Correct me if I'm mistaken, but the witness said they saw Sebastian at the playground. They didn't say he was the only person at the playground - perhaps there was another adult in the area and they assumed it was Sebastian's caretaker? That would explain the witness not calling 911.

Could have been an adult there is right, that's why I said upthread, was this an abduction of opportunity ?

There are numerous ones. Flip locks for instance can be installed higher up. Which I use. They can't reach it and won't open the door unless they are flipped open. It is also useful for preventing a door to be forced open from the outside..

In an apartment, you are not allowed to install things like that without permission. Since it's a door, the management may not allow it. If they did allow it, they probably would keep part of the deposit to cover the cost to return the door to its original condition. It may only be a few screws. But apartment managers can be very picky. I was charged for all kinds of petty stuff once. They charged me for not dusting off a ceiling fan.

It's possible that the witness saw the child and assumed that an adult was there, too. It doesn't sound like the witness walked over and stood next the to kid and looked around for an adult. Someone just looked toward the playground and saw a kid.

UPDATE 7:00 am, 6/11/20: Sebastian Rodriguez Castro Search

River operations continued yesterday, with Vail Mountain Rescue Group, Greater Eagle Fire Protection District, and Eagle River Fire Protection District searching the shorelines and islands. The night of Sebastian’s disappearance, river flows were in the neighborhood of 2000 cubic feet per second (cfs); yesterday flows had reduced to 1700 cfs, and the water had cleared significantly, allowing drone operations to provide some very successful video footage and preparations for river missions. Additional dogs were used to search the thick vegetation, downed trees, and other debris along the shoreline.

In addition to water operations, Eagle Police Chief Joey Staufer, Greater Eagle Fire Protection District Chief Doug Cupp and a representative from the FBI met with the family yesterday to answer questions regarding the investigation and search efforts. Family concerns regarding a number of rumors were discussed and inaccurate information that had made its way to the family was corrected.

The public information team has met with multiple members of the media over the past week, including local newspaper and radio stations, as well as Front Range television stations and the Univision Spanish television network (local and national). Flyers will also be posted at put in/take out spots along the river. Anyone who has information that may help in the search for Sebastian is asked to call the non-emergency number for Vail Public Safety Communications Center: (970) 479-2201.

We read stories here all the time about children, especially who have autism, doing what it takes to escape a home. He may typically fall asleep later than 9:00 pm. It sounds late, but I know families where this is normal. Then they just don't wake up early. I'm feel so badly for his mommy who must be just desperate to find out what happened to him.

So many young people listed as missing under the age of 25; it is mind boggling. Particularly heartbreaking when you read about a helpless, defenceless child gone missing. Where are you Sebastion ? Mommy wants you to come home. Amen.

It is so concerning to me how close those apartments are to that water and what a steep drop off it is with no fencing. Yikes :/ I wonder if he did tragically go in the water if the apartment complex will change that.

I'm sure LE know how the child got out of the apartment. His mom probably knows what she was doing around 9 PM and how it would have been possible for him to get out on his own. I wonder if the apartment complex has laundry and if so, where is it located? Perhaps she took him with her to do laundry so he wouldn't be left unsupervised if the apartment; the laundry room would probably not have a locked door, and he could have wandered outside while she was busy putting things in the washer. It would just take a second. This is all supposition, but just giving one scenario of how he may have escaped at that hour.

I am leaning toward a tragic accident of him wandering outside to the playground for a moment and then very sadly falling in the water. A part of me does wonder about an opportunistic abduction - I feel that is more unlikely but I guess in that case, there is a chance he'd still be alive. Someone would have had to just happen to be at that playground at the precise right time which I feel is definitely possible but maybe not probable. MOO.

There are several options to child proof door handles in rentals, we would go over those options with the potential renters when we found out there would be children in the unit. I remember one hung a wind chime with a thumbtack over the door. Little ones can manage to get out so quickly!

It does only take a moment for a young child to disappear. He might have heard the water and gravitated towards it not knowing how dangerous it could be as many children have

Glad to hear you are helpful and go over options with prospective tenants. Some landlords rent as is with no extras or options. Young parents might not know there are child safety devices for doors.

UPDATE 7:30pm, 6/11/20: Sebastian Rodriguez Castro Search

Last night 10 VMRG searchers, plus two members of the US Raft Team spent 3 hours wading, swimming, probing and searching in and along the river beginning 20 yards upriver from where the cell phone was found, down to the Eby Creek bridge. Teams were able to walk out about 1/3 of the river width with swimmers in the middle of the river checking rocks and eddies. We also utilized a kayaker and dog team for another land search. The search was repeated again today, with no new clues were found.

Beginning tomorrow, information updates will only be released once per day, unless there are significant developments in the search.

Whatever became of the first reports that said he may be in need of medical attention? Was the reason for this ever explained?
My first reaction to it was that there had been a trail of blood or other sign of injury found at the scene.

I believe it's because he's autistic and non-verbal that he may need immediate medical attention. IMO

I’m in the car and it’s hard to type. This link has info on how Sebastian got out. Still confusing though. Search continues for 3-year-old Eagle boy missing for a week
The boy’s father, Manuel Rodriguez, told KDVR’s news partners at Univision last Friday Rivas returned home after playing at the park with his mother. He said that at one point, the mom mistakenly thought Rodriguez was watching the boy. Three minutes passed and then Rivas was gone.

Rodriguez thinks he may have walked out onto the balcony and jumped off. It was unclear as of Thursday night what floor of their apartment building Rivas and Rodriguez live on.

I know they found his cell phone and an article of clothing. Is it normal for a child thought to have fallen into a river to not be found a week later ? I am really unfamiliar with this type of scenario. With all the SAR etc. looking for him along with the use of drones, I am surprised that he hasn't been spotted. Where are you Sebastion, so many are trying to help you get home ?
