Dotson, 41, could face up to 24 years in prison if convicted of the solicitation-to-commit murder charge. He is awaiting sentencing and faces 31 years to life in prison for conviction on the sexual assault charges that he had tried to avoid by allegedly trying to have the victim killed.

The Denver Post reported in 2007 that Dotson was the last person in his family to see his sister, Nonnie Dotson, who went missing during a pre-Thanksgiving visit with him in 2006. Left behind by her disappearance was her 16-month-old daughter.
The brother was featured in newspaper reports for putting up fliers seeking information about the disappearance of his sister. Her case eventually moved from a missing person report to a homicide investigation, and her disappearance remains unsolved.
