack was first discovered at 1 AM early Saturday morning, and that its discovery was made public on Sunday, Oct 7, at 1 in the afternoon.

LOL, Clu....you beat me to the punch! I am so sleep deprived trying to following this case. I must have missed the info about cell towers...

To me, that's just like telling the killer, we've got you! If any cell phone registered at all three towers, they will be investigating the owner of that phone. I like that, LE...

I know, right. I agree, as horrible as it is, finding her is better than not knowing anything at all for months or years. I know they want her back though.

This has just consumed me for the last week. I haven't cleaned house and have been doing nothing but sitting at the computer looking for updates. I can only imagine what those poor parents are going through and will go through for the rest of their lives.

I hope they can get help from a counselor.

I have been asking about this for days, if there is any way to see if the same phone hit on towers in all 3 areas, even though it might be a tedious, time-consuming task, especially not knowing (presumably) when the body was left, the backpack left, etc...but it would be worth doing, if they have little else.

Anyone else thinking the MAJOR press conference they are having this afternoon may be that they have a person in custody? A lot of vague but interesting busy-ness was going overnight in the scanner I think... i for one am very hopeful.

I hope so!!!!!, but I think they are just going to confirm it is Jessica that was found.

Caught the last of end of the report. But GMA said that LE is analyzing cell phone towers in the three key locations of this case. I gather that they are looking for an unknown cell number pinging at all three locations?

When I find the report online I will post asap.

Does this all seem like an "instant replay" to you? The same things are being said as in the Evansdale disappearance. FBI has distributed the same list of "what to watch for", the same small town is asked to consider which of their neighbors must be responsible, the people in those small towns are being told that someone saw something ... it doesn't seem possible to me that all of a sudden two men that lived in two different small towns 800 miles apart grabbed one or two girls and made them disappear, and then returned to their lives in those same small towns.

I am betting this could be done through computers, don't you? A computer could sort numbers that hit all three towers during a certain time frame and could do it quickly.
I never thought of it, but that's a great thought, Clu.

You know, I go away for a couple hours to do chores or run to the store....then I come back home and rush to the computer and read into the late night. And still, I miss so much good information.

I'm so heartbroken for Jessica's Mom. I watched my neighbor torture herself for years after something similar happened to her son. She spent the rest of her life beating herself up, blaming herself for her son's death and thinking she should have done something differently that day. I hope Sarah doesn't do that to herself. The reprobate that took her daughter is to blame...no one else. :furious:

http://abcnews.go.com/US/jessica-ri...-behavioral-profile-suspect/story?id=17460629

Investigators are now focusing on cellphone towers near Jessica's Westminster, Colo., home, where her backpack was found and where the remains were discovered in Arvada, Colo. If a phone number registers at all three towers, it could lead to a suspect.

Police haven't officially tied the crime scene at the Pattridge Park open space to the missing girl. But investigators have reasons to believe it is the body of the girl who vanished Friday on her walk to school, stressing that a positive identification will take time, according to three sources.

IMO the population size has to be the reason

3rd highest USA 314 million (only behind china and india in poulation)

16th highest Germany 81 million

22nd highest UK 62 million

52nd highest Australia 22 million

List of countries by population - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I don't think that's necessarily the reason. Per capita the US has a much higher murder rate than other industrialized countries. I don't know how it compares per capita for child abduction though.

I live in a city of about 100,000. Our city includes all kinds of crime. Yet even here kids do go out and about in their neighborhoods. Usually in groups, sometimes in pairs, but sometimes alone. In some ways being in a busy place might be safer, because there are always a lot of people around watching what's going on.

For instance, once someone drove by in front of our house and hit the side mirror of my car and broke it off. But the person driving behind him took his license plate number and reported it to the police! In a populous place you are never sure who might be watching or videoing, even.

Why do I get the feeling that LE has in mind who did this crime? I really feel like that have someone narrowed down, despite what else they may indicate.
Maybe I'm wrong and just wishful thinking. But this LE has been so extremely dogged in their search for Jessica. I have to think they are just as, if not more, determined to bring in her killer and bring him to justice.
After all the cases where I have been disgusted with the actions of LE (like the Holly Bobo case), this one makes me smile. How beautifully they have honored Jessica with their tireless work. This is LE at its best...

I can think of a few missing child cases where I wish the PD had been even half as thorough as the Westminster PD has been.

Unfortunately, not all PD's have the funds and/or manpower for such a comprehensive search and investigation. But I think every PD should copy them when it comes to communication. I feel the Westminster PD has done an exemplary job in keeping the public up-to-date via pressers, FB and Twitter. JMO
