Where was it reported that his family encouraged him to cooperate with LE? I am open minded, but he was allowed to speak privately with the Dad and afterwards came out with the part about being in a "rage" etc. Of course we don't know what the "partial confession" consisted of, do you? I'm waiting to see how long the meeting with the father was, and was it recorded. I don't give any of them a pass now on helping or not helping him form a story. 4 people were murdered.

Just to make myself 100% clear, when I suggested earlier that SW might have named the unborn child "Nico" after Nicole, I was referring to her very close friend Nicole Utoft, who was the last person to see SW alive and who called the police and met them at the Watts' home on Monday, the 13th.

I have not discussed any other people who might share that name, whether named in the affidavit or otherwise.

I haven't thought of that, but it could certainly be the case. It might also be part of the reason Nicole the Friend was so concerned about SW - they really do seem to have a close bond. We don't know if the name Nico in honor of Nicole, but I like the idea.

I wonder if an ME could tell if a child had been strangled vs smothered?

Yes, they can tell a difference. They'll examine broken capillaries, bruising, etc. If a person dies from smothering, lividity will show a certain discoloration around the nose or mouth. In strangulation, there will be some type of bruising around the neck.

Source: my child had to be sent to the state ME for these to be ruled out. The coroner went over the info with us in detail.

I read the arresting document which did not say the things I said it did not say. That's why I asked you, since you were the one who made the claims.

I wonder how soon she knew her plane would be delayed? I am sure she let him know as soon as she found out was it a three hour delay?

If things had worked out how he planned, I,wonder what the plan was? Report her missing when he came home from work?

I cannot imagine anyone ever dreaming about a plan like his with the oil tanks.

We don’t know if there are cameras there, but why not.

Would police ever have thought about those tanks as an option? I doubt if they would have asked the company for video.
If the plame had not been late, he would have gotten away with it. But if they had cadaver dogs at the house, he would have explaining to do, but what could LE find?

Actually, the point of the exchange was that the original poster wasn't necessarily discounting Nico. You don't have to agree, but I'm absolutely allowed to respond to that post, within TOS. I'm not sure why the hostility and name calling feels so necessary.

Hitler for example did not think there was anything evil in his program and strategies. NONE of his policies towards Jews, Slavs, blacks etc changed. To the end he firmly believed he was right minded and that the German people themselves failed him. Yes, the master race he believed in so much that he was willing to murder millions of people because they WEREN'T German, he turned against. He stated that if the German people lose the war then they deserve to become extinct and lamented and further added "all the good ones were dead anyway" meaning the best of the best of his Nazi SS etc. This was in response to Albert Speer's attempt to get Hilter to stop his order for total destruction of Germany when the Russians were already on the outskirts of Berlin. Same minds set, he knew HE was not going to live (he killed himself) and in his mind the remaing German's, soldiers included, were not worthy of life therefore blow up the buildings, the factories, the farms etc. It was his flat earth policy during the last month of his life.

Narcissism is an evil disorder because one values only himself and the rest of humanity be damned. That is why they can be so dangerous. This man got into office BECAUSE people believed he loved the German people so much and would protect them and make their lives better. He had no loyalty to them but it took a WW and the death of millions for the German's to see they were duped by a crazy man. So if you apply the logic of the majority of German people at that time (population was 80 million) is there any doubt that someone like CW was capable of fooling a handful of people including his own wife. Until they drop their mask and you can see the face of evil behind it, they can be your every day, average Joe Schmoe which is more then likely what Shannan believed for most of her marriage. I DO believe she saw signs that he was not right I just don't think she truly understood just how night right he was. Clearly that is the case because she would have booked long before in order to protect her girls

Ironically in both the case of Hitler and CW they both dropped their mask at the end. In Hitler's case when he realized he was trapped due to his own actions (locked in the bunker with no way out) and with CW he very well may have felt trapped as well and in his irrationale mind believed the only way out for him was to annihilate his family just as Hitler ordered for the German society left standing. Let them die it was of no consequence to either of them. I often wonder if it was almost a relief to them. To stop pretending to be something they are not and let the mask drop where one is free to be themselves. God forbid you happen to be caught up in their crosshairs when the mask is dropped.

Chelly, with respect---CW didn't confess to a murder. Go back and look at the affidavit. (I'm not in the fan club, just making the point.)

I feel like they would have checked those oil tanks just because the spouse automatically has to be cleared in suspicious cases where their family members go missing, and checking out his place of employment would have been on the top of their list.

Rereading the Arrest Affidavit, it is remarkable how little information it contains about probable cause of Chris' guilt. The first one-and-three-quarters page were pretty boilerplate, discussing the original call and the first steps in the investigation. Then at the very bottom of page two and continuing for two more short paragraphs on page three, we get CW's version of the facts, but very little information stating why they believe his version to be false.

Interestingly, CW corroborated what the police already knew when he confirmed the areas where he had disposed of the bodies. Corroboration is important because it helps prevent false confessions. That is why the police never give out all the details about a crime scene. If a suspect knows details that have not been released to the public, then it proves they have personal knowledge, and haven't just read about the crime in the news.

I just reread it right before coming back here and finding your post, and you’re right, it does skimp on evidence. It was written Aug 16, the day after the arrest. I assume because C.W. confessed to Shanann ‘s murder that gave them enough to arrest him, and enabled them to skimp on evidence in the report. One part that stood out to me is all the detail concerning Shanann’s cell phone. They took possession of her phone shortly after they arrived the day she was reported missing, and with CW’s consent took it with them to the police station. I’m hoping this means that evidence they plan to use against CW is on that phone. If it’s true that Shanann knew the marriage was in trouble and they were headed for a separation, you would think there would be plenty of emails and texts about it on her phone. They were apart for 5 weeks, plus the weekend she was in Arizona. Her state of mind, her feelings about their marriage, him, their future, her level of pain and anguish, all of that would be there.

I'm as old as the hills, have been on message boards since Michael Jackson, and my radar goes off when someone is sending me on a rabbit chase. Oh, keep looking, lol. If you can't quote your own data, your own account, let's just let it be. And yes, IMO there's a chance that Dad helped design the story.
