Remember, there would be no visible evidence if 22 cal. frangibles are being used.. A firearm being used in the MI shootings was not determined until Lab results from forensic evidence from one of the vehicles was consistent with a firearm.

This is exactly why imo every vehicle in the area involved in the shattering incidents needs to be thooooroughly examined by forensics, particularly the FBI Task Force who might know what to look for (microscopic residue, etc)....this is what is really bothering me, that, as I already mentioned, I'm not sure that a thorough enough forensic investigation is being conducted on these vehicles...It seems the "task force" is not even responding to some of these incidents if the local LE does not fill out the required paperwork, or says its road debris, etc.

Kind of like what do you put in a toaster (the answer is bread, not toast), and if a plane crashes where do you bury the survivors? (You don't bury the survivors...). wow, this whole time I was reading it as the driver...I think I even mentioned "single perp" in my book above heehee..no woooonder FHG said it reminded her of that other incident, lol :biggrin: . We had all thought it had stopped after the last June window shattering. I have a hunch that these shootings as of late are copycats.
This hypothesis is primarily due to the seemingly lack of urgency by the NOCO Shooter Task Force.. Guess, time will tell and hope no one else is seriously injured or killed in the meantime..

Robert Jacobs, by all accounts a consummate rider somehow drove off the road fatally. Then his motorcycle eas found in the river and pulled out. It had a white stain on the back seat you could see in the close up. I know it's a stretch, but it didn't make sense to me, the accident and I always remember that little white stain. Sorry, off topic. Then there was the compact red car the had a shattered window too, where you could see a white stain on the drivers window and what looked like white paint in the broken glass on the back seat.

Same here, thought the same until Foxfire pointed it out. It is confusing as a driver vs a passenger. It's been going on for a while now, and more information seems to be reinforcing some and not other possibilities. The debris issue is moot, it seems to me, it's not all debris, even when classified as such from the way things look. Whether it's copy cats or the same and cycle of re-escalation, you're right, Foxfire, time may tell.

FindHG, we have done so much research on the various types of frangibles and the many different brands which all have different disintegration characteristics. Some leave virtually no trace, some a brown powdery substance, while others leave a white powder residue and a small copper pellet after breaking up, similar to a BB.

Whether related or not, the Erie shooter is very brazen and seemed to be attempting to cause the victim to wreck.. When a windshield shatters, the visibility of the driver is negligible.. One can only imagine the possible tragic consequences..

So, ftr, fwiw, this latest incident in erie has the pranky, young punky, joyridey video gamey feel I originally had, especially now that I hear about 2 people in the car. It doesn't seem to me they were being too conspicuous in this incident, contrary to a patient shooter,sniper. Jmo

Here's the incident in Erie, as a yellow circle. I am so far behind that I'm starting to wish LE would go back to keeping these shattering incidents on the QT. I'm sure that others of you have already noted it, but this latest incident doesn't sound like our stealthy window pinger. Might the author be the more brazen dufus who pinged a few windows and a cyclist in Aurora in June? He was never caught, and this latest incident skews to the south of the true NOCO case area.

The red markers are the ones that seem typical of what I imagine to be the NOCO shooter's work. The pink ones are from the Jefferson Co. series from 2013 (we only have specific location for 4 of the 11 incidents in that cluster). The two maroon circles are the Aurora pellet gun attacks (one circle for three shatterings in one block, and one for the attack against the cyclist).

No, I have been trying to identify cases like that, but hadn't seen that one. Thanks for pointing it out. I've been trying to establish what's 'normal' for on road shootings and shatterings, and have been summarizing "clusters" of two or more that have occurred since 2013. I've put them on a layer of our case map. (It's the last layer in the list on the left of the screen, labeled "Hwy. Shootings Cluster Summary". The layer is normally turned off. Turn it "on" with a click). I've added your report to it at the bottom of the list (the order is chronological by start date). It's the pink star in MI.

The NOCO series is the longest and largest by far, with more than 31 incidents. The Mohammed Whitaker case, that Foxfire mentioned in a post below, comes in second with up to 20 separate shootings. Two unsolved series are tied for third place - one in Jefferson County, CO from 2013 and another from the Rochester area of NY in 2014 with about 10. I've been able to identify 24 groupings of two or more, but am sure I've missed some smaller ones.

It's hard to generalize about them. Some are mysterious and long running, while some are one day rampages that usually end in a death or arrest. In general, fortunately, they result in few injuries and only rarely in fatalities. It's just hard to hit a person in a moving vehicle.

When I first met fhg and told her I hope she sticks around bc I know she will do great things here, I had no idea this could possibly apply to her husband as well, lol. Yes, I noted upstream that I also think this seems contrary to our patient shooter, but I also mentioned a few reasons why I find this latest incident particularly troubling and interesting.

I do think this incident is related to something, what all I am not sure, unless it's a new string of a copycat. What really bothers me is the location, elaborated upon upstream.

All these incidents are overwhelming. I think what I need to do is print out the spreadsheet and do a comparative analysis that way, easier to read than on the screen.

hmm... how odd. So (sorry, kinda out there), manifesting anger and hate on highways is a thing in these cases. It seems a way to express grievances and/or capacity.

Whomever is responsible for the two murders, which were off the highway, aimed for vulnerable exposed soft targets. Could they have switched tactics to kill, after their first attempt failed with Cory? She was just about to drive onto I 25, IIRC. Up to now, there has been no indication of a message. Whomever put the symbol there on the road may have wanted to see it there themselves, get some secret thrill perhaps from seeing their handiwork. If for any reason it is related, the whole hiding in plain sight aspect of the symbol resonates with nature of the shatterings and shootings. It's a marking, maybe territorial mindset too. That's something you do for or with groups. Pranks are something you do in groups too.

Police say one car was shot at, and several other cars possibly hit by a sniper lurking along I-94 between I-69 and Battle Creek.

Other possible hits happened on I-69 south to the Indiana border.

Calhoun County Sheriff Matthew Saxton tells 7 Action News, people in Metro Drive who have driven through that area from the end of July through last week may have also been hit and did not know it.
